I wonder if anyone outside of posters on whatever the wrestling subforums are called nowadays was aware of who :bahgawd: was, haha.

BYOB was a lot of fun but it did get a little bit petty at times. Around the time we had rotating moderators chosen from regular posters was when it started to get a bit frustrating for the admins, I suspect. Either the selected posters would be assholes once becoming moderators, or those that didn't become moderators would whinge about it. Still there was around 12 months there where it was a very enjoyable subforum, and very profitable for Lowtax.

I wish it was still possible to view old BYOB threads with an archives account though. I think only the BYOB Goldmine survived, and I'm not even sure if that is still around.

Byob Goldmine is forumid 176.
Byob proper (well, XP) is forumid 208 and archives works fine with it.

You're right; the first year and a half of the original BYOB are not under that forumid. I don't know the correct forumid offhand (I feel like someone posted a list of the known forumid's semi-recently, but couldn't find it when I searched). I checked 1-300, so it's probably not still accessible.

I'm the person that bought :psyboom: so I can tell its backstory.

It originated in the very first Mock Ctrl+Alt+Del thread in GBS. Someone found and posted a picture that Tim Buckley had made of himself in which he was standing buck naked with only a gaming console hiding his block and tackle. We decided that none of the other emoticons were sufficient to express the WTF, and thus :psyboom: was added.

Not entirely sure, but the gif is obviously a crying face, and the code is qq, which looks vaguely like two crying eyes, so, uh, yeah, it's an emoticon to represent a crying face/person. Don't know much more story than that, but how much more do you really need?

Whenever you're amazed that someone blew a relative fortune on such a stupid emoticon, remember that emoticons used to cost a lot less, so it was saner to buy a whole series of related emotes like the phone ones.

Of course, that doesn't excuse stuff that happened in the last year or two like the Mass Effect collection.

Actually qq originated from warcraft 2 or 3 where pressing ALT+qq would exit the game, so people used to to poo poo talk other players. "why don't you qq some more" or some such thing. This eventually turned into a pair of crying eyes since it looks like that and people who quit out of games when they are losing are also whiny :eng101:

It was an ice hockey thing from a long time ago, I'm not sure on the details or if anyone still uses it for anything.

Incidentally, here's the explanation for :psyberger::
Once upon a time in SAS, someone took a screencap of noted Steelers quarterback and rapist Ben Roethlisberger with his hands on his head that looked incredibly like :psyduck:. It became a meme and someone made a picture of psyduck in a Roethlisberger jersey. Then someone else made an emote-sized version and added a syringe for reasons I don't quite recall but were probably related to Roethlisberger crashing his motorcycle while not wearing a helmet. Then a third someone paid money to add :psyberger: to the forums.

The story goes (if memory serves me right...other old goons can feel free to correct me if I am wrong) one particular goon had a ludicrously hot girlfriend named Sonia. They took some pictures of her (and I think her and him together) and posted it all over DPPH. A massive drama bomb followed. The smiley, as far as I know and as far as the forums proper goes, are all that remains.

I have no idea where you would get any pictures or video that exist. They may have been lost to the sands of time but my understanding is that she was, in fact, unbelievably hot.

Not to mention that the smilies are all just existing smilies with a Mass Effect character slapped on it. It's just kinda pointless which wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't also for what Splizwarf said about the "standing around burning money" effect.
