That's strange, since I'm pretty sure "quest knowledge" is also on that list, and since it's listed as "exp" rather than "experience," but then again, a lot of stuff in this game is just slightly off (and I suppose that could be said for any Capcom game), so I'll take that explanation.

You can check the amount of EXP a pawn has in it's status. Check your EXP when you go to bed, then rest at the inn first thing you do when you play the game tomorrow. If you get a "your pawn has returned" message, check your EXP again. While I have never actually done that, I can guarantee you, there won't be a difference. There is no way your pawn would level up without you. It would be a terrible game mechanic.

Been playing this since launch day and having an incredibly good time. Took down my first griffin last night. First time it attacked it just hosed off somewhere in the distance. Next time it hassled me I guess I convinced it I was worth fighting as it kept circling back for another go. The pawns I hired didn't seem to know what to do with it at first, but after seeing me jump on it a few times, they got the idea and started helping me prevent it take off again. So satisfying.

I take it the special chests contain randomised (better) loot, same as the regular chests? I had the most 'so Japanese' moment in the female bandit camp. The leader got all pissy as I had men in my group, so we ended up murdering the whole camp. I looted a special chest in her vicinity and found some ladies silk undies! Naturally they are now equipped on my pawn for maximum weird factor when someone inspects her in the Rift. Also, do the special chests restock the same way?

Anyone know if Madeleine sells any nice robes after she sets up her shop? I named and modelled my pawn after Yuria the Witch from Demon's Souls, but so far the best robe for her is that plain white one from Caxton. She ain't exactly looking very dark and gothic right now.

Excellent, I'll have to hit the catacombs up. I've only found the boarded over exit near Gran Soren so far. Having so much fun just taking things slow in this game and gradually expanding where I explore. The map someone linked looked small at the time, but now it's feeling like plenty. Booted up the game yesterday, a couple of questions:

The poo poo my non main pawns pick up, when I send them back to wherever do I get to keep that stuff or do I have to manually do it?

Is there no install option for the ps3? I'd prefer to install some data if it'd help to prevent some of the issues where the voices dont sync with the npc's lips.

Pawns inventories are automatically sent to your storage when they're forfeit/released. Installing doesn't help with the lip syncing issues at all (on xbox, assumably PS3 too since it seems to be just badly done and not related to memory issues), the trick is to be a dumbass and laugh your rear end off every time you notice it.

As for daggers, what there? I like scarlet kisses but it not having a default element kind of sucks. Magic rebalancer looks really good once I get high enough. I've got grand scension but never use it and rarely use sunflare although I have that too

More DLC just went up - a bunch of those lovely medal hunt quests and a pack of weapons that are more effective against specific monsters.

The weapon pack is called the Monster Hunter pack. Got so excited when I saw the name, and so disappointed when I saw the description and preview image.

I had a pawn with Pioneer AI and he was the most annoying thing. He was a sorcerer so I mostly wanted him super attacking things or casting buffs, which he did pretty well...but not without ensuring that he took up as much screen space as humanly possible every second he could manage, which included running into monsters and stopping to cast spells while they drooled on him instead of letting Freighter S. handle them. Please do not give your sorcerer pawn Pioneer settings, especially if you also have them set to speculate on the origins of every beetle and tuft of nose hair they see. I'm not sure I could have made a pawn that called more attention to itself.

After switching him out I tried the escort quest for Mercedes to the shadow fort, and goddamn people weren't lying about those escorts being ridiculous. I was sort of able to handle it around level 21, but the thing was available at level 7 (what a joke). I had to reload four times after winning various fights and about to congratulate myself, before suddenly noticing Mercedes face down in the dirt. The trip also involved bumping into a dragon that napalmed me from the sky while the pawns went nuts and ran in circles. Made it though, and now Freighter has a cool shield.

On the way back a helmeted cyclops showed up, which was a brief but awesome fight. Followed the thread's advice and glued myself to its helmet, then unleashed tenfold arrow ~5 times into its eye when it took the helmet off. Didn't last long after that. The large monster fights have been awesome so far, but I can't do them with an escort along since they always die.

Well that's weird, re-added Freighter S. to the list. I did see earlier that the column headers had all gotten dragged about halfway down the list and the PSN ID and Gamertag columns had gotten jumbled, so somebody is either screwing around or doesn't know what they're doing.

The best way to fight cyclops and ogres is well-timed jumping. I love being on a cyclops' head, seeing it reach for me, jumping 15 feet into the air and landing right back on his head after he's removed the helmet.

Enemies don't drop quest-related items when they die, so it's probably in a chest somewhere, and either way any named enemy will respawn after an in-game week.

He might be talking about the quest where you basically have to do something for Maul in order to get his approval, at which point he gives you an item. There's one for the female bandits as well. He should respawn eventually, although I have no idea if he'll be hostile towards you since you killed him and all.

The quest pack is another 10? Looks like it's on a weekly schedule. I hope the medals get harder to get, like, requiring levitate/double jump and ridiculously convoluted paths harder, otherwise this is the most boring DLC imaginable.

This reminds me (Dragon's Gaze/Wakestone shard), one of the shards that got put on my map was on the shield of the hillfigure, but I could not find that fucker, searched the Dragonforged's cave and surface pretty thoroughly for it.

The weapons actually are on disk (or at least I presume; hackers found a massive ammount of gear that isn't available in-game and a lot of it had "[monster name]bane" for names, which is what I'm assuming these are), but with dummy info for weight and stats.

Also the description says it gives you one of the weapons for free. The rest need to be purchased.

Yeah those weapons are all on disk, as is (obviously) the Captain's armor since that's just the armor Mercedes has on. It's done like that so that they avoid problems from people downloading pawns with DLC equipment that the player hasn't bought, avoiding poo poo like the Mortal Kombat costumes debacle. This, of course, will in no way stop people from continuing to scream about how on-disc DLC is the worst thing in the world.

Also if the DLC is just monster-specific weapons, then there's more coming because those leaked item descriptions had at least a couple more weapons that sounded pretty neat and had really unique abilities.

He will be. I had this happen to me; as far as I can tell it renders the quest impossible to complete, but it won't actually cancel because the game doesn't consider the fact that Maul won't give you his quest to be an issue. He still has the green quest icon above his head while he attacks you, so I guess the game thinks you can still do it somehow.

Is there a way to pacify NPCs that are pissed enough at you to attack on sight?

Nope, you get them all.

Yeah, that makes sense, that way they're able to get them to work on pawns in others' worlds without having to go through the whole compatibility patch/DLC route that so many people manage to gently caress up.

The way they've balanced them is interesting enough, I guess. All the stats are pretty low to begin with (for where I am in the game, anyway) but the enhancement costs are really high for 3 stars - one of the swords takes like 12 Wakestones and a shitload of money. So I imagine they're decent when you're starting out but not game-breaking or anything.

Hey, man, I distinctly remember this being an episode of Spongebob. :colbert:

DLC weapons:

Hellfang - Shield
A silver shield wrought in the likeness of a wolf. Especially effective against beastly animals.

Zombiebane - Magick Shield
A magickal shield capable of dealing fearsome damage to undead foes, sending them scurrying back to their graves.

Wounded Fury - Sword
A sword modeled after the Arisen's wound. Especially effective against spirits beyond the ken of man.

Sickening Skull - Mace
A fearsome bludgeon modeled after a tortured skeleton. Especially effective against foes of living bone.

Dragon's Flight - Longsword
An axe-like longsword modeled after a dragon in flight. Especially effective against the draconic species.

Cyclop's Bane - Hammer
A hammer fashioned from the skull of a cyclops. Especially effective against the one-eyed monsters and other giant brutes. (I am assuming "other giant brutes" means ogres and possibly golems?)

Saurian Bane - Daggers
Daggers with hilts of saurian leather. Especially effective against all species of the walking lizards.

Griffonbane - Shortbow
An astonishingly light bow capable of dealing equally astonishing damage to griffons and other flying monsters.

Hydra Husk - Longbow
A longbow fashioned from the pliant skin of a hydra. Especially effective against such monsters.

Metered Catharsis - Magick Bow
A magickal bow of queer design but unerring accuracy. Especially effective against humanoid foes.

Goblin Bane - Staff
A staff topped with totems of the three goblin species. Especially effective against any foe of their kind.

Evil Eyesight - Archstaff
An archstaff topped with the head of an evil eye. Especially effective against any species of eye creature.

---

You get one of each for free in your storage and can buy more of them at Black Cat. They all have lovely stats (at least before upgrades), so they're really only going to be useful against the creatures they are for.

You'll have to progress passed the first main chunk of the Wyrmhunt quests+event to upgrade the shops initially and also get the two quests to upgrade the two main shops (the armorer and Madeline).

I goofed and turned in a bronze idol to the main shop upgrade quest so I have no idea what I lost out on, but I only had one dagger upgrade in the shop as opposed to two upgrades like some of the other item categories had. So don't do what I did I guess.

Idols give you a discount for being in your inventory. I don't know if the different types stack since I ditched my bronze idol to a quest. When I handled the silver idol, I forged it and handed in the real one for a quest and kept the fake. The fake still gave a discount (not sure if it was the same discount, I didn't think to check at the time).

I would ditch the idea of there being an arc and just switch into whichever playstyle you want to play. Sure some classes have some overlap in skills or augments that help out but it really doesn't matter much. For example the magic boosting skills are like +10 magic, the strength boosting skill is +10. These things are not going to make you significantly more powerful in any regard (just look at how much strength your weapons are giving you; enhancing is more important).

That being said I'd go strider and get the terrain grip and run speed augments, those things are so nice. Honestly I get way more mileage out of the quality of life augments than anything. Cast speed increase (this is a max level sorc one), extra weight from fighter, terrain grip from strider, faster run speeds from strider, etc.

Here's how to find it since it's convoluted as hell and I completely missed it on my first playthrough. You have to do the witchhunt quest, which means you also have to do the find Quina in the witchwood quest I believe. Once you've done that leave, come back and destroy all 7 of the fog totems in the witchwood. There are 3 in the first area and 4 in the hidden area. Then find the big yellowish golem in the marsh in the hidden area and it should wake up.

I don't know how to start half of that stuff. Who is Quina, and how do you get a quest to find it in the witchwood? Next, how do you get a witchhunt quest? I've explored the witchwood as thoroughly as I'm able to, but I can't get through the locked door/blocked passage, and the golems lying around won't wake up to fight me even when I sit on their heads.

Shadow Shackle trivializes all 'normal' (non-large) enemies. Skeletons/zombies/bandits/wolves/saurens/etc. Just start battles by throwing them everywhere and then stand in them so you can cast more from safety.

It also casts faster than skeletons/zombies will spawn from the ground so you can rush up to them while they are assembling and end the battle before it even starts.

You can actually drop offline and you'll still get the same message with items everytime you rest.
