Yu sounds a bit too much like Adachi for my friend's tastes, but I'm liking the new voice actors for Chie and Teddie - which surprised me, I guess Teddie's just wore on me after a while but is totally acceptable for just an errant line or two. Is that really Yuri Lownthall still voicing Yosuke? I thought I'd gotten good at picking Lowenthall's voice, but he actually sounds tangibly different this time.

I was not prepared for how uncomfortable I felt hearing Yu. This coming from someone whose favorite character is definitely Adachi and who also really loves Johnny Yong Bosch. It just... doesn't feel right. Especially after watching the anime for so long and getting used to Daisuke Namikawa as the only voice for the protagonist I know. I wanna give Chie some more time before I make a decision on how I feel because everyone is being pretty ridiculous in this trailer, so maybe in game it'll sound better to me. I've gotten used to Teddie by now.

All of those phrases are exaggerated and vaguely insulting descriptions of their character. Naoto's the only one that seems to pick up on it in that trailer.

If I recall my strange Japanese society studies (read: the Dangan Ronpa thread) the terms "Carnivore" and "Herbivore" refer to someone's romantic personality.

Yeah but in this case it just refers to Chie's massive appetite for steak. Edit: oh right, double entendre.

I did not quite realise those titles are a thing that showed up in game-play. This game has suddenly got about ten times more funnier. And is that Bret Weaver doing the announcer voice? It's been a while since I've heard him doing things.

Teddie's new voice really isn't doing it for me. The guy reminds me of someone that would be on a low budget Fox Kids show from 10 years ago.

Wow those titles sound even dumber when they're spoken in English, especially Yu's, I loving hate Yu's. Anyways it seems like every female VA changed, Erin Fitzgerald as Chie sounds significantly different than I imagined in my head, Yukiko sounds a bit like... I can't put my finger on the VA, but it does not sound like Amanda Winn-Lee at all, and Naoto is definitely Michelle Ruff, which I honestly don't mind. I though Kanji's voice was changed at first until I realized that Troy Baker sort of went into Shadow Kanji territory with that voice, which is bizarre given that you'd think Kanji is the one character whose voice wouldn't need to be changed much for this game. Literally the only female VA from the main group they seemed to have got back was Laura Bailey for Rise and really, Laura Bailey is in like everything at this point so this should come as no surprise. And yes, that is in fact Patrick Seitz (Ragna - Blazblue, Dracula - Castlevania, Bob - Tekken 6) as the announcer, which is pretty drat great. Sam Riegel as Teddie isn't really doing it for me, I honestly find it kind of hard to believe that Dave Wittenberg was not attainable in some way. Cleretic posted:Is that really Yuri Lownthall still voicing Yosuke? I thought I'd gotten good at picking Lowenthall's voice, but he actually sounds tangibly different this time. Yes, that is Lowenthal's voice, no it does not sound different, he's just fast-paced now because he's in a fighting game and kind of has to be. /I know too much about English VA's.

Some more misc v1.02 notes I didn't post here yet... - Mitsuru's Bufudyne's "hitbox adjustment" was making it bigger. A lot bigger. It takes up about 1/2 the screen now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEYtgf82lnQ#t=5m06s - Aegis's Orgia meter gain on 22B switch out is pretty small. It'll be useful I'm sure, but it's not a huge gain. - Labrys can charge her R-Action, doing so causes it to force a CH (forces FC at Red level), even during combos. This gives her some interesting new mid-screen combo options: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmsk9FxqWIM - S.Labrys's R-Action faster startup is REALLY god drat fast. It's actually a really good R-Action now! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJut5O5hEqs (Also unrelated to v1.02, her Person's big double hammer fist slam attack is actually a low hit, EX version behaves a lot like Slide Head. Yes you can do unblockables with this.) - I have no idea if this was the case before but Akihiko's Thunder Fist super is invincible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9unTYGxAuXk#t=2m29s - It's hard to tell but it seems like his 5B -> j.B loop got nerfed pretty hard. j.C nerf doesn't seem real significant. He's still good, relax. Also unrelated to v1.02 but man I never noticed before that Chie's R-Action does no damage at all unless the first initial short range kick hits. That does about 1000 damage and each hit after is only about 100 a piece. Edit: Uh wow S.Labrys's Brutal Impact A version sure is fast as poo poo now as well. So let's see, this move: - Has full auto-guard - Is really fast - Is unblockable https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiivvkLxnUA#t=4m40s Gwyrgyn Blood fucked around with this message at 17:21 on Jun 7, 2012 |

Think I read somewhere he only does union jobs nowadays? I'm really confused by the whole voice actors guild anyway. Perhaps someone could explain why, for example. Everyone had to act under different names in the original Metal Gear Solid, how come? Or how only Cam Clarke returned for Tales of Symphonia 2 (Never touched the game and I don't want to either, but that's what I've heard). Does the union decide which jobs are ok to pick? Does it depend on how the actors are paid and treated by the companys who wants to hire them? Can't say I'm well versed in the Japanese voice actor business but they don't seem too restricted in what they can and can't voice unless they cause drama. Heck Norio Wakamoto has voiced porn atleast once, under a different name but still.

Other things of note... stage/music selection is back same as BB. After KOF13 I will never take this for granted again. Megane selection doesn't appear to be in the E3 demo, so there's a chance you might have to unlock them like in the Arcade version. There is however something called 'Navigation', not sure what that is. And thankfully you can still bring up the pause menu on the character select screen to change buttons. So glad this is a normal feature now. Also this is the dumbest thing to talk about but I don't like the English font they are using. I don't know why, it just looks off.

That would make sense and I suspect that's probably what it is, but it seems like a strange word to use to describe that. I've heard Susan Dalian enough to know her voice from Storm, Haku and Naoto, Naoto's voice in the trailer is too high pitched from what I heard to be her and Michelle Ruff's been in way more stuff, so she's much easier to recognize. Now, I'm more than likely just jumping to conclusions since I've only heard one line from that trailer so I'll retract my statement until I get a more definitive sound clip. EDIT: Lucinice posted:The voice acting industry sounds like a bad industry to work in. Japanese VA's are actually kind of treated like stars over there, however in the West it's not very kind to you unless you're a part of one of the high profile cartoons like anything on Fox or Disney Movies. I've listened to some commentary on Anime DVD's and while they do love their job, the western VAs acknowledge that it doesn't really make much, I believe either Chris Patton or Jay Hickman stated that they had to sleep in their car at one point. DOUBLE EDIT: Mind you, Steve Blum is probably living well due to being a rather high profile VA due to voicing over 200 characters in the past two decades. Considering the insane popularity of this game, you can rest assured that an expansion is in the works already. Who will make it in is anyone's guess at this point though. I suspect we won't start to get details until at least after SBO is done, at the earliest. I'm holding out hope that Arcsys will manage to convince Atlus to let them put Dojima in the game. Kuromaru actually seems pretty likely since that would bring another very unique playstyle to the game.
