I haven't been in several years, but it was incredibly fun the time I went. Plus you can walk around the gallery and check out a lot of art.

Also, did anyone check out Tom Middleton's Bass Music Roots & Inspirations mix?

It's sincere comedy! Or comedic sincerity! The covers mixtape is pure great! Download it and hear him take on Rack City or Give Me All Your Luvin' among many, many more. Amazing!

Oh, yeah, I know about the Undeniable album and stuff. I phrased it badly, I kinda meant it's good to see him back on it. Especially with such a great tune and backing it up with a full video release and everything.

I was trying to figure out who did the original instrumental of Poltergeist (DJ Target) when I came upon this from Lord of The Mics 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqHDltr-mqQ

I hope we see more of a resurgence (some of the Butterz artists flirt with it) of the more ascetic old grime style.

gently caress me, old days there. Don't think I've watched a Lord Of The Mics in years, same with hearing Poltergeist. I used to love the Risky Roadz DVDs too. Honestly grime was just so loving out ahead there with the whole video/DVD thing, Channel U and all that. loving class.

You'll never see that type of Grime done ever again though. At least in the same way. That attitude, that headspace has long since pissed off. Still wee flickers here and there sure, but nah, gone I think. Ah well, I can't complain really. I remember loving getting my mind blown to any of the devil mixes, or Scorpion or Gully or whatever. Cunts nowadays can't understand how out there all that was at the time (but hey whatever, the next thing will come round eventually and it'll make grime look like the loving John Barnes rap or something).

Update on July 28: once I nail down transportation and a place to stay in NYC, I am gonna be up there for a day of bass music.

Besides the MOMA event, apparently there is another Reconstrvct night planned with Coki headlining. Haven't seen a flyer or anything to confirm, but apparently this was announced this past Saturday. I believe Goth-Trad will be there for a night in August!

Sounds like there's a good bit going on there - though I shouldn't be surprised given where it is, New York always seemed on top of things from days. Of course it helps that New York City girls like to party (yeah, yeah I'm sorry I'll get me coat again).

Anyway quick thing folks. It's now June and you know what that means. Yes it means summer is officially here, so I'm expecting all of you to dust off your old Garage tapes and discs and lock onto whatever funky (or Funky) poo poo is being beamed out on the pirates on a hopefully sunny afternoon.

Not only that though, this month also marks the one year anniversary of this very UK Bass thread. So it's time for a bit of a summer make over. Sometime over the next couple of weeks I'll be doing a little bit of renovation to the OP. Nothing too major, just a lick of paint, updating links etc etc.

One of the things I want to do is put a kind of State Of Bass 2012 thing in there. A year is a long time with this music, with the sound and the scene changing so much from summer 2011 to now, so I feel it'd be good to do something to show where we are at right now. Nothing too crazy or intricate, just something similar to the entries there right now. A paragraph or two showcasing 4 or 5 bits of proper solid 2012 music.

But I'm not going to think of the tracks all by myself this time. No, I want your help for this one! I want all you guys and dolls (including those lurkers!) to pick a favourite track you've heard or bought over the past 6 months or so then post it here and talk about it a wee bit, if you can. Tell us why you like it! What makes it that bit special? Why you think it deserves to be one of the first things a newcomer to the thread may see. It should be something that you've heard that you think is a pure classic already, maybe something you still hear being rinsed in mixes or that you've still got it in your own record bag 6 months later, or maybe something you think we'll still be listening to a decade from now. Maybe even something you think really shook up the entire scene!

It could be a real rave up thing, it could be a real breaky thing, it could be a kinda slowly Housey thing, could be a Grimey thing, whatever (if we could get a nice mix of sounds and styles it'd be loving magical)! Anything that you feel is some proper forward heavyweight bass music that has been doing it for you over the past few months. The best suggestions will end up in the OP in the new section, where I'll naturally take all the credit for and make myself look really cool and knowledgeable, but you can live knowing that that Youtube link is only really there because of your own hard work. The threads very own MC Duke if you will! Really what more can you ask for!?

So folks, away off and listen to all the poo poo you've bought over the past 6 months and see if there's anything you really think will fit. Now again there is no rush, you don't need to do it right this second as I won't be doing anything for another say, two weeks, but start having a wee think and start flexing those typing muscles and when you're ready have at it.

I'm game. It's tough because nowadays it seems like the biggest tunes get rinsed out so fast. I'm having a hard time thinking of a really "big" tune from this year that I'm not sick of. Maybe I'll try to think of some tunes that some people might have missed.

I hereby nominate Objekt - Cactus:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XU6DnRMrZo

Hessle were relatively silent for most of 2011 after they released their compilation "116 and Rising", but they came back in 2012 with this barnstormer of a tune.
It's not one people are likely to have heard out a ton due to how bleedingly difficult it is to mix successfully (at least, if your name doesn't rhyme with Bren BrUFO), but boy is it devastating when played out.
Objekt takes a searing bass wobble not entirely unlike one that might be found in your contemporary brostep track and pairs it with a skittering off-balance rhythm for a track lies in the intersection of dubstep, garage and techno. Brace yourself for the gut-churning second drop at 2:30.

He said in an interview somewhere that he finds it quite surprising that this got released and people liked it, because he made it as a pastiche of mid-range brostep wobble. Which is quite amusing.

Alright, after much deliberation I'm going with French Fries - Yo Vogue http://youtu.be/D5mU2h6UnOw

This is just a great example of so many of the things that have been happening recently in bass and club music. You've got the blurring of the line between your post-dubstep bass music and Dirtybird-esque bass oriented tech-house, booty house, or whatever you want to call it. You've got the bmore / jersey club kind of vibe going on. You've got the half time breakdown with the trappy hi hat thing. You've got the Ha sample and the increasing gay influence; it's all there.

I'm gonna go with Dream Continuum - Giv A Lil Luv
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pT1yV7axOsA
These guys discovered that the sounds of footwork and jungle are a match made in heaven, and subsequently left everyone trying to make 160 bpm tunes in the dust. This track's got everything you could possibly ask for: 808 juke rollage, ravey chord stabs, cut up euphoric vocals and of course some sped up breaks. Dream Continuum's a collaboration between Machinedrum, who put out a great footwork inspired album called Room(s) last year, and Om Unit who released footwork edits of classic jungle tracks under the name Phillip D Kick. It's cool to see two talented dudes realize they're heading in the same direction and team up to hone their sound.

You can download and read about the Phillip D Kick edits here:

Cheers to all you guys who've written some stuff so far! Very nice so far. Still plenty of time for the rest of you all to put up something, so away and get digging in the crates and pick something really cool.

Anyway I was getting a laugh at the latest Jammer song/vid. Despite hearing it a fair bit over the past week or two I've only now just realised he's changed the lyric from 30 to 40. Nice. I wonder how many of them thought they'd still be doing it 10 years on. Actually most probably thought they'd be rolling in cash right now ala Dizzee, ah well.

I'm torn. There's two tunes that I've been absolutely loving, well 3, but one of them is unreleased as of yet so gently caress that for now.

Squire Of Gothos - Chemistry Set
I know this thread is torn on Squire of Gothos and the whole mashup bassline thing coming out of Off Me Nut, but honestly I loving love it, it's just so damned fun. No pretentions, just a couple of mess heads from Sheffield doing what they want to hear and what they find funny.

Phatworld - King Of The Land
Again, another Off Me Nut track (Tich from Squire and Dankle) from their christmas jungle EP (Is Jungle allowed?). Keeping the inner junglist alive. A bit more serious than their usual material, but every bit as good.

Who will win the greatest battle of them all?

I was gonna nominate TMSV & DJ Madd - Difference (J:Kenzo remix), but change that over to Amon Tobin - Goto 10 (Kryptic Minds Remix). The talent between these producers really comes through. I get chills as if I'm listening to a finely-composed classical piece when I hear this track. I feel like there's a lot of control and restraint, yet it's peaceful, really atmospheric, and has serious low end.

Hell of an interview with Mala on his upcoming Mala in Cuba album.

Mala posted:

We ended up working with a guy called Roberto Fonseca and his band. It wasn’t until the very morning that we went into the studio in Havana that the concept came about – which is that they were going to record traditional Cuban rhythms for me, but at the tempo I enjoy writing music at… around 140.

3/18/2023: Day of the Dorks
Champion - Crazy (Feat. Princess Nyah) (Terror Danjah & DOK Remix): The original track is great on its own, but Terror Danjah and DOK bring enough roughness to elevate beyond a simple nice UK Funky track. I'm convinced Terror Danjah's gremlin tag makes any song better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKYeXrqwxXE

Royal-T - Cool Down: Debuted on JME's Tropical 2 in 2011, finally got released as a stand alone track this year. Has a summer vibe, but not being outdoors at the beach. Bass is incredibly strong in this and is what drives the track along, in my opinion. The vocals are nicely cutup, they don't take over the song, but serve as an accompaniment to the bass. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ei9iMZR0EA

Todd Edwards - The Stranger: Exactly what you'd expect from Todd The God. Released on Tropical 2 as well, the the tune has disco vibes, but also a classic 2 step feel. Of course, this being a Todd Edwards track, the main attraction is how Todd plays with the vocals and makes them into percussive tracks at time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZyCWSX8T_E (Mislabeled as JME and pitched up a little, not a full length YT that I can find)

Saw Author - V.I.V.E.K. - Jack Sparrow - Ruckspin - Pinch - Joe Nice on the 2nd at Reconstrvct VI. The one year birthday for VII edition is July 28th, featuring Coki - Jay 5ive - special Deep Medi guest who I'm guessing is either Mala for DMZ set with Coki or Kromestar because of Jay 5ive and his collabs.
