Good luck, mate - I will definitely be shopping there!

I was tempted myself, but it would be a labour of love. I enjoy my current job too much to want to move fully (and do a daily commute to Manchester), and I figured that it was a bit daft putting my hand up for work when my availability would be super low (i.e. one shift a week). The return just wouldn't be worth it.

Calling it for 2014 - Lego Ancient Warriors. It is amazing to me that they haven't done it already. Perhaps they want to stray away from war with real ethnic groups. I too would love Greeks vs Romans or whatever. That Cuusoo submission looks cool, but he has fallen into the trap of creating an entire them rather than a set. I would start with a Collosseum set. That would be fantastic.

That said my Crystal ball has been very inaccurate, as I did insist there was no way that awesome haunted house was monster fighters :ghost:. It is a lovely set. I was a bit surprised at the pricing on this one. Seems a lot more even and fair for pricing between countries. No more give away RRP's for the US? Or maybe only Star Wars is like that now :argh:? Don't worry Americans, I'm sure you will get the last laugh when the Australian RRP is announced.

I mainly like to build castles and architecture with my Lego. Unfortunately, I have noticed it is really really hard to get decent numbers of pieces in realistic colours. Im mainly after the hugely popular light grey (new version bluish grey). Bricks aren't such a problem, but plates are always in high demand. Does Lego do this on purpose to try and guide us towards the huge sets (joust, fire brigade etc.) or is just coincidence? There was an awesome deal on those large brick boxes (450 pieces) but I decided against buying any as they include colours like light and dark blue but no light bluish grey. Is bricklink the only possible way?

It's a fairly regularly sized retail unit in a really big, busy city-center shopping mall. Should be a good location. Hard to compare it to other Lego stores as I've never been in one. This will be changing soon though! I think it's in a really good location. It's in a recently completely refurbished area of the mall in the middle of a load of popular brand based stores (Apple, Disney, that kind of thing).

Oh to be more precise: 2,934 sq ft (thanks Google).

No it's a new proper official Lego store (the one in Trafford Center is run by the company that runs the LDD, Merlin I think?) in the Arndale Center. There's going to be a new one in Sheffield as well.

It's based on the game The Old Republic, and yes it is one of the best looking Star Wars sets. I have been looking forward to it's release.

Also, picked up the Shelob set this weekend, a great build. Shelob herself is a masterpiece, and the web tensioner setup is awesome, she can actually hang from it with no problems. She looks great hanging from a on my wall, although the cat wasn't too sure about that.

That can't be a real set. They did exactly what I did with those flick missile bits and sticking a cone on them, which is expressly verboten in official Lego designs because they cannot be pried apart.

It works fine as long as the cone is not transparent.

I checked, and yeah, they're pretty sticky. It's not impossible to remove though, because the rod has a hole through it so you can actually apply some twist and the cone can be eventually worked loose..

This. It's because the two kinds of plastic heat up from friction at different rates and expand differently, and become permanently stuck. The ones on my Lunar Limo are never coming off (which is okay because I'm never taking it apart.)

Why not? That set just became my #1 must have thing.

There are a lot of lego sets I've looked at in the past and thought "hmm, that's nice, maybe one day." But that haunted house... I will forgo a car payment if I have to (thank god I'm gainfully employed) but there is just something about it that really, really appeals to me.

My limit on lego would probably be the Lunar Limo or something, don't have the space for headquarters or massive buildings. Think I'll have to make an exception for that haunted house though, it's like Lego went into my 8 year old mind and made my dream lego set.

Yeah, great at getting us into Wawa.
I haven't seen it mentioned, but I noticed my Lego store is offering minifig collections:

- One is a beach-themed set, with the girl surfer in a bodysuit, hula girl, and blonde surfer guy in one set, and they come with BBQ equipment.

- Another is just a random collection of various minifigs, which comes with the Gorton's Fisherman, space mercenary, mummy, and a few other guys.

I bought this and the SW Y-Wing yesterday. I'm not quite through book 1 and it's already absolutely massive. Between this, the Shuttle set, and the UCS Jedi Fighter, I'm quickly running out of shelf space for Lego.

Stop making huge sets that I have to own. :negative:

Think of it as an investment. It's hitting all the right buttons for it to escalate in price once it's out of production.

  • It's expensive. More people will want it than will actually buy it.
  • It's scaled to fit with the modular buildings, even if it's not technically a modular building and doesn't "connect". Who doesn't want a haunted house for their street scene?
  • It's generating tons of interest. My girlfriend couldn't care one way or the other about my LEGO collecting, but she specifically asked me if I'd seen and if I was buying it because "I want to build this one."
  • Lots of fantastic little touches. A heart in a jar, for instance.
  • Several unique pieces in quantity -- like the zombie heads.
  • It's the only haunted house LEGO has ever done and people seem to love haunted houses.
  • It can double as a Halloween decoration. This might be the first LEGO set that you don't have to make excuses for displaying.

Keep the box, protect the instructions, don't lose any pieces and it will likely be an investment rather than a purchase. The only thing it's missing is some kind of branding tie-in. If this was officially "The Addams Family LEGO house" or "The Munsters LEGO house", I'd buy dozens just to horde away.
