Try lightning :ssh:. I know it's most likely the least used buff but it's good against Ogres, Cockatrices, Cyclops(es?) and probably a bunch of other small enemies. I've killed a Cyclops in 3 seconds flat with fivefold shot and lightning straight into it's eye.

Fights with ogres were some of my most memorable fights personally. The Quarry in particular was one of my favorite parts of the game, and I was a female mage at the time.

I've actually been struggling to find a use for dark, personally. I read it's good on bandits but I can't tell, though of course it's my pawns doing all the attacks with the buff so I don't see the effects very clearly. This was also in the sort of place where all the bandits are extremely hard at my level and a couple groups are outright impossible, so it may not be a very good impression, but I didn't notice it doing very much.

Huh, coulda sworn I tried lightning on the ogres and it did unremarkable damage just like everything else.

This game really needs a button you can hit to relay orders and queue abilities ala Mass Effect. Come, Go, and Help just doesn't cut it given how complex the pawn system is.

I'm starting to get really frustrated with the pawn system. I'm currently a Sorceror, with my main pawn being a support Mage. I usually grab a fighter and a warrior pawn from the Rift to help keep enemies off me. But Sorceror really seems to gently caress with the Pawn AI because I'll try to back up to cast spells and my melee pawns will loving follow me. They'll stand there as they're being shot with arrows. This has happened with literally every pawn I've recruited over the past couple days and it's really frustrating me. I even get pawns that dont have guardian so I'm not sure what the problem is.

The maximum range that pawns can detect enemies is pretty short, I think. Also there seems to be a threshold where they do detect the enemy but won't go out and attack unless you give the "go" command.

edit: near the blood beach or whatever there's an area with goblins and cyclopses and ballistas, the goblins will man the ballistas and fire them and your pawns will make no attempt to avoid getting hit, but I didn't want to go over there and take them out because moving that far away from the cyclopses would cause that "ambush!" quest to fail. My mage in particular was walking around slowly in front of the ballistas being hit by them like it was her job.

Did you try telling them to Go? I did that when escorting Selene, and the pawns cleared a bandit camp while I sat back and watched.

Get Utilitarian/Pioneer pawns. Don't get Guardians if you don't want them parking their asses on you.

Use the Go order as well, yes. Go is a double edged sword because if you use mage pawns, the mages will go rushing out to their death so your other mage pawn might be a little less effective as a result.

I'm having sort of the opposite problem but still the same deal with AI while playing Sorcerer. My pawns are actually all too eager to do something and will run off after whatever random enemy they please, including following lone fleeing bandits and wolves that won't be an issue for the next minute or so, leaving me to deal with all the enemies that still are a threat and I can't do anything about without cover. I have to be sort of close to cast anything since manual aiming takes a while, particularly with the spells that target an area, and the lock-on doesn't work until you're dangerously close to the target.

On my first run I frequently played Ranger like a physical-based Sorcerer, standing in the back just using arrows instead of spells, and my Fighter/Warrior pawn was amazing. He would constantly deal with the biggest threat including the enemies that were coming for me, used skills well, and generally did whatever I wanted him to. My current main is still a Fighter with the same AI as Freighter S. but has been unimpressive; I just don't know what to do about it.

Are there any story quests to do in post-game aside from bringing 20 Wakestones? Or is that how post-game progresses? For reference, I have already dueled the duke and aggroed his men.

I was annoyed that I couldn't abstain from fighting him, so I gave him an Arc of Deliverance for good measure.

Poison works pretty well against ogres, I noticed that if I pile 20-30 poison arrows into one, he'll be dead pretty goddamned quick.

They should've named Ogres "Trolls," though. When I think of ogres, I think of something much bigger and burlier and stupider, but TROLLS hide under bridges and run off with unprotected maidens and billy goats. :(

It will actually only show up one more time after you complete the main game, and it can switch characters at that point to the one you most recently maxed affinity with, so you'll get another chance. I had the same reaction but didn't end up being forced to be a lesbian after all. Just keep going.

God this game is so random sometimes. For some reason I didn't really notice it before, but it's such an incredibly out-of-place thing to appear in the ending of a game that is about lighting yourself on fire and scuttling around on large monsters like a flaming cockroach.

Yeah, you can both destroy their ballistas and you can hit their operator, if your aim is really good. Telling if it's working is hard though but keep at it. Also you can destroy incoming ballista shots in midair.

You can, but I wouldn't recommend it. They can hit you, too. And that destroys the ballista. That's more likely that you hitting them. You can get up to where they are once the door opens on the far side of the courtyard and if you stand near the wall over there they can't hit you.

Yes and you should pretty much keep reloading until you can take them out before it gets blown up because it makes fighting in the courtyard a thousand time less frustrating. Also once they're gone you can use the ballista to kill one or both of the cyclops in the courtyard with impunity.

I think I finally got it by using normal bolts (because they reload much faster than the explosives) and shooting their bolts out of the air when they fired on me.

Oh I don't think they are particularly hard, they are just too well armored and it slows down the pacing of the game to have to chip away on them for so long, especially since, like I said, you will probably run into most of the ogres in the game pretty early.

I don't really like Ogres much, either. They're neat to fight at higher levels, but as a level 20ish female mage I'm still getting my poo poo pushed in by them constantly. Chimeras and Cyclopes go down fine, but a single Ogre still destroys my party.

There's only one near the hut that you can fight which wakes up in the Witch Hunt quest, but there's a regular one and a metal golem in the back area that can come alive later. You can tell which ones are real because you can grab and crawl around on them.
