Do one or two escort quests and by the time you're finished nothing in the game will ever be challenging again. The difficulty curve is pretty much a cliff.

That's what I thought, then I wandered into Soulflayer Canyon and fought the Cockatrice. Spent like a good half hour fighting that fucker after he stoned two of my pawns almost immediately. Still managed to kill him though. But now post-game is roundly kicking my rear end thanks to those goddamned hellhounds.

Wow the difficulty just spiked for me on my way to the final battle. These enemies are reminding me of when I just started the game. Seriously any suggestions here? also the area from the tutorial, was wondering if I'd ever get back here RME fucked around with this message at 21:36 on Jun 14, 2012 |

If you are going to do any one escort I suggest taking the trainer from the encampment (I never remember his name) to the Shadow Fort. You get a greatsword that consistently beats out every two handed weapon I've picked up since. Slap that on a warrior and make things dead.

Pick up the quests from the notice boards, but let them happen naturally as you play. The important sidequests are all gained by talking to people with green question marks above their heads, and they're the ones that will take you to interesting dungeons and locales. I've been meaning to make a better quest guide than my previous one, with chronological order, but in the meantime look at 'The Hero' in this trophy guide to see the list of important sidequests.

Maybe give us a larger world, with more distinct regions, like a snowy mountain top area, some tropical jungles, or a desert area. I would be all over that. I love watching other people's pawns progress. Up until yesterday I used the same mage and warrior for 20 levels. The mage, though still a mage, has surpassed me, and has clearly better equipment. The warrior switched genders and is no longer a valkyrie though, sadly. Also someone hooked my warrior pawn up with a warhammer. Not as good as my greatsword, but still awesome!

Yeah, it's been really fun to check in on my friends' pawns and see how they've been progressing. I took one of my friend's level 14 pawns into the post game with me in the hopes he'd be better prepared once he got there!

Samurai Sanders posted:Yeah, I agree that they didn't execute that right (especially for how long it takes to move netween gran soren and cassardis) but deliberately loving with JRPG conventions is a good thing in general I think. The genre had badly, badly needed it for basically a decade straight. I don't think it's strictly a JRPG thing, lots of Western RPGs also have the tutorial town syndrome.

I restarted as a strider with my main pawn Herr Komrade as a mage, and everything is awesome again. The game is so much faster and more satisfying when you can reliably handle the bulk of your damage output yourself and use pawns more for support and aggro. I've already gotten to hire a fighter modeled after Commander Shepard, and having my main pawn use magic lets me see all the magic weapons and armor I ignored last time without having to deal with the headache of playing mage myself. Except for some reason my pawn hasn't been hired at all, which makes me wonder if there's less demand for mages than fighters. Freighter S. got a decent amount of hires at the beginning and end of the game, and even Old Snake got quite a few in the short time he was around, and they were both fighters. I've tried to give Herr Komrade the best support spells I can at the moment, the standard Anodyne/Halidom/Fire Boom.

At least the starting town doesn't get destroyed like it does in a large number of JRPG's, Gran Soren, the main city gets trashed instead, I still find it amusing that the Blacksmith and alchemy vendor are still open literally right infront of the massive hole.

I remember the first town after the tutorial in Dragon Age: Origins being the point where the game took off the gloves and proceeded to feed me to a human/wolf/spider centipede of pain. Dragon's Dogma is much more pleasant.

Lotish posted:I think that's one reason that Gransys itself is such an isolated part of the larger country it belongs to, and we only deal with the duchy rather than the kingdom as a whole: So that the sequels can grow geographically and take us to other places without having to generate entirely new landmasses for us to explore. I'd like that too, but I'd also like to know how Capcom will pull that thing without it smelling of B-List writer doing a sequel on spec. The story looks pretty "final" to me, in the sense that it's mostly a story about breaking a cycle of reincarnations, more or less similar to the concepts of escaping the wheel of destiny in Buddhism. It's a story that does not give hooks for sequels, more or less like the various chapters of Final Fantasy are about bringing a planet to the brink to destruction to save it just a few seconds before the ending titles.

I know this was covered somewhere in the thread but damned if I can find it. My pawn keeps switching back to guardian from utilitarian (secondary) and I have to have a little sit down talk. It's primary is scather which never seems to change. I've used the potions to reset it as well. When she's set right, she's quite rocking. I wish it would just stay set.

I'm beginning to think that it was a bad decision to change my pawn to a big giant old man. My Amazon woman warrior got rented out all the time, but when I started my NG+ I used metamorphosis to change to a giant support mage (now sorcerer) and it seems like he never gets taken out. Do people really just want to look at ladies all day every day?

So apparently you can't do the rescue Quina quest if you go to the Pawn Guild in Gran Soren. Also apparently there was a notice board in the encampment that I didn't even see, or accept any quests from. Considering just starting over, I just got to Gran Soren. Should I or shouldn't I? Edit: Haha, apparently there are a bunch of quests in Cassardis too. I ran all over that town but didn't get any quests from anybody. I haven't had any trouble getting rentals with my adult men pawns. I might not be drowning in RC but I've always had more than enough to afford the RC items I want and he usually comes back all 4's and 5's. I like to think that the novelty of a pawn who isn't a woman and/or a child might appeal to some people. Or maybe it's all very generous goons

Clearly the creepy fetishes of the Dragon's Dogma community are the only thing affecting the rate at which pawns are rented. Nobody's hired my latest pawn so it must be fetishes.

I just picked this up the other day and it's a blast. I'm at about level 20, but I'm still a little confused about some things. I've read through the first thirty pages of this thread looking for an answer to my question, and I can go no further so I apologize if it's been covered a million times, but: I'm a strider, and once I hit max vocation level I'd like to branch out. Is there a class that lets me keep Ensnare, or a class with a skill that will provide a similar effect? I could look it up, but I want the rest of the skill sets to be a surprise. If it doesn't have any class icons, any class that can use the weapon can use that skill when learnt. If it does, then it's locked to those classes. Pretty sure Ensnare is strider-only, but you might want to double-check.

Are Seeker tokens randomly generated or are they just in 20 hard to find places? I've found 7 so far, but every one has been pretty well hidden, although a lot of loot in this game seems random, or respawns after a few days, so I'm not sure.

On my newest run I went Assassin and ditched mine at 38 so it gets any Dragonforged Everfall stuff I don't want.
