cyberia posted:The kmart near me (Brunswick) has been pretty good lately. I got the Creator Hillside House for $70 because the box was slightly dented and they have all the Lego board games for ~$25 each. They also have the widest range of Friends sets of any of the department stores. Nice! Change of plans then - might try to find the VW Camper at Carindale or Brisbane city. Haven't seen it in any stores near me before, but haven't looked recently...

As far as exclusives go, Target has the R2-D2 for 199, Big W has the SSD for 498 and Dino sets. Not sure if Kmart has any exclusives (maybe the City construction sets, I haven't seen them anywhere else).

Gravy Jones posted:For most people Technic seems to be a bit all or nothing. Not sure where you are, but it's not so big in the US and UK, but really popular in Western Europe, especially Germany. As someone mentioned there is a very active Technic community over on Eurobricks. Thanks for that, been checking out Eurobricks. I think a strength of Technic is MOC and customisation. I am in Australia. Every store here has Technic, but usually only 1 to 3 sets. Very rare to find the larger, more expensive ones. Someone mentioned that Technic parts can't really be combined with other sets and that is probably the killer for why its not as popular. When I have built other Lego, I like putting the minifigs in stupid positions and taking photos of it. Like having a motorcycle gang invade a medieval village. But you can't do that with Technic. It's more fun to build, but maybe a bit "meh" once its built? Something like that, we will see. My 2 year old was pretty enamoured with the quad bike.

ATTN: the other two Pittsburgh Legoons: The Target at the Waterfront put out two boxes of S7. Picked through, got tired of feeling, grabbed three that had big pieces in them because I want a Space Marine and a Bagpiper. Got two more loving Poseidons (and a Space Marine ) Friend traded me an Incan Warrior for one of the Poseidons because they look cool in her big Atlantis set If any of you two Pittsburgh Legoons want to trade for my other stupid loving poseidon and you have like... anything cool at all, let me know. I don't feel like mailing them so yeah.

I don't know if it's just the Walmart in Robinson Township (just west of Pittsburgh) or all of them but they've marked down POTC sets a bit. Cannibal Escape for $21, The Mill for $30, Fountain of Youth in the clearance aisle but I didn't see a tag on it.

Went to a Target, they only had Gandalf, Shelob and Weathertop from the LOTR line, and I already got the first two. I'll need to find a Helm's Deep for cheap while the sales last. Lots of city, Star Wars, spongebob, ninjago and friends. And R2-D2. I liked the builds of Gandalf's cart and Shelob, so I'm hoping to find some neat stuff in Weathertop when I can get around to building it.

Anybody have any experience buying collectible minifigs off lego.com? I'm having a hard time finding them in stores around where I live, plus it seems like I missed the boat for series 6, so I figured online is the way to go. However, I'm worried that they'll just grab a few of the nearest assembly line and I'll end up with a half-dozen flamenco dancers or whatever. I guess what I'm asking is: do I have a good chance of getting a nice selection buying a few off their website, or am I better off trying to find some in person? (I haven't actually found any yet and plus I don't trust my ability to feel them up without creeping out a whole toy store, so I'm not worried about not getting a chance to feel out what's inside).

Merchant of Death posted:Thanks, I guess the cv joints will be the only real expensive part I need. I might just have to build both. What made you like the Vampire over the Supercar Deluxe 2? I am going to have a hard time deciding which to invest my time and money into first. I forgot about the CV joints. I just used the ones that came with the Unimog. I like the Vampire more mostly for cosmetics. The methods he's using to get those nice angles are pretty neat. The mechanics are about the same, if not better, and the Supercar Deluxe 2 had a really blocky roof I didn't care for much in person. It's not entirely surprising that the model he came up with afterwards is better.

I was looking on ebay and it seems like all the most popular ones are going for as much as $10 a pop, which is more than I can bear to spend on a little plastic guy, not to mention losing some of the thrill. I might end up doing that, but I figured it might be interesting to take a gamble, as long as it's a fair game.

Ausgoon trip report - I went to Myer in Melbourne cbd on my lunchbreak and picked up the VW Camper. They had tons of stock and the store was deserted so if anyone has their eye on any of the discounted Lego it'd be a good place to get it. I think Myer must operate as a defacto Lego store in Australia as they have the lego.com exclusives (like the Camper) and you can sign up to the VIP program instore. They also have Lego-branded carry bags The only downside is that I can't build my Camper until I finish an assignment that is going to take me until at least Sunday to do

Amazon.es seems to have 30% off loads of Star Wars at the moment including a lot of the big mass market sets and all the new Summer sets. I put Malevolance, Sith Interceptor, Sand Skiff and Jabba's Palace in my basket and the cost including postage to the UK was around £100 less than UK retail. Check the listings on Brick Badger here: http://brickbadger.com/themes/STAR-WARS?lan=es if it shows as a greyed out price it's because Amazon don't have it in stock at the moment and it's a third party price. Follow the link to the offers page: "Nueveo" and you'll see the cheaper Amazon listing. You can add that rather than the default offer to your basket. I have no idea why they're so cheap and if they'll be honoured, but I don't see why not. Gravy Jones fucked around with this message at 12:49 on Jun 21, 2012 |
