Also it's more cleanly puzzle-based in the beginning at least.

Looking for an Xcom, Silent Storm type of game. Really enjoy the turn-based, action points, and squad outfitting. I've played other turn-based games like HoMM, the Kings Bounty games, and every Total War™ iteration, but I really want something closer to the above mentioned, and old Fallout games.

Different, weird, and based on the old Laser Squad, but might scratch the itch. As for me, recommend me some games with something similar to the Geoscape part of UFO. That feeling of starting small and building your organization/influence through research and stuff. Tactic part is a plus. I've already played the X-Coms, newer UFOs, and Silent Storm & co.

I remember that one being pretty good as well, but it's been a few years since I've played it. It also had a lot of great Spider-Man banter, which is one of those things that always seems to get lost in the adaptations. I've heard that the video game adaptation for the first film was also pretty good, but I haven't played it myself. I also thought that the X-Men: Legends and Marvel Ultimate Alliance games were decent action RPGs. Sort of like Diablo, but with superpowers instead of magic. thrakkorzog fucked around with this message at 06:36 on Jun 26, 2012 |

My comrade(s) and I are planning on picking up growlers of beer this Saturday and tearing through some sort of XBOX co-op 2 or 4 player game (we'll be playing local on the same console). We love games where you can improve and customize your character as you move through the game (a la Dark Souls),so are looking for something along the lines of a co-op action/adventure game with moderate to high difficulty (but nothing too serious or story driven). Fast-paced or twitch gameplay is a plus, but not necessary. I don't know if we're looking for a beat-em-up or a fighting game really (a la Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), but are open for many suggestions.

I've had an immense amount ot fun with Bayonetta and have been playing Vanquish recently. Any other games in the action mould where your performance is constantly being rated? I like the God of War games but they feel like a live film where Bayonetta and Vanquish feel more like theatre.

Vanquish, Bayonetta, God hand and Devil May Cry are basically all 'Genre, Taken to the logical extreme' So try the last two. God Hand is basically the best brawler of all time too so that helps.

How could I forget, I make a point of playing God Hand once a year or so as well. Not played a DMC game since the first which looking back felt very mechanical and robotic to control. Hardly fair to compare it with having just spent 8 hours this week in Bayonetta.

Try out the third one. Bayonetta is born from DMC so don't go in expecting quite as incredible visuals and refined gameplay as Bayonetta but it's basically what you're looking for.

I'm trying to figure out a good RPG for my 7-year-old sister to play that is not too complex. She absolutely loves Minecraft, and knows more about it than I (her 22-year-old brother). All I did was give her the wiki and she has figured out all of the crafting on her own, as well as searches YouTube for Minecraft videos; she learns a lot from them. She loves watching me play WoW and Rift as well, but she cannot, nor will I let her into those (too complex anyway). I've tried Diablo 2, but she didn't like it. Any intro-RPG suggestions? She loves the fantasy/dragon scene.

Torchlight has a lot of its better aspects, as well as the ability to have a little dog that you can give food to morph him into other creatures, and fights for you. Otherwise, I have no good ideas, but she sounds pretty cool. Edit: Maybe Costume Quest, though. Not a ton of dragon-ish stuff, but it moves into magic and fantasy quite a bit. It's also really cool, and probably the correct level of complexity, especially if she can read wikis and so on. (by no means does it require a wiki, of course)

Costume Quest seems excellent; I'll have to download that for her.

If a game looks more dated than Minecraft it might as well be Diablo 2. Ha. I'm looking for suggestions of overhead shooters. I'm thinking stuff like Smash TV, Shock Troopers, and Destruction Carnival. It's for SA Dev research. Also, a separate recommend request: games that are interesting from a race standpoint.

Waking up and listening to Joy Division baked triggered something in me I think S.T.A.L.K.E.R would fit your terms quite well. Its atmosphere is insanely oppressive and it has elements of horror as well. Call of Pripyat is generally regarded as the best, with Shadow of Chernobyl being in the middle and Clear Sky being considered the worst. Lots of mods for all 3 games as well. You could also try the first 2 Penumbra games, start with Overture and then go to Black Plague. Requiem is strictly a puzzle game and is skippable. Then if you enjoy them try Amnesia: The Dark Descent by the same developer. All 3 are 1st Person horror games that are genuinely terrifying at times. This last one might not fit what you're after, but Spec Ops: The Line just came out and is a 3rd person shooter that attempts to depict the horrors of war. From what I've read the story is genuinely good and is pretty depressing.

I'm looking for some game recommendations, perhaps something released in the last 2 or 3 years, as I'm almost done with Deus Ex: Missing Link. NOTE: post is a little long, but just want to provide more info so as to avoid wasting your time with suggestions I've already considered. I prefer PC over console, but will play Xbox360 or Wii games. I don't typically do multiplayer. Since I only play through a game once, I like modding fairly involved games before I start, (like STALKER: I modded each one before playing, only had time for one play-thru each). Not interested in debates on how good a game is without mods, etc. I'm thinking the following titles may be next to try, so a recommended order could also be helpful: 1) Fallout (for PC): open to suggestions on mods (only sane mods for one-time play through) 2) Splinter Cell: Double Agent (old Xbox version, which is better than the 360 version). May also continue with the newer SC releases after Double Agent. 3) RAGE by id software (I heard it's not great, but will play anyway. I have played a _lot_ of id software and Raven games over the years (Doom 3 series, Quake 4)). 4) Syndicate: heard mixed reviews, but I liked the original 5) Metro and it's sequel: more Russian FPS craziness 6) Vanquish (played demo and liked it, reminds me of Space Marine a little bit) Recent games I have played and liked: Deus Ex: Human Revolution (PC)- modded this one, too. STALKER series (all three) Space Marine (PC) Star Craft 2 (next version is pre-ordered) Star Trek Online (f2p, but maxed my character, lost interest) Battlefield 3 (Xbox, multiplayer) Call of Duty MW1, 2 and 3, Black Ops (all on Xbox360, single-player) Portal and Portal 2 (PC) Earth Defense Force (original and Insect Armageddon, Xbox360) Ace Combat 6 Bioshock: liked the first one, skipped the 2nd Dawn of War series I'm not into the Fantasy/Magic-style games right now (no Diablo 3 or Skyrm, etc.) Also tried Mass Effect 1 but couldn't get into it. Not into the super-hero games, either. I have also burned out on 4X strategy games, unless something has come along for a space 4X that's better than MOO1 and MOO2

Are there any relatively recent space games that allow you to walk around inside of ships and stations? I really wish there were space adventure games that made it feel like you're living in space and not just a sentient ship with a portrait stuck in it. The only one I know of is Shores of Hazeron, which is more like an interesting collection of bugs held together with lag.
