Also those apple pies are totally fried in lard. I remember that gag. It's from ep. 135: Two sides of beans, no sauce or cheese, and a caramel apple empanada from Taco Bell, complemented with a Think Thin bar, strawberry Muscle Milk and a Diet Sunkist from 7-Eleven. Gross, but something I could totally imagine Seth trying once.

So I'm totally late to find this podcast, and I see I have over 300 episodes to listen to. Yea, I can't do that, so in what I'm sure everyone is sick of answering, is there either A) a good point to jump in other than episode one, or B) a decent list of the 'best stuff' they've done so far?

As far as the "best stuff" goes you should look up Uhh Yeah Dude's youtube channel where they put up some filmed clips from the ep. 125-130 range. Most of those are golden. Also you can just search "Uhh Yeah Dude" or "UYD" on youtube and find clips uploaded by fans to get an idea of what people consider the best. But really though, start from episode 1. The show's quality has literally been consistent for its entire run. It's incredible.

As an alternative viewpoint, you can jump in at any point you feel comfortable really. Lot of people will say you miss out on injokes but they don't come up too much and you can watch basically all the 'important' stuff on youtube or the wiki can point you to the right episode. Its not really much of a narrative.

Actually I think I remember reading somewhere that Taco Bell is one of the most vegan-friendly fast food restaurants.

The hook for this show, for me, was in episode 5, when Jonathan declared interracial porn to be the best form of porn except for being intimidated by the black guys talking. Like others have said, the quality of this show is amazingly consistent though, so starting from the beginning just makes sense. That being said, I've been starring episodes in iTunes so I can rotate favorites on my Shuffle, and episode 39 is really on point. Chris Angel, humpin', pissing your pants, crazy-rear end porn...if you're looking for an early ep to start with, you can't go wrong with 39.

Man can I just like get a thing off my chest to some people who will at least get what I am talking about? No one even needs to respond to this I just need to let it out. I was reading all that stuff earlier in here about Jonathan and Seth saying slightly ignorant stuff occasionally and I totally was understanding of a lot of peoples points that basically were "These are funny people from LA of course they are going to occasionally say some stupid poo poo or be ignorant about something". I settled in the next night to episode 327 trying to relax before bed and Jonathan starts in with saying "tranny" and it really just ruined my whole night after that. I realize that as a transwoman I'm not exactly an unbiased listener here but it just really sucked to here that kind of thing coming from someone who I at least respect even if I don't know him personally. I know this is way too serious and I promise I am not going to send an essay to anyone or do some other crazy poo poo I just wanted to type it out really. Anyway have a nice night everyone. Behold! I think your big mistake is respecting Jonathan. He's a big trust-funded man-child from LA whose biggest hardship in life is people telling him they loved his dad on Night Court and whose biggest mistake was almost burning his house down with his dog in it. He uses homophobic slurs from the get and recently tried to defend them while Seth was all "slow your roll." But he spouts ignorant poo poo about all sorts of stuff all the time. Obviously I'm not telling you that you shouldn't feel what you feel but I tend to find more comedy than pain in people's ignorance when they're as harmless as Jah. I love his show but I'm not always laughing with him.

Yeah, I mean I'm not going to stop listening or anything. You made me realize that looking back, I actually don't agree with most of the things he says, it's just funny, and probably because this one thing he said something to do with me (in a very unrelated way) it removed me from the kind of mindset that I usually enjoy the show in.

If it makes you feel any better I started listening to this show from the beginning starting a few weeks ago and while there's a lot of unseemly, homophobic language I think there's an early episode where Jonathon is very insistent that a transgender kid who is going into kindergarten as a girl despite having a penis should be referred to as "she". Not defending his language use at all, and in fact I haven't even listened to any newer episodes so I don't know what they're still saying but I thought you might appreciate that he's not totally backwards.

I dunno, I've known some rather racist and bigoted people who are able to watch their words carefully, and I've known some good hearted people who just toss words out without meaning behind it. I'd put Jonathon in the latter.

I think it's okay to find fault with some things like that. It doesn't matter if there's no malice or deliberate attempt to offend behind something, simple ignorance can still be really hurtful to people. That said, seeing how far that ignorance can go is a big draw to me, like Seth taking the piss out of Jonathan thinking one out of every ten black child has Downs syndrome and being really sincere about how sad it is.

They're just not very intelligent people. They have silly beliefs and they're bad at critical thinking and the show's a lot easier to listen to when you realise that. They're still funny, but often what's funny is their failure to understand simple things. There was an episode recently where they were talking about some new healthy drink or supplement or something, and they were reading the ridiculous claims from the advertising blurb as if it was just straight-up fact. There was no critical perspective at all, and it was hilarious. It's hard to blame them for saying insensitive things when they are obviously so naive. I've gotten used to it but the only thing I'm really sensitive to as a non-American is the stuff they say about the rest of the world and about other religions. I've stopped recommending the show to friends because a few times when I've picked a random clip to show someone it'll be Seth saying "Hey MUSLIMS, stop PRAYING in airports" or casual jokes about everyone in Africa living in mud huts or something. It's uncomfortable and very off-putting if you're not familiar with them. edit: forgot the reason I came to this thread. Is there a youtube clip of the story about Seth going to a certain restaurant and only communicating through notes? Alternatively what ep is it? fuf fucked around with this message at 13:05 on Jul 1, 2012 |

I've been going through the back shows and all, and yea as a gay dude I do get annoyed by the casual homophobic remarks and all. Not enough to stop listening, and yea most of it just strikes me more as a dumb dude saying a dumb thing, but it doesn't magically make it not lovely to say. You can like a show and think the hosts have flaws, Elk never said they were a bunch of transphobic bigots and she'd never listen again, it was just 'yea, this language bugs me when it comes up'. Basically what saves it, for me, is them being legit dumb about everything, so it's way easier to imagine them as just dumb and naive rather than being hateful.

To me they're able to get away with it because there isn't malice behind most of the things they say. There's certainly ignorance and a hefty amount of snark but little hate. When you combine this with their transparency you can empathize with them and it makes it easy to forgive the ignorant things they say. I find their sincerity refreshing, nobody's perfect but listening to a couple of guys be so open about their flawed lives in a public forum is what makes them great. I'll leave you with this. I drove behind this guy yesterday, had to check if it was Jonathan. It wasn't...

Actually some of my favorite parts of the show lately have been Jonathan trying to explain some sort of science thing. I think there was an episode recently where he admitted that he tries really hard to sound smart and comes off sounding like a miss america contestant. And nemoulette: I wasn't trying to freak out or show everyone how offended I was. I just wanted to say it in front of a group of people who would at least be familiar with what I was talking about. I got it off my chest, and now I am fine. You know when something bothered you and it just feels good to talk about it and that's the extent to which you are worrying about it? It's like that.

Im a gay UYD fan, and i totally get where youre coming from. the recent attempt from Jonathan to backpedal on his use of human being, 10 episodes after saying that he didnt think calling him Jah was "appropriate" had me miffed to say the least. But honestly the way I look at it is that Jonathan, while ignorant, is seemingly a loving accepting guy. I don't think he means to offend people, he's just as rear end while trying to express himself

The people who are saying "Theyre just idiots and the show is funny because you get to laugh at their ignorance" are completely missing the point, Seth is a smart guy and Jonathan is at the least very self aware of how silly he is, and they play all the stupid stuff they do for laughs. Its the point of the show, it's like watching Colbert and saying "Yeah, I dont know, this Colbert dude kinda seems like an ignorant Republican gently caress, but the show does have occasional bits of genius if you just try to ignore that dumb rear end in a top hat." It's the entire joke going over your head, the subtitle of the show is America Through the Eyes of Two American Americans, its a commentary on America. Either that or Seth is really a single dad who eats goji berries and just wants his tween daughters to look their sexiest
