Well, past me, I have some advice, then. Take care of that assassin quest, look up a guide or whatever you need to do, and during the duel, go ahead and interfere on Mercedes' behalf, then use a wakestone on Julian. I'm pretty sure that not doing that is what has been locking me out of getting the quest where Madeline is accused of treason.

I have no idea about the escort I mentioned earlier. If it's a board quest, I'm not too worried about it, but that seems to be the one thing with Quina I've missed, assuming that the quest where you cart a herb to the church for her is the end of that questline.

Nope, I've never done either of those things and I've seen Madeline get kicked out of town 3 times now.

I tried to go to her store right after fighting the Cockatrice and the quest started. Does she have to be in love with you? I know she's been glowing pink in all of my trips through the game so far. In any case I think that's the window to do the quest--after fighting the cockatrice but before the next quest in the main storyline.

edit:
the wiki says you have to have done Reward and Responsibility too, that's definitely wrong, I literally just started that quest and my log says that Bad Business was my last quest completed before now.

Madeleine has been my love interest dude for both my games because I gave her the golden idol (and why would you bother grinding affinity with NPCs outside of the affinity you get from quests anyhow?). I have never seen her accused of treason or anything.

You have to go to her shop at a specific time in the late game and she won't be there, someone else will and you talk to her. She doesn't have a green box over her head or anything though.

Speaking of this game's completely rational and not at all baffling romances: is the person you give the ring to guarenteed to be the one that the Dragon makes off with? I'm trying to have it not be the Duchess for once, but I like doing her rescue quest, it's fun. I'll skip it if that'll make her be my love interest again though.

The one where she gives you a flower? That's not her last quest, the main priest person there will have one more quest involving her after that, I think you have to hit the next stage in the main questline and then head back there.

This is confusing the hell out of me. I never found any special ring to give anybody. I didn't even know there was a quest for the Duchess; I ran into her room once while looking for stuff to steal- that's the height of my interaction with her. Does this link into that fort near the north-east rest camp than I can't get inside?

Yeah, it does. Like other quests like it, you need to do certain things at certain places and certain times over the course of the whole game to make them all work out.

Yes, it sure does.

Here's the whole rundown for the Duchess' questline:
After meeting the Duke for the first time, she's in the garden outside, talk to her enough times that she takes your jester hat from you. Next her maid will pass along a message about meeting up at night, you have to sneak in. It ends...poorly. Then later right after accepting the quest to go to the Great Wall her maid is waiting outside, she tells you that Aelinore has been locked up at that Manse in the North and you get to go rescue her from there.

About the ring:
You have to have done the quest where you fight a golem and save the Witch (Selene) from the mob, that gets rid of the golem blocking a path to a gravesite. If you go back later on, you'll find a stone slab that the Dragonfored dude will decipher and you get the Arisen's Bond ring, which is supposed to be given to the person you care most about.

Both of those questlines are completely optional, the game will progress just fine without either one, they're both pretty cool and a lot of fun though.

Haha, the first time I met the Duke I immediately tried to kill that little jester and got teleported to the dungeon. Once I escaped the jester hat was gone and there wasn't any lady in the garden.

Nooooooooooooo! :negative:

I haven't ever gotten every single achievement for a game and it looks like Dragon's Dogma won't be the first. I've enjoyed the heck out of it, but trying to find every little quest has been maddening and its no fun any more to try and hunt these down. I can now see why the Seneschal and the Arisen want to die, trapped in this endless cycle. (End of the post-game)

Here's hoping Dragon's Dogma 2 has more monsters to fight and a way better romance system. The Duke's Manse was pretty neat, but everything else surrounding Aelinore was a painful slog.

No, I gave it to Reynard on my first two runs and it wasn't him. Apparently you have to do it right before the Greatwall and you have to have done a quest (escort probably counts) for the person, which would at least explain the second time.

If I was going to play as Strider and only use my main pawn next time until I get Autonomy, what class should the pawn be? Seems like Mage would be almost mandatory for healing but it could be interesting to go without that.

Yes, as soon as you create a pawn and rest at night (encampment or inn is the same) it gets shared.

Nice world you've got here. Shame if anything were to happen to it.

Okay. Here's how it went down.

We prepare ourselves in the dawn. Methuselah carries the majority of the analgesics, Ser Gabriel hefts our heaviest provisions in airtight flasks, while Honey Dew carries most of the empty flasks. All have been provided with lanterns, pickaxes and some edible mushrooms.

We struck out westward, encountering several cyclopes along the road to Barta Crags. Methuselah suggests we catch a harpy to ferry us across. We instead traverse the tricky terrain, where we battle a chimera. Ser Gabriel has the right idea, going for the jugular.

We head into the Greatwall fortress, and immediately encounter two armored cyclopes. Ser Gabriel tries his hardest to shatter their leg irons with a newly-found hammer, while Methuselah tries to burn harpies. It's a right mess. Honey Dew is nowhere to be seen for some reason.

Oh, there she is. Stating that blunt weapons crush bones, she immediately puts her shield to work. Ser Gabriel has no other option but the hammer at this point, so at least he pays heed. Everything in the fortress dies. Some things in the fortress die once again. It was a pretty successful sortie all-round.

Feeling brave, we decide to hit the nearby cockatrice lair. I'm able to bring it to ground for Honey Dew and Ser Gabriel to work over. Methuselah blasts it with flames from afar, and all I have to do is hold on and keep stabbing.

Once more, I can't find Honey Dew. Is she clinging to the other side of the cockatrice? We'll never know. One thing is true, though, everyone lived through the encounter with minimal poison damage. We even manage to score two, yes, two cockatrice beaks.

We climb up for a higher vantage. We provoke a cyclops standing guard over a narrow bridge, hewn from stone. Deciding not to take chances with fighting him in melee in such treacherous terrain, I speed him towards death by shooting him full of holy arrows until he drops his club. The club rolls down the bridge towards us and shunts Ser Gabriel off the edge. Ser Gabriel catches the ledge and allows the club to roll off to the left. It was a good thing he didn't plummet to his death - we struck paydirt in the upper levels of the canyon and we could not have lugged all those vegetables and minerals back to the inn.

After paying the Dragonforged a visit, we head on home. We bank everything, upgrade a few choice pieces of loot and I decide to hit the loo. I come back to Honey Dew looking me in the eyes and waving in front of my face, seeing if I'm awake. That new shield she has on is the Orilux shield, paired with a Bastard Sword. Ser Gabriel comes away from two days and two nights of campaigning with a Chestcaver. All loot is found during our travels, and well-earned for their hard work. Everyone came back to town alive, healthy and burdened so heavily with loot that we had to fight everything on the way back to Gran Soren - we couldn't outrun anything for long.

Awesome, that's a sweet shield. Though I just made her into a Warrior, it might have took after you took her, but I can totally make use of the sword. I'll keep the shield for emergencies or if I try her out at assassin. I assume he Barta Crags or new the Soul Flayer stuff?

Nice world you've got here. Shame if anything were to happen to it.

We found the Chestcaver in Barta Crags and the Bastard Sword/Orilux Shield in the Greatwall fortress. It was a pretty sweet deal for a fighter pawn. However, pawns of any stripe cannot be hybrid classes, so that means that Assassin, Magick Knight and Magick Archer are off the table.

Can you accept my friend request Haszs? That way I don't have to pay 70k to use your pawn :P

Moments after I post this, it was done, nice one man, recruited! :)

So far, we've had to leave the bluemoon tower because Gabriel got dragged away by harpies, me and HoneyDew got hit in the face by fireballs, and she got a bit of spare Chimeric plate I had :) pictures later

Haha there was this awesome moment fighting an ogre in the tower, Gabe and Honeydew were meleeing it while I peppered it with arrows and Methuselah was decimating it with mighty sorcery, anyway, I was stood facing it, and from behind it, Honey Dew's hammer comes in between his legs, then smashes upwards into his crotch. I was laughing so hard.

At one point Gabriel shouts "A spectre!" and I prepare to fight, they're so annoying, then Methus goes "Banish it with holy magic!" *POP* and I never even hit it once.

Honeydew's behaviour has improved for me, she's being aggressive as all gently caress, twice in a row she's seen an ogre and gone 'OKAY GUYS, I GOT THIS' and charged in with that massive hammer and her and Gabe get their jolly co-op on and smash it's knees in while I scale it and stab it up.

Methuselah is gonna be my go to mage for quite a while because he's a much higher level than me and he heals often and casts a ton of spells. So you may not see RC returns for some time, but when you do, hoo boy.

So far we've battled a ton of strong undead, harpies, and two ogres. It's been a blast. Still playing as I update this so, main update later :) also, levelled up and maxed the assassin vocation, hmmm, magic archer or mystic knight next! I'm gonna revert Gabe back to Fighter and give him that Ur-Dragon sword again, since it was gifted to him in the first place, it's only right. Guess I was just borrowing it for a while :3:

A lot of those side quests are doable after you proceed. There are a few missable ones in the first town. Like I restarted my character awhile back and this playthrough I missed getting the scriptures back to the man at the church and giving the lady helping the wounded the the flowers. There are some escort quests that will disappear unless you take them straight away. Currently I have like 1-2 quests left total and I haven't received the dukes next set of quests.

After action report! With Der Juicen and Huszsersvn (Honeydew and Methuselah) and of course me and Ser Gabriel

We begin our splendid journey, and arrive at the tower after a few minor battles!

Lots of leaping and jumping over stairs and fighting on balconies to be had here! Swishy cape!

Then calamity struck

"We lost gabe!" "You see him?" "No, you?" "Nah, nowhere!" "gently caress, let's climb back down."

"Okay, let's try again then."

"Stop that you jerk, it singes!"

The happy ogre dances, while Methuselah spends his time more usefully preparing spells

Foolish ogre, she's no easy prey! (See that hammer, squint, see it? That's you juicen :) )

Later, on the way home, we get waylayed by easily over 20 smaller enemies and I see a cyclops at the distance, so I charge in and aggravate the cyclops to spice things up!

Pitch battle involving direwolves, undead knights, and the centerfold - A cyclops. The aftermath was beautiful, there were over 12 direwolves and we were fighting for a long time after the cyclops went down. Afterwards I faced the battlefield and hit 'Go' and watched our pawns hoover up my loot :D

We passed by the graveyard too.

Methuselah: "I'll have it off! PIW PIW!" (I got to return the favour moments later)

The walk home in the dawn sun

Juicen: your pawn has really matured, she went from a pawn in her teens scraping by in the fights to a highly aggressive warrior that actively engages all enemies. Her and Gabe make a nice little team. I'm sending her back after this adventure, hope you like the Chimeric plate :)

Husz: Your mage is my new go-to mage, congratulations, it will be a lnog time before you see riftcrystals or a gift (anything in particular you want? You too juicen). He's great, the second I hit the floor after falling off a cliff, a heal spell was cast on me, three skeletons rushed me and he shouted "Blast them with holy might!" and shot these little white bolts in a horizontal arc and all 3 out in one, he calls down the lightning, he's a badass old dude and I love it. It has been a pleasure :3:

All in all it was a fine and heroic adventure indeed! We crossed the bridge to head back into Gran Soren as the dawn light rose, a night well spent, my companions, a night well spent! Haha, I also saw a pawn on the way back called 'Faust', level 41, except he was dressed as one of those dark wizards that attack you at night (which are loving cool, might I add) so I immediately sprinted up and Antler Toss him into the air. He gets up, and goes 'Hello.'

Sorry bro.

Aside: Anyone notice their pawn getting more 'human' over time? For the first time my guy goes 'Mm, feel that breeze', in a place we pass through often, and I notice him having opinions on poo poo more and more instead of just shouting advice or facts. It's no big deal, but from what I've seen of the pawn subplot the witch in the woods being a pawn and stuff and getting to be a real human it fits in really nicely, even if it is just my imagination. (Please don't spoil anymore of that quest for me, I want to find out myself :) )

Wow, it's been a while since I visited the inn, I went in, me and Gabe both have 20k+ dp. Time for a vocation change I think! :wth: Or maybe not! I just spent almost all of it on max level augments and skills, I have to play with these for a few hours I believe, oh well, I'll earn more DP for my eventual voc changes!

That's all for now, I'll either be on later or tomorrow (Depends if I sleep, DD has pushed me into several all-nighers now)

Don't worry dude, half the fun is these massive treks from place to place, I often find myself doing random poo poo and exploring for hours then going "Oh wait, I was supposed to do a quest at that place we passed three hours ago, gently caress, oh well, guess I'll back, it's night time now!"

There are port crystals and poo poo like that for occasional fast travel but for me half the fun is running around killing loads of monsters.

I've only tried assassin, and assassin is loving awesome dude, you get so many awesome attacks, like this sick counter attack that lures enemies into hitting you then does massive damage to them and nearby enemies, as well as gouge and dire gouge for climby stabbing, cool augments, etc.

I'm gonna try magic archer then mystic knight eventually.

Are you on 360? I'll give your pawn a hire at some point and send him back with a goodiebag.

Traveler protection quests make said traveler follow you from the inn until you reach your destination. If his journey is not your immediate concern, you can cancel the quest by consulting the notice board at the inn. Once you complete the quest, the traveler will bugger off and you won't need to see to his safety. If he dies, he won't respawn for many in-game days so make sure to save intermittently.
There isn't any fast travel beyond using Ferrystones to reach Gran Soren, or to reach placed Portcrystals.

If you're not impressed with the Strider-offshoot classes, there's nothing stopping you from remaining a Strider the whole game. However Assassins tend to make excellent monster killers, especially up-close. Rangers still retain access to daggers with some of the more basic moves, while gaining a bow as big as a twenty-pound cannon and just as powerful. I don't know much about Magick Archers.

EHCIARF EMERC...
I do like climbing, it's my favorite part of this game, and I guess Assassin seems to be the lesser of the two evils.

My XBox isn't connected online, so no pawn swapping for me. Besides, I like my pawns. They're all children, while I'm a redheaded amazon woman. It's a fun image.

...but girls already have a vagina between their legs, so they don't gotta trick anyone...
I am playing ranger atm, and I gotta say this poo poo is pretty awesome. Tenfold arrow and Endecad arrow rock, it's like having a machine gun and a shotgun. Oh and meteor shot is perfect for sniping too. The only bad thing I noticed is that it rapes my stamina.

Max warrior for the reduced stamina use augment and problem solved.

Oh look, now it's me from the past! I even failed that exact same quest and did the same on the exact same games! Small world, hey guys? :3:

Thanks future self, I read your spoilers, I definitely wouldn't have done that without your advice so I'll make sure I go into any quests relevant to them prepared, much appreciated. Are you on 360 by the way? I can take your pawn for a spin if you like.

If you like, search for gamertag AdamskPlus. Gunnar started as a fighter and went into warrior for about half the game as I ran around as a strider and then assassin. When I started dabbbling in mystic knight and magic archer I swapped him into strider and then ranger without melee weapons.

Except for every now and again where he decides to jump on giant monsters, Gunnar is good about staying back and shooting arrows into everything. I even got him hitting the air medal on a metal golem. He's been everywhere and done near everything, is a scather/challenger and only talks a lot if I have no other pawns with me.

Sounds good, I was looking for something to complement my go-to party. We regularly tear through ogres, cyclops, golems and griffins like it was nobodies business and they were just a schlub. I'll try to use him later today, if not I'll use him at some point. I'll add you as a friend so I don't forget, if thats cool :)

I love how Ser Gabriel knows what a bad motherfucker he is. Fighting a gryphon and it manages to divebomb him. He rolls up and japes, "Not bad, that actually hurt." before charging back into the melee

I've been playing this all weekend on the PS3, soo much fun.

Really do have to remember to save more often.
Slogging across the empire is such a bitch though, I must say.
At least there are escort quests to add more reasons to hike all the way across the place.

Been playing with a Strider, thinking of going magick archer eventually. (only lvl 20)

Even if I, die I have to come back and maybe just take the battle a little bit more slowly, and then maybe change pawns.

God saves. Satan Invests

I went to go do a video of me trying to best the Shadowfort Drake last night at level 29. I was cutting a bloody swath through some hobgoblins when my pawn cast the meteor spell and suddenly my armor was dragon forged. I walked over the usual spawn area at night and again in the day after sleeping and no drake.

What the gently caress happened?

Nice world you've got here. Shame if anything were to happen to it.

I think your quarry was nailed before you could get to it. Your equipment becomes dragonforged only on the defeat of the Drake. A pity.
