Big change some will care about : retina display support. Is there any setting that can change the big white screen of VLC? Like, my wife and I play movies on my iMac in bed before we go to sleep, and when a show or movie ends, the screen goes blindingly white because it's a fullscreen like, VLC Browser/Playlist thing. It's awful. Is there a setting or something I can do to modify that?

I have it unchecked, and when a video ends, it just discretely exits fullscreen.

Yeah I'm running the most current OS. I do use the fullscreen arrows that are in the upper right, yes. Those are Lion Fullscreen App icons. Not unique to VLC. But when I start a vid, it's all small. That's when I click the fullscreen in the upper right. What should I be doing different? I want the video to be fullscreen/non-windowed. Just not the big white utility part of the app once the video is done.

Now when you want to go fullscreen, double click anywhere on the video while it's playing in the smaller window. When it finishes playing, it should go black and then return to its windowed state.

Anyone here use CrystalClear Interface on your macs? If so any recommendations for setting stuff up or any negative points to it? (im thinking of purchasing it as i am fed up for the horrible gray look to default OSX) http://www.marsthemes.com/crystalclear/ <-- is the site for it

So way back in the day Address Book used to have some bluetooth functionality. It seems that this has been entirely removed from OS X these days. Anyway, I'm looking mostly for a bluetooth caller ID app for OS X to display incoming calls and send/receive SMS. Extra gravy on top would be speakerphone function. So far I've found Phone Amego which does almost all of that (SMS doesn't seem to work though and I'm not even sure if that's possible on an iPhone) but the speakerphone function is garbage and mostly unusable.

I think you can still sync via bluetooth to address, but you have to do it from the bluetooth side (i.e. set up the connection, and allow the connection to do the address book). There used to be iSync as well, but I think that died in 10.7. BluePhoneElite used to do a bunch of cool caller id stuff, but it's really old and the site seems to have disappeared... http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/16070/bluephoneelite/

Well, I'm not looking to sync via bluetooth but you used to AFAIK (I'm thinking back to my SE T68i days) use Address Book to dial contacts/send SMS messages via bluetooth. Apparently there was also some sort of mystery caller ID feature that I don't remember. Yeah, the software you mention is basically what I'm looking for. Perhaps this Phone Amigo is the only current OS X software that does it.

The only themes I can think of are those by Unity which aren't Lion compatible. Problem is, due to the nature of OS X, any major theme work requires modification of system files which I wouldn't recommend, partly because of stability concerns, partly because it makes updating your system a bigger hassle than it needs to be, whether 10.x.x releases or 10.x releases (Need I remind you of the debacle with Leopard and APE?) Besides, I like the unassuming grey of OS X windows. I'm not distracted with transparency effects that make it harder to read the titlebar text and steal CPU cycles. The eye gets drawn to the actual content of a window, which is a good way of doing things in my mind.

Are the notifications of the App Store version of Twitter meant to not work? I have everything checked in the settings like this: Yet the only thing that works is Growl. When something happens the Dock icon gets the red star icon only for an instant before it disappears, and the menu bar icon never changes. Having to use Growl's rollup stinks for seeing what I've missed.

I tried that but no dice, got no notifications whatsoever. The thing is that the app hasn't been updated in ages and googling doesn't help, so I guess it's a pretty rare issue. I've had it ever since I first installed the app (didn't even have Growl at that point) and even reinstalled it a couple of times to no avail.

I'm possibly looking to sell my Early 2008 white Macbook, and was wondering if I absolutely have to put Leopard or Snow Leopard back on it to sell it? I know there is something in the license agreement about it, but does this mean that if the new owner wants to log in with their apple ID it won't work? The reason I'm asking is because I didn't receive any recovery discs from the previous owner, and would have to purchase a Leopard or Snow Leopard disc to revert it back. I don't do anything important on this laptop so I don't NEED to format it.

You can get the original discs from AppleCare, an Apple Store, or an AASP if you're concerned. And yes, you should wipe it before you sell it. It's better to give someone a machine that's at the setup assistant as well as clear out all of the stuff left on the drive so it can't be recovered. Don't go nuts; a single-pass zero is fine.

Does anyone else have to use Filemaker? Once in a while our 'server' will crash and the 6-7 people connected to it can't disconnect, and the server won't force them off. The only way to fix this is rebooting the Mac Mini it's running on.

Is it possible to set network interface ordering on a per-application basis? I'm onsite at a client, and I need to be connected to their network over Ethernet, however they must be blocking Gmail IMAP as my Sparrow mail client won't connect to Gmail. When I switch over to my tethered iPhone, Sparrow grabs the mail no problem. Can I direct Sparrow to use the tethered interface, and send all other traffic over Ethernet?

That would require figuring out which ips gmail needs to use and then using the route command as root via terminal to force them over the other interface. I.e I use a work vpn and if I do netstat -nr I can see the routes my vpn sets up: code:
route add -net 10.0.0.0/8 123.123.123.123

What was that tiny program called again that was posted a while back that basically disabled you from accessing Facebook etc for a chosen time without a way to undo it until the time actually ran out? I know I can change my hosts file but I guess I don't have the self control to not change it back "for a minute while my program is compiling" or whatever (which you know, always ends up to be closer to 10+ minutes…).
