Oh the last time I had it it was horrendous, but since most people who would have things I would want to trade for it know better, I have no choice but to drink it. Also, when I opened the last one that i had (which was about 5 years ago, there was a solid residue that was left on the inside of the bottle.

haha 15yo beer doesn't sound too appetizing to me. I forgot to report on what I thought of the 2012 Dark Lord (and the BCS: Bramble Rye). We tried DL first and I have to say that while I disliked it, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I think my problem ultimately was that I couldn't get past the nearly oil mouth feel with the overwhelming cherry/currant sweetness. I hate that flavor and I hate overly sweet things. That said a lot of the other flavors I got could lend it to being very good with time, but I think I'll chalk it up to "Not for me." On the flip side I liked Bramble Rye more than I remember from the first time I had it in January or whenever. It really kinda tastes like dark chocolate + raspberry/blackberry (which works very well, I think). While its not much more than a novelty still for me...I would definitely have it again. Did any of the Chicago people pick up the saison that Half Acre put out (growler only) a week or two ago? There is another saison tapped today that I'll probably grab since its basically on the way home from work (plus 2$ off growlers on Tuesday!) And on Friday they have a lager made with popcorn?! Huh.

Had a Flying Dog oyster stout last night. It was a pretty solid dry stout with a hint of brinyness. I wish it had more brine flavor to it, if it didn't say oyster stout on the label I probably wouldn't even have noticed.

Cracked a year-old Boulevard Long Strange Tripel. The bottle-conditioning definitely pumped up the carbonation and dried out the finish, but contributed little to the aroma and flavor. That said, I thought that this was a very good tripel. A nice balance between the Belgian yeast profile and the sweetness and citrus notes. This would probably be my go-to tripel if availability and price were reasonable for my area.

Well after going to Munich and trying a few others stateside I just don't think I care that much for helles style beers. I completely understand why people find them enjoyable, but I must say that I do not. Maybe in a few years I'll give you another try. Oh well. Regardless, this Sorachi Ace is just delicious and I wish that I had it where I lived. Going down to Tampa to CCB's facility followed by Total Wine shopping was almost too much for me. So much beer was purchased, and it will all be delicious.

If I am in CO at the time of GABF like I planned, I'll probably just stay somewhere taxi distance and see if I can't scalp at the door. Forget about playing that whole online ticket game. If I can't get in, oh well, not as if every good bar in Denver isn't also doing extraordinary poo poo during the whole time anyway. (If you want to meet a lot of fancy-pants beer people, by the way, the Falling Rock the night before opening is good.)

We brewed ours with a massive amount of oysters and the Briney flavor was only there in the tiniest amount. The beer taste great but I to wish it tasted more of the ocean. Maybe next time I will mash in with salt water. Oh yeah I am moving to England to start up a new brewery. Anyone wanna move to Denmark and run a brewery on a tiny island?

Haha holy poo poo, they screwed up the GABF tickets worse than I thought. Apparently you could buy member-only tickets through Ticketmaster's mobile site without having to prove membership. Now they're going through the list of every ticket sold yesterday and cross referencing names with membership lists to try and cancel illegitimate orders. Just wow. They did say anyone who might have their order canceled will receive an email or phone call first so that you can provide a membership number if they missed you during the manual check. For extra hilarity, go to their website and look at the sidebar of #GABF tweets. People are just making GBS threads on them non stop, the dangers of embracing social media I guess! edit: Got a better explanation of what went wrong. I'm about 50/50 on going to GABF this year. If I go, it'll be on sponsorship with the local brewery so I'll get access to every session. They all had a saline quality to them, but only one tasted like actual oysters. That's actually really interesting, I didn't know that. That certainly jibes with the one oyster stout I've had.

I thought Clutch was decent as long as you pretended it wasn't supposed to be a sour beer. If you just thought of it as a big, strong porter it was pretty tasty. But it completely failed at being even a little bit sour.

I'm actually pretty impressed with how the Brewers' Association has handled the fallout from this. It sucks that Ticketmaster are price-gouging incompetent assholes and I wish they'd used someone else, but I honestly don't know if there even exists an alternative for events the size and popularity of GABF. If they used some mom-and-pop site it would have just melted under load and had everyone nerd raging for different reasons. Also pretty shocking that it sold out that fast if only 21 tickets were sold incorrectly. Something like 12,000 tickets in one hour?

Got a nice package from fellow goon nuncle jimbo today so I'm enjoying a nice Surly Furious right now. gently caress this is good. First IPA to really blow me away in a long time. Smells great, really hoppy. Taste isn't quite as hoppy as the smell, but its got some great citrus flavor going on. Well balanced too. Didn't get that pine flavor I sometimes taste in IPAs (SN Torpedo) that I can't stand. I highly recommend this one!

Glad you like it. Funny you mention the piney bit because some BA types have been complaining that it's not as resiny as it used to be as of late. If so I can't really notice, for what its worth. Last night, I opened bottles of Bridgeport's Raven Mad and Two Brothers' collab with Brasserie Castelain, Diversey and Lill(e). I liked the former: a good porter with a really mild whiskey flavor. Nothing spectacular but certainly would get again if I were in the mood. The TB/BC beer though... Wow. Very impressed. Out of the bottle, it comes off as a very sweet biere de garde. Heavy pineapple-like flavor. But as it warmed, it felt boozier and boozier, almost to the point of being an old ale or a light barleywine flavor. Tastes much, much bigger than the 6.5% ABV. Definitely worth a pickup for those who can find it.
