I would just watch all the screensavers for hours. Cherished memories Also, I had that 3D Dinosaur Adventures game that had a bunch of dinosaur-related things, including a movie theater where you could watch sweet claymation dinosaur shorts. I remember in elementary school when devil sticks became really popular. You know, the two sticks you'd hit a third stick with and try to do tricks that little kids could never do. There was one different kind of stick thing after but I'm not 100% sure what it was called. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIX-QP6b24A&feature=related Flash Forward = my childhood. Jesus Christ, this loving thread. I've spent the past couple days just poring over this thread from start to finish, so much stuff unearthed that I've forgotten about entirely - or, at least, I thought I did. Here's some TV-related stuff that I haven't seen mentioned in the thread. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UFg2GpMFKY The Prevue Channel. That music. During the first year of Cartoon Network, it consisted of a lot of Warner Bros. and Hanna-Barbera cartoons. Then at 11PM every weeknight, it would shift to Late Night Black and White. All of that time spent watching old 1930's cartoons when I should have been sleeping. Have the theme and the opening/ending bumpers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijISSOiY90c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jh3dHNvcecI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNpeyi0Xo9w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQcV25PDHP4 This is purely a local thing when I was a kid, but it's so campy and dated that it's universally funny. The local Fox network had employed their own mascot of sorts, and his name was Mike Malibu: A super cool dude who wore a Hawaiian shirt, shades, a ballcap, and skateboarded everywhere he went. He always advertised upcoming cartoons, and he had some sweet deals with McDonald's and the Fox Kids' Club. These are total gems...and by gems, I mean that I'm positive he looks back on this stuff today in total shame. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxFWn_XPiuw The channel showing the rest of them. http://www.youtube.com/user/MikeMalibuFan/videos?view=0 Every Saturday, once the cartoons ended and boring things came back on, there was always one theme that came on during the afternoons. A theme everyone knows. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIAI-Ivv6H4 Last, but not least: I seldom watch television, so I'm not entirely up-to-date on a lot of things since I stopped watching. I was completely unaware that Nickelodeon Studios is no longer a thing, and hasn't been a thing for a few years now. I always assumed it to be something that's always there - I mean, it's Nickelodeon! The holy land for every kid in the 90's who got to enjoy the golden age of Nickelodeon. 9-year-old me is crying like a motherfucker. RIP.

I think every school banned slap bracelets because they were "dangerous" even though nobody had ever seen anyone get hurt with them. Was that the earliest "think of the children" bullshit? It's the earliest one I can remember. For a while, Tech Deck fingerboards were the Big Thing where I was growing up. All the cool kids had at least one, with a little set of tools, and I remember trading wheels with other kids. You were even cooler if you could do tricks with them. Most I ever managed was a clumsy ollie, but it was still fun. Also goddamn this thread. Now I'm going to have loving Summer Girls stuck in my head. That song had the worst lyrics.
