CLaude von Stroke is literally a genius, for the record. He has a bunch of videos out and about where he explains certain tracks and how he made certain samples and its really just clever and creative and cool.

breaks posted:Saw scuba last night, great set. Some kids in the back were looking awfully confused about their dubstep hero laying down a (mostly) techno set but most of the crowd was up for it. If you're in one of the cities he's playing during his little North American tour, make sure to go see him! It's kinda hilarious now because the Berlin based guys who were all about dubstep a few years ago are moving back to techno. Scuba and DJ Pete (the 2 big names) are actually playing a fair amount of techno nights and they don't organize as many dubstep nights as before (wax treatment is less regular now, and I don't think berghain has SUB:STANCE anymore). The big telling thing for me about the state of dubstep was that Shed (yes, our beloved hero producer who just released an album) is singing the praises of techno again, where as a while ago he was super into dubstep/glitch and saying he was tired of techno.

Hmm pretty cool thread. I see a lot of people share similar tastes. I went to DEMF and had a blast and now I'm thinking of checking out the Decibel Festival http://dbfestival.com/artists/ but don't recognize as many names. Orbital, Carl Craig, Matthew Dear, Nina Kraviz I think someone was gushing about Dixon in this thread and hear people raving about Actress but what other folks should I give a listen to before laying down $200.

Lots of good names on that list. Actress is great, his last album is special. Actress in general is someone special. For sure listen to John Talabot (his album fin is great), Objekt (everything he does is gold, peep his FACT mix for sure), Monolake, Demdike Stare, Octave One, DVS1, Roman Flugel, FaltyDL (he's like garage tho), Peter Van Hoesen. Also I really like Dixon a lot and recommend his mix for Robert Johnson from last year. He's a great DJ in general but that mix is something special. Teengirl Fantasy and Kangding Ray are also good, too. Axel Boman is a great DJ and a great remixer. Fun dude. Oh and seeing Kuedo would be fun too. You can find a lot of mixes by any of these dudes online. Try mixesdb.com and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Octave One are pretty good, so go see them! Check it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FBqrdhpPJk I really rate Bonobo as well, though they're much softer and a different style to most of the stuff posted here. Check out their stuff on youtube - I'd recommend listening to Kiara, Eyesdown and Black Sands to get a feel for their music.

Claude Von Stroke and Justin Martin were on diplos radio show, but it's kinda files since BBC tells me its not available outside the UK. It has some great moments in it, but it does have that whole BBC radio 1 station ID every 3 minutes which sucks.

I was at the block party too, I was pretty disappointed when he said he couldn't make it. I saw him at DEMF and it was probably one of the best live sets I've ever heard. I've always been a fan of his and his label but he completely blew me away at DEMF. I was debating going to FW and in the end didn't end up going but now I'm kind of glad because I would have been pretty pissed if I had to pay $30. Seriously though if anybody here gets a chance to see Vonstroke at least once, do it. a milk crime posted:Lots of good names on that list. Actress is great, his last album is special. Actress in general is someone special. I like Actress a lot but his live set at DEMF was pretty bad, I'm not going to lie. First of all for whatever reason his sound quality was poo poo. I don't know if he just didn't have his software set up properly or what but it sounded really bad. Second it seems like he hasn't quite figured out what he wants to do with his music live yet. Seeing as he is a fairly new producer, and his stuff tends to lean on the experimental side, I can understand that. But my point is it wasn't a very good live set. The rest of the lineup is great though.

Is $30 an expensive cover there for someone like that?
|
# ? Aug 16, 2012 04:14 |

Sort of, you can definitely catch cheaper acts depending on who is doing the bookings (I saw Scuba for $10). But the club Footwork has a fairly large monopoly and gets most of the big acts, and in my opinion its not a very good venue. It has a very loyal following but compared to some of the other cities and clubs I've been to its difficult to justify paying that much sometimes. I also saw Adam Beyer and Ida Engberg play back to back at that venue for $20, so even for them $30 is a lot. Also DEMF early birds are only $60 which is an incredible price and has kind of spoiled me.

Dirty Bird Party - Justin Martin, Claude VonStroke, Eats Everything, J.Phlip, Worthy - $15 $2 PBR woo http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?359230 was an overpriced cluster gently caress but had it not been the lineup was nuts There was a circo loco party that sounded nuts, Seth Troxlers annual bbq was definitely cool, poo poo show a hot creations party. I guess it's not any different from what happens in Miami or other festivals (?) but drat it's cheap. I am going to do everything in my power to go back next year. $30 seems like the most I'd be willing to pay

Great stuff. I am glad I ran across this thread. That CC mix is pretty intense and brings back memories of going to Miami for the Winter Music Conference when I was younger and could handle carrying on for days with 45 minutes of sleep and jumping from party to party. If I may contribute, this is a Sander Kleinenberg mix, a few years old but something I enjoy listening to still. Sander Kleinenberg - Saturday Night Sessions 2009 If you use Mixcloud at all, look up Umek's podcast, he has some good stuff. Also Tocadisco (Tocacabana podcast), Peter Luts, Kaiserdisco.. thank you *insert favorite deity here* for Audacity and the ability to record stream. This could be a bit of a long shot, but is anyone going to be in Ibiza between October 7th and 10th? So far, I have a ticket for the Circoloco closing party at DC-10 on the 8th. Now I'm trying to decide whether I want to check out the Space closing party on the 7th or the Sankey's closing on the 9th.
