Current Update:Super-League XXXII, Week 18 Current Champions Explanation of Championships Questions and Answers for Newcomers What the gently caress is the Super-League? The Super-League involves goons building their own teams, and then me using the Baseball Mogul engine to run a league. It's kind of like fantasy fantasy baseball. We also have a IRC channel at #TheSuperLeague. Building their own teams? Yeah, at the beginning of an Expansion period, I'll post a list of teams, each of which will be worth between one and five points. Each owner will be allowed to pick ten points (eleven for new owners) worth of teams to draw players from. Simple in theory, a bit harder in fact. Holy gently caress, this seems hard, and I don't even know who Dolf Luque is! Dolf Luque was a pitcher who had his best years in the 1920s. He was known as "The Pride of Havana", a solid- Eh, you know what, read these four posts: Tutorial #1: General Concepts and Hitting Tutorial #2: Pitching Tutorial #3: Tips and Misc. Tutorial #4: Picking Feeder Teams Tutorial #5: Advanced Concepts Thanks to tatankatonk, mrnoun and ToiletofSadness Okay, that took you 10 minutes. That's as much baseball knowledge as you really need. How Can I Sign Up? Well, registration is closed at the moment, but it'll open up either in a couple of months or never depending if I decide this next season will be the last one or not. Okay, I made a team, now what? Well, as a new team, your team will first compete in the Expansion Cup, which is essentially spring training for new teams. It runs concurrently with the last part of the Super-League season and gives new owners a chance to fine-tune their team before they get thrown into the deep end of the Super-League. The Expansion Cup season is 162 games long with no interleague play. Updates are done month-by-month, and, for this season, I'll be outsourcing that to tatankatonk. The teams are divided between the DH McQueen League and the non-DH Taggart League. After the Expansion Cup, there will be a dispersal draft to give your team a bit more depth, the draft runs for three rounds, and consists of players taken from the first four teams relegated from the previous Super-League. You should probably not trade your picks in the dispersal draft to veteran owners unless you're sure you're getting a fair deal. And then it's time for the Super-League itself, a 162-game endurance match. Updates are done on a week-by-week basis, and there will be four games of the week that allow me to showcase the individual teams of the Super-League. Around the mid-point of the season, there will be the Super-Draft, where each team will get a couple of reinforcements for the stretch run. At the end of the season, there are three potential fates for your team. The division champions as well as two wildcards per league will participate in the Super-League playoffs to determine a champion. A few other teams might be given automatic byes into the next Super-League. As for the rest? Well, I need to make room for new teams somehow, and that means that they must battle in The Gauntlet. The Gauntlet is a multi-round battle to the death. In the first round, the bottom four Super-League teams play in a forty-game mini-season. The top two move onto the next round. The bottom two are relegated out of existence. In the next round, the next two-worse teams face off against the survivors of the first round. The top two teams from that round move on once again, and so on until one or two teams (depending on the size of the expansion class) prevail in the final round and secure for themselves places in the next Super-League. If your team gets relegated, it is disbanded forever. You can re-enter the Super League during the next registration period and even keep your old team name, logo and whatever else you want, but that roster will be lost to you forever. This is all still very confusing, especially since I came in late and I don't really want to read Nah, it's just baseball, don't worry about it. Questions? PM Me. Super-League Obits and Stuff Teams that are definitely going to get an obit one of these days Like a flaming car crossing the finish line, the Bobbleheads win, but they look like hell doing it. Led by their captain, Mark Grace, the Bobbleheads have somehow managed to survive five seasons of the Super-League despite never being contenders. How is this possible? Because the Senor Goodtimes Division is a place where the sky is falling, the center cannot hold, and there's a spanner in the works. It takes a certain amount of team to be able to survive that chaos, and while the Bobbleheads may not be champions, they sure as poo poo are survivors...and then they became champions...so...neat. Hello, new thread! I hope this Expansion is full of lots of new blood and crazy ideas. We're doing well so far! I'm rejoining and hoping for a less snakebit team this time - new owners, or people considering joining, my first team was totally awful for no apparent reason for a full season, narrowly escaped out of the elimination Gauntlet, and proceeded to be awful for another season. Somebody needs to make a team made entirely with 1975 Pete Rose. Every position, all pitching, GM, pinch hitter, bat boy, everyone. I look forward to triple digit scores.

Yeah, 2011 Diamondbacks. I guess I'll pick the 1993 Rockies with my extra point so I can get some Big Cat action.

I did propose bringing back the Vice City Goose Eggs with the teams I had picked in the last Expansion Cup, so I could leave off where I started. Felt like I should deal with the players I had picked, which means I've gotta deal with Troy Tulowitzki/Buddy Bell/Rance Mulliniks/Marty McManus

Cthulhu Dreams posted:Do you really need them? If so have to trade for pinch hitting or defensive subs, got OF depth and a backup SS and catcher You can trade people off your feeders ignoring the 28 roster limit until rosters are finalized before Super League VII. It makes Smasher a little mad, though. But I was kidding, while Bloomquist and Crisp (and Ryan Freel!) would suit my team theme, I don't want them. Neither should you, though.

Don't have a camera handy, or i'd show you a photo of my note-covered desk after attempting to make sense of all the numbers. Coming into this as someone who knows zilch about baseball, other than occasionally a ball is hit with a bat, basically. On the plus side, I get 11 points, which i'll be using to get; 1911 Brooklyn Dodges 1919 Pittsburgh Pirates 1997 Kansas City Royals 1999 Tampa Bay Devil Rays - 1p each for 4 total 1940 Pittsburgh Pirates 2004 Florida Marlins - 2p each for 8 20(1)1 San Fransisco Giants - 3p for 11.
