I've been experimenting with film/video work, but it's just too time-intensive for me to make it a priority. Still photography is my moneymaker. I've put together a production crew so that when a client wants video to go with the photos, I can have them manage all of the equipment and logistics, I can show up to direct and shoot, then hand it off to them to edit it. Once they have the timeline edits locked down they hand it back to me to do the color correction, grading, graphics and final polishing - basically what's needed to give it my "look". I've just started working on a few really cool projects, I just don't want to say too much about them yet as it's all pretty new. I'm working with a commercial real estate developer doing not just photography, but also somewhat of a "creative director" role. One is a super high-end fashion boutique/workshop/event space, a billionare's pet-project, no expense spared and ridiculously detailed. Another is a pair of markets made out of converted shipping containers (which is something I've been wanting to do as an office for quite some time...). The third is the building in the photo posted above, which will have ground-floor retail/gallery space - I'm trying to figure out what to do with the additional three floors and ballroom. The most realistic idea at the moment is to turn it into a multi-level video/photo studio. If I can find the time in the next few weeks I'm going to try turning that ceiling dome into a giant soft box. In the meantime we're going to throw some ridiculous parties and turn the basement into a swimming pool. Oh, and if any of you are in West Michigan and have a crazy idea for a shoot and need a formerly-abandoned ballroom to shoot it in, I've got you covered.
