I picked natural, with black for outer and yellow for inner. Should ship this weekend. When it arrives i'll toss up pics and give a mini review.

I don't imagine WD-40 would be too harsh on the plastic to remove the residue. Perhaps that's moronic and there's a better alternative, but I'd definitely say there's easy ways of getting rid of that residue pretty easily.

My go-to adhesive solvent lately has been plain old naphtha, AKA lighter fluid. Not too harsh, smells good, won't attack plastic over the amount of time required to clean off some goop.

The N7 can use face-recognition unlocking, is that switched on? I could imagine that needing a bit of light to work.

Nope it was off. I've poked around a bit and have seen other users having similar issues. It won't come out of sleep when I am in a dark room. Go to a bright room? No issue.

It would require a driver on your N7, so not likely.

I think I met a real-life yosposter: I was browsing SA on my N7 at lunch & some nutter wandering past stuck his nose in & asked if I'd got the new iPad mini. I replied I wasn't aware the mini was out yet or even confirmed as a real product, and that no, this was an android tablet.

His reply? "All android tablet are poo poo, you should throw that in the loving bin & get an iPad mini"

Thank you random fruitcake, I have truly seen the light & will now throw away a fully functioning device to buy a non-existent product instead.

I can't get Kies to recognise my mother's Galaxy Tab 10.1. This seems to be quite a common problem with Keis but no one has a solution that actually works. It's a pain because I want to update it to ICS but I can't even get Kies to connect to the tablet. It just sits there saying 'connecting', and no amount of different USB ports or reinstalling Kies seems to help.

Any suggestions?

USB tethering makes a USB ethernet adapter appear on the device you're trying to get online, thus it requires device drivers, so probably not, unless the functionality is somehow built into the N7 ROM. Which I doubt.

I use Bluetooth, it uses surprisingly low amounts of power.

Why do you care about some random person's opinion on your tablet usage, and why do you think anyone here cares. Also way to go using a homophobic pejorative, even if you personally think it's ok as long as you're making fun of Apple.

People say uninformed things all the time, and I can surely make up stories about Android fanatics, but I'm not sure how that would help anyone.

vvv. Seriously? I was hoping for the best scenario. So I guess he's just calling a stupid person a fruitcake because somehow that's totally appropriate!

I use Android. And in nowhere did I call him a console warrior. I merely pointed out that made-up unfunny stories and slurs are not good for anyone.

In the UK, at least, fruitcake has absolutely no connotations of homosexuality and just means that someone is crazy. Or it means an actual fruitcake. I actually had no idea what you were talking about and had to look it up.

I would suggest Logitech:

I have one and so far it has just worked. Comes with a case that converts into a stand. 60 bucks at Best Buy.

Now that this is back, crosspost from the other tablet thread:

We need a physical device to go with the SDK for some basic Android development, and I was going to go Nexus 7 until I saw this:

http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/09/samsung-galaxy-tab-2-7-0-student-edition/

Galaxy Tab 2 8gb with keyboard dock and OTG adapter for $250. This will be a communal machine used for product testing so I thought removable storage plus the dock would give it the edge over the nexus. Aside from a slightly lower-res screen and slower processor, are there any major drawbacks to the GT2 vs the N7? Or any major flaws in the Galaxy in general?

Is that a Galaxy problem or an android problem? Update support is not necessary since we're basically going to use it to test things on various old OS versions. With fragmentation it looks like 2.3 is still dominating, and folks at work have phones and stuff with Jelly Bean.

It should be fine, but I wouldn't rely on getting any update to JB or being able to use Keis to get it. The Tab 2 runs ICS natively, so it's a big step up from 2.3, but you better plan on side-loading stuff on it because there are hundreds of users who go to plug their phone into Keis one day and it just won't recognise their devices for no apparent reason.

I was looking at getting a Tab 2 to replace my laptop but after messing around trying to get my mother's 10.1 to just connect to Keis, I'm definitely thinking twice.

PipeRifle

I'm fine with sideloading, and I guess I didn't make it clear: I meant that since the majority of users are still on 2.3 or a similar, older OS, we'd use the tab to test products on those older versions (in addition to the SDK) so its NOT a problem that it won't get a jellybean update anytime soon. People have new Galaxy phones and whatnot if we need to check JB functionality, and since people may need to make live updates to code while QAing something, I think the keyboard and mouse-enabling dongle would be a good trade off price wise, for our office.

I've been thinking of picking up a Nexus 7, and my main use in tablets is reading comics. What is the quality of .cbr/.cbz reading apps? Will purchases made on Comixology on an iOS device load on the Android version of the app? I'm assuming yes.

Also, what's the best way to read comics on the Nexus 7? Portrait with a little zooming, or landscape and vertical scrolling through the pages?

It's... serviceable, but not something I'd recommend for modern comics. It works okay in landscape, but you lose a lot of the impact that you'd normally get from turning the page onto something like a one-page splash. Two-page spreads are more irritating than readable. Like I'm trying to imagine reading All Star Superman #10 for the first time on a 7" and it just makes me a little sad.

edit/ Fit-to-width portrait mode "feels" better if you've got good eyesight. Perfect Viewer is probably the best free app.

Well that changes things a bit. I have a 3rd gen iPad (which I mostly use for comics) but I wanted something a little more portable to read my comics on a whim if I happen to be out and there's a lot of time to kill (shopping with the wife, riding the train to school, etc).

7" seems like the magic number -- small enough to fit in a suit pocket and be more portable than the iPad, large enough to make for a better experience than using the iPhone for the same things --, but if you say it's not a great comic book reading experience...

I've had the Dropad A8, a piece of poo poo no-name Chinese tablet, to review for a website. Comics were pretty decent (in landscape with some scrolling) but there didn't seem to be a decent comic book app. I'm willing to pay for a good one with a decent interface, mind you (just not back then, considering I knew that once I was done with the review, that poo poo would be on Kijiji right away).

I wish the Best Buy people would've had the foresight to install some comicbook app on the display models. Maybe it's just my crowd, but it seems like a lot of people are interested in that funcionality in tablets.

Come to think of it, Apple should do that on their display iPads, too.
