Shadow Labrys doesn't need to be spoilered because she's been an open part of the cast since her announcement. Now talking about what she does in the story is obviously a spoiler.

Honestly I'm surprised people take the story of P4A that seriously. What parts I've seen just looked like your typical hastily strewn together fighter-game plot.

This user has a YU and Kanji playthrough (Warning: Commercials) http://www.youtube.com/show?p=dhyt9n3rE94 This user seems to have a few more, including the P3 characters. http://www.youtube.com/user/TheInnocentSinful/videos Yeah, arcade mode basically makes it out to be another dungeon. Edit: I can't get enough of Teddie's story. He flirts with every girl and in general is funnier. It's different than the others. Every other P4 character has the same general storyline Fight friends, rescue Risette, OMG Labrys but Teddie's takes a slightly different turn. Double edit: Oh, Story Mode and Arcade Mode are two different things. Story mode is a P3P style story with it broken up by fights. That's why you don't see that on YouTube yet. The clips you are watching are probably from arcade mode. which only uses post fight commentary. Dehry fucked around with this message at 07:28 on Aug 9, 2012 |

Nah, it's actually pretty well done. Some are better than others, it can be a little hard to decide what's actually canon or not, but I liked the story mode, and I've played 7 of them so far. I mean, sure, this is a straight up Visual Novel with fights thrown in, but I like it. It's definitely not strewn together, from what I've played. Formulaic? maybe.

It actually forced me to go give the pep-talk to whatsherface so she wouldn't die.

The limit is 3 maximum, with 1 person per day 7 faction, so for example Jungo and Io cannot both die, likewise Keita and Makato make a pair, and Joe and Otome make the third.

On the Persona story talk, I do hope they keep 5 and P4A seperate. Continuing P4A's stuff in an expansion? Sweet. But I'd rather not take it into a new game. Just keep the mainline series doing as it was doing already with each game being primarily independent with some tie-ins.

The way Labrys spoke in Japan was of the Kansai dialect and that dialect is heavily associated with rural areas of Japan like Osaka. The american equivalent of that dialect is either a boston accent or a southern one and since the southern one has been done to death, why not shoot for boston?

I've heard a lot of people saying Boston, so that's what I'm assuming it is and that'd make sense. Although I haven't heard her voice clearly because there's no vids on YouTube yet of her English VA since everyone wants to play their anime fighters in Japanese, go figure.

You can easily solve the problem by just having Yu speak deeper, it's not like he doesn't look like the kind of a character with a low voice or by having Adachi speak a bit higher. Yes, they will sound similar, but JYB can't exactly be nutty all of the time as Adachi, which is where his voicework with Adachi truly shines. That or you could just get Yu a different VA, but that would cost more money when they already have an established VA for him.

Labrys's dropped letters sound less like Kennedy (emphasis on accented A's) and more like Sheila Broflovski from South Park (O's) so I'm going with Jersey. I've heard both in real life, but I figured that would be an easy way to communicate examples. What a nerdy post this became. As was mentioned, that's my problem exactly with JYB's Yu, it sounds like Adachi kidnapped Yu and turned him into a body suit.

Could I get some personal feedback on Devil Summoner? I think I'm gonna hear that Devil Summoner was a fun game but not worth the $50+ it costs to acquire a copy and Devil Summoner 2 is better in every regard, but still nearly as expensive. I just want to hear a review of both games by someone that's more of a gamer, than a diehard 'you're worthless if you don't have all the megami games' guy. But can someone tell me what the two games are like? I'm trying to expand my Megami line and my PS2 library at the same time.

I would advocate either though, and 2 having a compendium makes it gameplay-superior in my opinion.

I've only played the Raidou games of Devil Summoner, but I can give an opinion, if you'd like. Devil Summoner 1 is decent. The gameplay is really easy to get bored with since Raidou doesn't have anything more complex than his basic moves, there's still the demon gimmick, but now you catch them in tubes by ways of a little mashing gimmick, it's really not bad and I prefer it to conversations if only because I got sick of Demon conversations after Nocturne. It has the normal SMT conventions, fusing demons, using various amounts of them and the Devil Summoner actually uses Japanese mythology for the Raidou games in terms of major enemies. There's really not a lot to say about the story it's not very interesting until the end. The characters are actually pretty good and you get to meet Grigori Rasputin who uses Matryoshka dolls to summon demons. There's not much in the way from sidequests from what I remember though and overall it's kind of an average game. Devil Summoner 2 however is one of my favorite MegaTen games, I love that game to death. The gameplay's been improved, Raidou now has more options for attacks even if he's still simple, you can have two demons out at once which is a godsend, and there's a lot more to do in the way of sidequests. The story is really good, the game now offers multiple endings in the same vain of SMT, but essentially there's only really two endings as Neutral is the same as one of the others, I don't remember which. The new characters they introduce are really good and the even bring more Devil Summoner clans into the mix that they mention in the first game. The game also drops Japanese mythology for the most part and actually uses some Judeo-Christian stuff, Yes, Louis Cyphre does show up and it's just an overall really great game. Devil Summoner 2 however drops the tube collecting demons for conversations, which I'm like the only person in the world who didn't like, but DS2 is more like an actual main series SMT game than the first one in general.

Ineffiable posted:But can someone tell me what the two games are like? I'm trying to expand my Megami line and my PS2 library at the same time. The Raidou games use mystery investigation in the overworld along with demon abilities to help out. In combat, you and your demon (2 in the second game) are able to move around freely, kind of like the Tales series games. It's not as combo oriented though. All the SMT staples are there, demon fusion/recruitment, weird story, fun combat, etc. Summoner 2 eliminates some of the tedious bullshit from the first game in the overworld, which is nice. The combat changes make gameplay more varied and fast paced in my opinion. Also demon negotiation is cool as hell. Knowledge of Summoner 1 isn't required, so I'd suggest playing Summoner 2 first before deciding if you want the first game or not.
