So I've been playing this, and I thought it was pretty fun. Be warned: it's a port of a 1996 RTS (the same year the first Red Alert came out), written to run on the PC. That gives it a different feel from standard Android RTSes but it also isn't quite ideal for touchscreens. The UI tweaks to make it playable with said touchscreen are... decent. On the PC I remember being able to micromanage tanks to dodge incoming shells, which you can't do with a huge awkward finger, but this always seemed like a dirty tactic anyway. Levels are decently quick to complete - maybe ten minutes to complete a level halfway through the pack of twenty (or know whether the level is lost...). So, something playable on-the-go. Replay value is probably just in refighting levels. They didn't port the multiplayer, sadly. They did introduce Easy-Medium-Hard difficulties, which seem to just vary a strength handicap. Me, today, hoarding way too many tanks before finally deciding to rush the enemy fort:

Is it just me, or are the majority of items you can spend your coins on in Jetpack Joyride completely useless and only for show? I'm assuming the jetpacks don't do anything, the clothing doesn't do anything, only the golden vehicles don't do anything, and at least the tier one gadgets don't look like they do anything worthwhile. That pretty much leaves later-level gadgets and the utilities (most of which are one use).

Are there any good japanese style SRPGs available? I'd figure that a touch screen control scheme would be good for this genre, or is a psx emulator my best bet? I'm talking about games like Final Fantasy Tactics.

Nothing super special, but Generations just has nothing to drive you. Pick a map setting, wipe everyone else out, the end. It's also not much like FFT in game play where as Spectral Souls is pretty much an FFT / Disgaea clone.

Not really the answer you're looking for but there's a Nintendo DS emulator on the Play Store called DSoid that plays the Phoenix Wright games at pretty much full speed on my TF300. It's being actively updated, too, so compatibility and speed will only get better. Unless it's abandoned like all the other DS emulators that came before it.

Allow me to demonstrate: At least the Play store's willing to throw me a bone on a desktop: But that opens a whole 'nother can of worms because we've actually got three search behaviors being offered here, depending on which of Google's orifices we shout into. Nice explanation there. I thought it pertinent to also point out that while "Backup" is probably in Google's English dictionary, "Gurk" probably is not, which would make it less likely to appear at a decent position in a search listing.

I doubt Google uses an English dictionary. It uses word-frequency histograms built up by its spidering efforts. Such a histogram would know about "Gurk".

I would have thought it would still have core dictionaries for supported languages to add weightings to words, but I suppose that wouldn't be necessary assuming the majority of people out there can spell to some degree. At least Google asks. When eBay attempted to add correction and didn't give people a choice in the matter it was impossible to use. I don't know how many times I was left yelling at it like a madman "That is NOT what I searched for. Stop changing it you bastard!".

So it seems to me that Nintendo is missing a great opportunity to bring back some old Game and Watch games. They were practically made for touch screen phones, are there any good substitutes out there? Also, I was thinking about Digimon a few weeks ago and ran a quick google search for an official app but found nothing which I thought was weird since this too is a perfect game for smart phones.

Then you'll buy more $45 games, not free & $1 games.

But dear god, release a pokemon and make iap's to help level. .99 for 5 magic candies. 4.99 for a master ball. Think of the money they would make. Those games are addictive and build to be grinds. Iap's would bank so much.

I downloaded McPixel for Android today after seeing the PC version on a Giant Bomb Quick Look a few months ago. Its a puzzle game that's a mix between a point-and-click adventure and WarioWare in which you have to work out how to stop a timebomb from exploding by tapping on things and seeing what they do. The game is pretty amusing and I'm finding it fairly challenging, though some of the solutions seem based in random wackiness rather than logic but I guess that's part of the humor. I suggest checking out the free Lite version first if the game interests you. mrkillboy fucked around with this message at 05:48 on Aug 28, 2012 |

McPixel does appear to be pretty drat rad, although I'm not sure I actually like it. It's like... art or a coffeetable book that you have because other people will want to talk about them. Something worth owning even though it's not worth doing anything with? Definitely pretty funny though.

Can I just say, Yay Zed!. If I start seeing Bitmap Bros and such games appearing on Android I'll be lost forever. As it is the recent special on Another World and a few others have kept me occupied. I do have a question. Is Modern Combat 3 multi only or does it have a single player campaign? I've been craving some FPS (and TPS) action on my tablet and can't find a decent fix.

Having said that, younger children have no money of their own so this is probably a terrible idea
