When I heard that Kev Carrol was going for this I genuinely LOL'd irl. A reaction about the killings at the Sikh temple. It's all the media's fault. If they wern't out there making people confused over how many different types of brown people there are then the killer would have correctly targeted a Mosque like he was supposed to.  Since the creation of the EDL three years ago, it has been pointed out to various members of the far right that their claim that they are "not racist because they're against Muslims and Islam isn't a race" doesn't hold water because (among other things, but most of those rest on an understanding of what racism is in the first place, which is something they remain willfully ignorant of) they have, on numerous occasions, not protested against Muslims, but turned their aggression towards anyone brown or asian (White muslims confuse the poo poo out of them. They get called "race traitors" because, you know, Islam isn't a race.) Recently they've turned this article on it's head and claim that whenever the media uses the term "asian" they actually mean "muslim". So their ignorance is justified due to their ignorance. It's rather brilliant in a "Be so block-headedly stupid that people give up arguing with you" kind of way. Now... correct me if I'm wrong, but the use of the term Asian is different in the states than it is in the UK. Here "Asian" can apply to anyone east of the western Russian border. Including Indians, Arabs right through to Chinese and Japanese. IIRC the American usage of the word "Asian" applies specifically to Japanese/Chinese (what the Brits might call Oriental) Either way. In australia it usually means south east asia, up to china and mongolia, and basically dudes that look like that. Whereas indians and pakistanis tend to be called "indians" , and middle eastern dudes are just middle eastern or "arab". Tellingly people of indian descent from malaysia etc will still be called preferentially "indian". Its a "race" term, but like most race terms , doesnt stand up to too much formal scrutiny. People will understand you and wont be surprised or anything when you say indians are asian, but its not normally how its used here.

Being a far right politician, surely he has convictions for the usual (assault, harassment, inciting racial hatred, vandalism, etc) which bar him from standing? So they'll say he is disqualified due to previous convictions (it's politicial correctness gone mad Stu! Just because I stabbed somebody for looking at me funny while being darker than beige on the dulux colour chart I can't be a police commissioner) and then spend five grand on producing leaflets about how the muslamics want to destroy Great Britain and burn the Queen in some sort of wicker man using their death rays to enslave us all.
