I get the vibe that Nocturne focuses a lot more on really capturing that mellowed out, retro dreampop atmosphere. Listening to Gemini and then the Golden Haze EP I feel like he's integrated electronic sounds very well into Nocturne and kind of matured his sound? 'Counting Days' is one of my favorites from the album and you can distinctly hear the cheesy synths kick up in it. I don't think it has the caliber of songs like 'Live In Dreams' or 'Summer Holiday' on it, but it's definitely a good piece of work. I personally think 'The Blue Dress' is a little unimaginative, and 'Only Heather' is really lame, but overall I'm liking the album as a night drive track list and a continuation of Jack Tatum's musical progression. Check out 'Shadow', 'Counting Days', 'Nocturne', and 'Paradise' if you're interested. Those are my recommendations. I'm gonna give it a couple more listens Also, that King Tuff album that released in May is so loving good. If you guys didn't hit my link on the last page or so you should check 'em out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzZfN3EQSxM On another note, Beach Fossils is working on new material and I'm super excited to hear what they come out with. Oshiin really surprised me by how well they were able to do the whole underwater gimmick thing without it being too much (aside from the stupid titles). I'm also usually a sucker for 80s post punk revival stuff that's actually good anyway.

It's more Spoon than Wolf Parade, which might help it be a little more accessible, too, I guess? I'd barely call that a rant, it was a pretty mild mannered message. "Hey, Spotify is a neat service but it gets us next to nothing. Please buy our record at an independent store" Seems fair to me.

I think it was Somethingawful that introduced me to Islands, these guys were really great before a major band member left, I think he wrote most of the songs. A lot their songs are depressing but have up-beat vibes: 'Ones' http://grooveshark.com/s/Ones/1hpUtJ?src=5 'Tender Torture' http://grooveshark.com/s/Tender+Torture/3Szj83?src=5 While playing some 'Islands' and turning the radio button on, I was introduced to this song by 'Kopecky Family Band', anyone heard of them? I think she has a really beautiful voice. http://grooveshark.com/s/Birds/3O61Oi?src=5 Sorry if I broke some thread rules.

They also did a pretty cool interview over at Aquarium Drunkard. Check it out. Interesting that they say they don't really like the comparison to Bowie and the Stones, which is basically how I describe it to people. Oh well.

Well that's why she's second in the billing, though her style come across in the dynamics and song structure somewhat. I would imagine when working with David Byrne it's hard to have a distinctive voice and not just be glad to work with him and start deferring your ideas everywhere. In fact, I think that the fact that it doesn't sound like either of their solo work too much is one of the best strengths of the album. I always felt the Byrne/Eno stuff felt like Eno was serving as more of a "producer who was allowed to contribute musically" more than anything else. I have to say this is the first time in a few years where I immediately re-listened to an album after it was over, and the first time I can remember where I've done it after the second time through.

I didn't think the new Grizzly Bear was very good after a couple of listens, but I think it needs time. This has been a running theme for me this year though, a bunch of artist I've loved in the last half decade have put out new albums that seem completely underwhelming to me. Didn't see it mentioned yet but Two Door Cinema Club released Beacon, their second album, over the weekend. It's a bit of a surprise: after they released "Sleep Alone" I assumed the sound would be pretty close, but it's more of a departure than I expected. Definitely feels like an evolution. "Handshake" and "Pyramid" jumped out at me on first listen. iTunes is selling it with a bonus 12th track, too, and there's a deluxe version that includes 14 concert tracks. Worth a listen, especially if you liked Tourist History but thought it was a bit same-y.
