I apologize if this has been covered somewhere...but I've never jailbroken an iPhone (I've rooted tons of Android phones), so before I go down this road, I want to make sure I can accomplish what I want (I did a search and browsed through the results, but I didn't see anything) - I have Sprint, and where I live/work/drive the most has AWFUL data speeds. I am looking to accomplish one of two things - 1. Force roaming to another network (preferably to one of the Sprint "Extended 3G" agreements, but even when I roam on Verizon 2G I get better data speeds) 2. Make it easier to force back to Spring 3G when it inevitably kicks me down to Sprint 2G. Can this be done via Jailbreak...or am I just dreaming? I realize that too much roaming will likely result in Sprint kicking me off my contract...and I'm OK with that. I plan on ditching them in a few months anyhow, so a little early won't kill me...at this point, I just can't take the awful data coverage anymore, and I'm looking for a way to tide me over for a little while.

Just an FYI: there is an update out for the TIVO app, and now it won't run on a JB device so if you want to keep using it, don't update.

What's the average time between new software/hardware release and untethered jailbreak?

JayKay posted:What's the average time between new software/hardware release and untethered jailbreak? It depends on what exploits can be found. The comex exploit was finally fixed in iOS6, so now hackers have to start searching for new vulnerabilities. The iOS 5/4S jailbreak was released in January this year (and pod2g delayed the software jailbreak to help out the 4S users).

Yea, the only thing preventing from hocking my 4S and getting a 5 on release date is the fact that I'd have to go months without a jailbreak. FolderEnhancer and Infiniboard are straight up necessary, and I'm totally gay for Intelliscreen X.

Russell William Thorpe posted:Ok, not sure if this is a dumb question: does updating to ios 6 un-jailbreak your phone? I believe the "best" way to unjailbreak is to: 1. Backup your phone in iTunes. 2. Use Restore button to update/restore iOS. 3. Once it's finished installed, point iTunes to backup created in step 1. 4. Wait. 5. You now have an unjailbroke iPhone, but setup just the way you had it while it was jailbroken. (Pretty much just the way it was before , anyway!) Read best as ensures your phone looks like it did before going stock. edit: Xenomorph posted:The term "unjailbreak" isn't accurate. The term "unjailbreak" isn't accurate. You can't un-jailbreak as their is no method that removes the jailbreak data and re-patches the system to remove root access. When you Restore, the device is basically formatted and has a clean operating system installed.

Reminder, if you have 5-icon Dock installed, or any JB app that changes how folders work, you're going to want to uninstall them all, THEN do your iCloud/iTunes backup before updating. If you don't, all your icons will be spilled all over the loving place when you're updated to iOS 6. I speak from experience

I have a 5.1.1 iPhone 4S. Do I need a Gevey to unlock? I thought I could do it via software with the tutorials I found. But I have my phone on eBay right now advertising that I'm selling it unlocked. So, if I need to get a Gevey, I need to buy one asap before I ship my phone next weekend.

To keep my phone safe when iOS 6 comes out I don't need to do anything special right? Just simply don't update?

You could always use tinyumbrella to save your SHSH blobs so that if you did accidentally update you could downgrade back to 5.1.1. Edit: but yeah, pretty much don't update and you'll be fine.

I took my phone in to get replaced once and completely forgot I had jailbroken it. I had a cydia icon right on the first page, too. The genius took it to the back, witnessed the problem it had and then gave me a new one. Maybe they don't care.

If you can it's always worth restoring to factory settings before you go in anyway because for most issues that's the first thing they'll have you do anyway.

If it's an AT&T version there are people on ebay that will unlock it for $10.00 and they're legit. No need to mess with Gevey and it is permanent. If you have a Verizon or Sprint phone I wouldn't recommend selling it unlocked because the person buying it will probably update iOS and lose the unlock and that may cause trouble for you.

I am jailbroken on a 4S, when iOS6 comes down the pipe today, can I do the OTA update straight away, or do I have to do some restoration/etc before updating to 6? Not concerned about losing my JB and such. Between iCloud and Datadeposit, I'm set on backups as well.

So when I open Cydia and see the list of SHSH versions, that means I can restore back to those if I upgrade my OS correct? I've never used tiny umbrella, but I'm assuming I don't need to. Is this correct?

BUT: MuscleNerd just tweeted this : "As long as you have your 5.1.1 blobs, new redsn0w will let you RE-restore to 5.1.1 at will. Even better news for iPad2'ers w/4.3.3 blobs " So at least that's comforting. I'd still get TinyUmbrella loaded up and save your poo poo if you can, just in case.
