I found it to be really ugly and awkward looking. I have no nostalgia for the Classic series, so hearing "It's just like Megaman 2!" made me think of even less of it.

I agree a sequel to Powered Up would be super cool, though. While we're dreaming, how about Maverick Hunter X2? The first one was kinda mediocre, but only because MMX was such an incredibly solid game to begin with it made the changes look worse by comparison. It would be cool to see what they could've done with X2, which in my opinion was a much weaker game.
I really enjoyed Powered Up and its playable Robot Masters. Speaking of playable Robot Masters, if I had to go pipe-dreaming about Mega Man projects, I'd go with a full-fledged fighting game that springboards off Power Battle/Fighters. I loved the mix of fighting game and platformer, and a game like that could have insane replay value with more playable characters and more to do.

Disregarding the graphics, if it would have come out and done well, it may have led up to a Mega Man X Universe. The graphics might have needed some tweaking, but I kinda like it.

I'd love that. A Mega Man fighting game is the crossover that should have happened. Throw in the Mega Mans and Robot Masters from all the different eras and really beef up what they had going from Power Battle/Fighters.

Back to Capcom hate chat, the only games they like to even bring out into the West these days are Resident Evils and Street Fighters. I'm sure that Dragon's Dogma had to be sneaked out from under their nose.

It's not a graphics issue, it's an art direction issue. poo poo was hideous. Everything moved awkwardly and looked off, the Mega Man redesign was wack, and it seemed to be way too reliant on the Mega Man 2 visual direction for the assets, which severely limited the appeal for me as well. It also didn't look like the level design options were very strong. The idea of a modular mega man game where you can play as a ton of characters and make your own stages is great, but absolutely none of the actual game looked good at all.

And I really don't think it makes sense to look at a game and ignore its flaws because its success could possibly lead to another game that would have the same flaws that we'd have to ignore as well because ????

Yeah I mentioned wanting a MHX2 as well. Like, really badly. If only to see snazzy new artwork for some of my favorite Mavericks in the series. (I'm looking at you, Overdrive Ostrich)

I'd be sad to see Megaman go that way, the fans just drifting away because nothing new is out there to discuss.

There's already nothing new to discuss, unless we want to rage some more about Capcom canceling Mega Man games.

I can't disagree more with the idea that 'Something is better than Nothing' when it comes to a long running franchise. That's the sort of mindset that leads to games like Other M, Nu-DmC, Operation Racoon City, Armored Core 5, and Mega Man X6-7. Capcom has already shown zero interest in the property, their efforts of late are pure garbage (MMX iOS) or aren't even getting released. It's better if the series at least dies with a whimper, rather than in the wake of explosive diarrhea pressed into disc/cartridge form. Who knows? Maybe after a decade, the franchise could get a (under-appreciated and hotly debated) revival like Kid Icarus did. That'd be preferable to whatever cheap cash-in Capcom thinks might be a good idea.

What makes the situation with Mega Man so much more frustrating is that Capcom literally set the franchise up to die. If that's how it has to be, so be it. I don't particularly trust them to get the games right anymore. If I want to play Mega Man, I'll throw in the appropriate collection disc/card in my system of choice, and call it a day.

Didn't SenBa 3 come out pretty much untouched in 2010? I haven't heard anything more about it for either Japan or the West, so I assume it bombed universally. Doesn't really compare to Mega Man, since everyone from Inafune to Sven said MM9 and MM10 beat expectations.

It has Mega Man style gameplay with the Viewtiful Joe aesthetic, and at one point the President of the United States goes up against a cross between Guts Man and the Incredible Hulk.

I think this is a strong step in the right direction. I just hope the game is actually good.

Actually, the expansion for SenBa 3 launched last November in Japan and did well, last I heard. Plus, the HD collection was just released in Japan, and the bundle of both SenBa 3 and said expansion was released in June....In Japan.

Keiji Inafune making a Megaman-like game is closer to what I want than what's left of Capcom making an actual Megaman game. I don't see the problem here aside from touch controls (which can be circumvented, right?)

Since it was an SNES game, they replaced the DPad and controller buttons with on-screen buttons.

I feel the same way. Cancelling Legends 3 was a shame but I wasn't torn up about it since my only experience with the Legends games was playing a little of the N64 version when I was a kid. I still have a lot of Mega Man games to finish on the Classic and X collections, and I still haven't gotten the Zero Collection, so there's still a lot of Mega Man for me to play.

Not to say that you shouldn't want another Mega Man game, I just feel like I don't care about having a new one just yet.

I just want capcom to just even remotely try to look like they're giving an active gently caress about proceedings.

Also, the sheer arrogance in their statement asking fans to "Keep your expectations in check" is blinding.

At the rate this is going, Archie is going to loving well be the ones to do the story for Legends 3 and I'm going to have to import a Japanese copy of EX Troopers whilst capcom work on making RE even more generic.

I wouldn't have a problem with Capcom as much if they stopped hyping the gently caress out of their games that are bound to be cancelled. They blue-balled their consumers twice(?) in the past couple years.

If they're not going to commit, don't release any goddamn information. They can't possibly live up to the consumer expectation now unless they create something unique, and now they're planning on releasing a lovely iPhone game with a pseudo-Duke Nukem approach because mobile gamers is where it's at. Wasn't their whole loving argument, "The fans just aren't there anymore?" That company is the epitome of hypocrisy.

vvv: They meant there's more than one mascot that made Capcom what they are.

Bwahaha point take with all the other mascots of Capcom being pointed out. Well I know it was more in jest. Honestly if ain't fighting, Capcom doesn't care.

So not sure where Ryu/Chun Li comes from, their games are getting plenty of exposure and I wouldn't be surprised if there is another SFVHDT2E whatever the gently caress they keep adding.

edit: If you meant mascots of capcom, well duh. There is plenty of those.
