Just got back from a 1pm showing, thoroughly enjoyed it... Did everything right that the '95 got wrong, and even if I still think the Stallone MC1 was truer to the books, I can overlook it for eveything else being pitch perfect. Also, just because I can

God damned it. This doesnt come out untill Oct25th in Australia. They dropped the ball a bit on distribution here as with such a wait a lot of people are far more likely to simply pirate it rather then wait that long. Im still going to wait it out for JUDGMENT IN THREE DEE but its going to be irritating as this thread grows with more and more praise. I am really surprised at how this movie is getting 90% on rotten tomatoes. are the trailers a poor indication of how great this movie is? because the trailer doesnt make it seem that amazing.

Amazing is the wrong word I think. I'd go with "solid". It doesent attempt to overreach and just focuses on a tight, compact story with 80s style ott violence.

The trailer doesn't inspire confidence much which isn't going to get bums* on seats but those bums that do get on the seats tend to be very entertained bums by the time they leave. Those bums then tell other bums who end up going along and enjoying it greatly. *butts

Are you guys kidding? The trailer is all like "generic future movie with drugs and slow motion... yeah yeah.." then suddenly JUDGMENT IS COMING and its all just gently caress YES. So trailer wins in my opinion.

Went to see this for the second time with a different group of friends. Everyone really enjoyed it except for having to see the 3D version since the cinema didn't give us a choice. Just seen it, and is it supposed to take place in a version of the 'regular' Dredd universe or an alternate one? It has a really different vibe to it, far more postapocalyptic, and I'm wondering what the backstory is- for example, why the blocks now seem to be build as giant air-raid shelters rather than just eighties high-rises taken to grotesque extremes.

Honestly can't remember the last time I was this excited for a movie release. I'm crossing the days off on my calander and it's going veeeeery slooooowwwwwly. For those who are looking into getting Dredd case files/trades you should know that 2000 AD has so much more awesome stuff than just Dredd in it. Having read 2000 AD for so long I'd make some other recommendations for you too. Slaine: Barbarian fantasy like Conan but with Celts. Apart from them though, we literally are third last on the globe. Of course, when this kind of delay happened it just had to be on the movie whose big star is coming down to Melbourne on the 13th.

Well there's the "banned, may never be reprinted on pain of death lawsuits from McDonald's, Burger King, General Mills, etc" thing, which is a bit double edged. On one hand it's certainly not  , since the original distributor is banned from ever making any money off of it, but on the other hand since it was deemed copyright infringement to begin with, showing them here is like double copyright infringement.And that's ten years in the cubes.

Heh, my favourite part about Judge Death really is how he gets loose one time, I can't remember from which story though. A walled in hermit, getting food from a small pipe leading into his cell meditates and finally attains nirvana, His psyche taking a big metaphorical leap into another dimension. One that Judge Deaths soul was trapped in. Welp.

Thanks for the info mate, I really need to borrow that one at the library again. And the story is written by Alan Grant. It's kind of funny really, one of the best ever comics I've read really is a Judge Dread spin off featuring Judge Anderson. Just looked through my bookcases and couldn't find the magazine it was in. I found a lot of old progs and judge dread mags but not the one I was looking for.  Well the short story is basically a suicide note from one of Andersons colleagues that just can't take it anymore after being saved by a dying whale, the last one of them. edit: found it. It's called "Judge Corey: Leviathans farewell" and it was in The complete Judge Dredd Special Edition no 2 from '95. Man, Alan Grant can really pluck on my heart strings at times. Incidentally it involves an armed sugar smuggling ring. That mag contains a lot of other stories but there is one other that really stands out; "Judge Dredd: John Cassavetes is dead". It's about an old man that Dredd and a few other Judges makes a random crime blitz on. And they discover that he has a lot of old books and publications. Also written by Alan Grant.
