You don't really need a monster of a machine to run GTAIV. You DO need a quadcore, which you have. You should be fine.

When this came out, I ran it on an overclocked dual-core and 8800gt at the Xbox 360 equivalent settings. Similar to this.
The systems in the past few posts should easily run the game pretty much maxed out.

I had an E8500 Core2Duo ( 3.16GHz ), a GTX 260, 4GB Ram and had fantastic performance.

When it first came out on pc I had an e8400, 4gb, 8800gt and it ran with the graphics higher than consoles, but not a ton. Shortly after I switched to an i7 920 with 6gb ram and it ran much better. Much later I got a gtx 560 which could basically max out settings, so I'm hoping to get similar quality out of GTA5 despite the larger environment. I'm just not looking forward to having to suffer through the console graphics for the first ~6 months.

Hey you know what would ease that pain a bunch? Replaying RDR on pc :P

It is never going to happen due to the spaghetti code holding that game together on consoles. Bringing it across would be a massive and expensive undertaking.

Look at all these lovely posts!
Are there any mods that are considered mandatory for GTA 3, VC, and SA? I'm looking to play these on Big Picture mode so I'm mainly worried about using the 360 controller and any weird glitches. Maybe a good high-res mod but that's not necessary.

For GTA3 and VC I would recommend the Xbox texture pack. Helps a little bit and should be really easy to find via google.

Honest to god I just wish someone had a definitive guide to getting SA working. I can't get the graphics mods working or the Xbox controller, and even I just go vanilla the graphics are an awful mess. Everyone says its super easy but I just can't get it working at all :( I'm at the point where I would happily pay for mods or programs they worked if I knew they would.

Xbox Texture Pack as mentioned, there's a mod called GTAFOV or something that fixes the aiming being 'off' in widescreen (didn't work for me so I just aim for everyone's right foot), 10x Distance mod and force AA and AF through your graphics card if you've got any sort of graphical horsepower.

e: Oh yeah, I posted my results earlier in the thread if you fancy a look.

Also thought one of the last comments about how Rockstar became pretty ham-fisted/lazy with their efforts to offend and push boundaries post-GTA3 was pretty much spot-on.

I recently started playing GTA IV again and I had a question about the radio stations. Every single time I get into a car when I start the game or start or finish a mission, the stations Electro-Choc, The Classics, and Massive B always start over. They aren't completely random like the other stations I've noticed.

Is there a reason for this? I wouldn't really care that much but I actually like Electro-Choc and The Classics.

I always assumed it was because those stations are one long track instead of multiple tracks with commercials in between.

magda, make the tea
The stations have a few key points and whenever you get in a car it starts playing from one at random. I think you just got the same point a few times in a row.
I don't know why they couldn't keep the stations running when outside of a car, it's a stupid system.

Also if you get out of your car by holding the button/key for more than a split second the car shuts off. If you tap it your car remains on and youll be able to hear the radio being played outside of the car and when you get into your next car it should be the same station/same point. Otherwise theres a good chance the radio will be another station and the playing points are reset.

Fun fact: When you turn the engine off if you listen closely you can hear the engine tick like you do in real life, whatever the heck that sound is.

Looks like the year-long info drought is finally coming to an end, Game Informer is going to have GTA V on it's cover:

The fiscal year is whatever anyone wants it to be.

I guess it depends on how far the game is along. If they tell us it's far enough, we could see it February. But if it's more "now that we have something worth showing" then yeah, May, June.

I'm having a hard time considering any GTA game to be "highbrow". The one that tried that the most, IV, is the one everyone hates.

I barely remember 3 at all, I've tried to replay it but always go "gently caress this, I could be replaying Vice City instead".

I've still never played Liberty/Vice City Stories, are the PC ports of those good?

I've been playing for about 4 or 5 days now and it still happens, not just a few times in a row unfortunately. Oh well, I could always just go into a Pay 'N Spray and that usually moves the music a little.

As Install Gentoo said, only PS2/PSP. I recently picked up a PSP and both of these games for it. Essentially it's more GTA III era gameplay and story, which isn't a bad thing.

I've gotten into Vice City Stories a bit, and it has a (and I'm pretty sure LCS has the same) gameplay element in which you capture and manage businesses throughout town to make money. Kind of like the story of Vice City mixed with the gang wars stuff in San Andreas.

Edited: Oh, and I've been playing GTA Chinatown Wars. This is kind of special to me since it was my first GTA game back on NDS. Now I've got it for PSP. Feels like some kind of HD remake, really.

Edit for content:
So yeah, there ya' go. Obviously the game is quite a ways away if they're asking for suggestions. I didn't really find the crews in Max Payne 3 to be groundbreaking by any means so hopefully GTA V can bring something interesting and fresh to the multiplayer. Maybe it can be more like gangs in the earlier GTA so each gang can choose its own custom vehicles and weapons. Kind of like a load-out in a FPS but with custom decals and rims on a car or a silencer or scope on a rifle.
