Smasher Dynamo
Oct 16, 2008

Eternal Commissioner of the Super League. A new avatar. A new age, of the same old embittered Smasher that failed to escape the bonds of the SL, FM3, Johnny Hopp and Eri Yoshida "The Knuckle Princess". "The flames of Smasher's ire scorch the skies... Igniting St. Bellhorn's funeral pyre."
As you may or may not know, the Dynamo League and Smasher League have separate save files this season. The main upshot for you is that the finals, for logistical reasons, will need to either use the DH in every game, or not use it in any game.

Now that's not really a problem, after all, that was the rule in real baseball from 1976-1985, and it's not like we think any of those series are tainted.

Well, I guess Cardinals fans still bitch about '85, but that's for completely different reasons.

Anyway, I suppose we could flip a coin, or give the advantage to the team with the better record in the regular season but that's not really the baseball way, is it? No, I think the only reasonable choice is to have a seven game all-star series to determine the winners.

But how to pick the all-star teams? Once again, the MLB provides the answers. We'll use the following rules:

-You'll vote for starters from a list of nominees that I choose. (And you don't need to be an owner to vote, anyone can).

-In picking the nominees, I've only chosen one copy of each player.

-Oh, and you have to pick a manager for each team, who will arrange the lineups and bullpen a such.

-The Managers, in consultation with me, will pick the pitchers and reserves.

-Every team must have at least member on the 25-man roster, so I'll have to pick reserves according to those rules.

-For the sake of the all-star series, since no one goes to all-star games, even fantasy, fantasy ones, to see the pitcher hit, we'll use DH rules for that series.

-Have fun!

Analysis

When Shawkey comes off the injured list, it's probably time to put him in over Vance.

Unfortunately so. However, I also think this an opportunity to try out that thing I got told not to do:

As soon as Shawkey is healthy, bring him up for Kern. He'll take Vance's spot in the rotation. In the bullpen, move Smoltz to closer, bumping everyone down a slot. The hole at long relief created by Kern should be filled by Vance.

Also, have McGriff spell Thomas for the Losers series.

I was hoping to get the pick because of the flexibility it offers, but I totally understand your desire to hang onto it. Would you be willing to move just Feliz for Hafner?

If you're really excited about the pick we can talk about one of your other 1Bs. Upgrading to a slightly better platoon left 1B doesn't excite me, but you have some righty bats that absolutely do.

: Okay, Episode 2: Day of the Dunn, Part 2. So, Adam Dunn is getting beat down by the Three True Outcomes when suddenly, out of nowhere, a time portal opens and Cyber-Dunn steps out. The Outcomes aren't sure what to do, so they try attacking him, but Cyber-Dunn's too strong for that and he makes them run with his laser cannons and energy saber...metric. Mark Reynolds, who's the weakest, gets totally humiliated by Cyber-Dunn so they all run away. Anyway, so then Cyber-Dunn explains to Adam Dunn that he's the future-Dunn, who comes from a world where he failed to stop Richie Sexson from taking over. So, the future sucks, and he feels guilty that he couldn't stop it. So, to make things right, he's come back in time and is going to mentor present Adam Dunn. Present Dunn asks why it's up to him to save the world, and then Cyber-Dunn explains that he is the Chosen Dunn that must bring balance to the sabermetrics, and that he must learn the ways Adam Dunn says he doesn't understand but then, suddenly, they are attacked by Dante Bichette, who says that "It's time for you to Rocky Mountain Die!" To Be Continued!

Games of the Week

Don May posted:

RANCE MULLINIKS DOOMS GOOSE EGGS, NO ONE SURPRISED

Miami- For the first eight weeks of the season, the biggest story in the Vice City clubhouse has been why team owner Armitage has been so steadfast in including Rance Mulliniks in his starting lineup against right-handed pitchers. It made seemingly no sense, with Mulliniks not even being good enough to start regularly in real life, that he should be allowed to play as much as he has.

Today, it came to a head as Mulliniks made two errors in a single inning, leading to three unearned runs scoring, and ultimately costing the Goose Eggs another game. In a season full of disappointments for Armitage's team, this may have been the most crushing as it pushed the Goose Eggs even further into the cellar of the Skyhawks Memorial Division, as the team is now a full eleven games behind the division leader Eazy W's.

Rance Mulliniks, whose blunders and poor play have done much to bury the Goose Eggs, was overcome by emotion after the game, "I know I suck! Believe me! I've seen my stats, they're not good! I've had hitting coaches analyze my swing and then they ask me if I'm really sure I'm a baseball player and not just an insurance salesman posing as a baseball player as some sort of fantasy camp. But I'm not! I'm just a really, really bad baseball player! And I'm soooooooo sorry! I don't even really have an astro-cycle! I just want to go home!"

QUASI-LOVABLE LOSERS MUDHOLES TAKE 3-1 WIN AGAINST MATHEMATICIANS

Madison- The Mudholes have some things going for them. Probably. No one's quite sure what they are, unfortunately.

Today's Mudholes' victory, their 15th in 46 tries, was attended by less than 5,000 people, filling up less than one-sixth of their stadium. theacox, however, saw it as progress, "No one said building a franchise in Madison would be easy. After all, when it's summer, and people actually want to go see games, the university's mainly closed, so no one's around, and when the school's open, the weather sucks or people just want to see the Badgers fizzle out again. And, I'm not going to lie, sometimes it feels like I don't know what I'm doing. But, you know what, when life gives you lemons, you mix in some vodka and make hard lemonade. I can't change the culture of Madison, but I can accept it, and that's why, in order to better ingratiate myself with the pretend-intellectuals that own this town, I am changing our stadium's name to Che Guevara Memorial Stadium. Also, more indie rock, I guess? And we'll stop carding people trying to buy beer. Come on, Madisonians! Meet me halfway, drat it!"

The Mathematicians, who combine the razzle-dazzle of Englishmen and the excitement of mathematics, were probably disappointed with today's game, though it is hard to tell. "Certainly the result is not precisely what we intended," began Revenant Threshold, who is either the most stoic man alive or some sort of reanimated corpse that has lost its ability to express human emotion, "but I believe that, as the season is 162 games long, that it is foolish to expect a victory in every game. Indeed, such temporary setbacks are to be expected. However, we will play another game tomorrow, and I expect that the result has an excellent chance of being different. End Communication." Revenant Threshold then stood there impassively for fifteen minutes before several players from his team brought in a handcart and wheeled him out.

CULTISTS LEVEL LANDERS 18-8

Moonbase 0-2- That got bad fast.

The Cultists gashed the Landers' bullpen for 15 runs in the last three innings as the Landers saw a 7-3 lead turn into an 18-8 rout before their eyes.

Not that this dramatic turnaround was a surprise to CthulhuDreams, who evidently expected as much, "mrnoun is another one of those old owners who built his team by feel and luck. Most old owners did so, but there aren't many as backward as mrnoun. And, in the old days, that would have been fine, but now that I'm here, with my revolutionary statistics-based method of assembling and managing a Super-League team, free of the taint of emotion, he is obsolete, as is his team. Look at the standings, no team has a better record, and I've achieved this all in a single season. I will let you in on a little secret: This season is already over. No team is going to stop me from winning this division, this league, this entire Super-League. Not even the Macho Men can stop me now. No other team stands a chance. Oh, perhaps one of you will one day give me a run for my money if you follow my advice exactly, but I don't think that any student could defeat the master at this point. No, I dare say that I will be the Super-League Champion for the foreseeable future, and you will all learn to make peace with that."

mrnoun rejected Cthulhu's assertion of eternal dominance, tersely commented, "I will loving bury that kid. I'm going to bury him so loving deep that he ends up back in loving Australia."

Analysis

Twelve games straight! Why question it?

Analysis

Center field is clearly the weak link in your lineup.

Analysis

Do you feel good about robbing the Bearers like that? Bagwell for a 40 year-old starter and a reliever you weren't even using. Larry Andersen would have been kinder.

Analysis

I suppose it is appropriate that a team named the 'Phoenixes' does tend to be up and down.

Analysis

Your first good week in a while but you aren't going anywhere until you deal with the Delahanty situation.

Analysis

Seeing as your a Seahawks fan, I would think that you'd be interested to know in the C/DH glitch that would allow you to effectively bat Gibson twice if you assign him as the personal catcher of one or more of your starters. It's a total cheat, but, well, Golden Tate would approve.

Analysis

I really do hate that Chuck Knoblauch isn't killing your team. Very frustrating. Then again, given how the pitchers you got from Cthulhu are tanking, it looks like your trades aren't, on the whole, working out for you anyway.

Analysis

Let's give it a bit more time before I rule on your Pedro challenge.

Analysis

Braun needs more HGH.

Analysis

Okay...uh...want to go back to your normal lineup now?

Analysis

Above .500 again thanks to Zach Wheat and the Double Jack (Clark) Attack. Now, if only Tim Lincecum could straighten himself out. Ironically, of course, the real-life Giants are hoping for the same thing.

Analysis

Matt Williams may be too much of a free-swinger to be anything more than a platoon bat. I'm not sure that's the case, but I'm starting to think it's what's happening.

Analysis

You guys aren't going to die easy, are you?

Analysis

Yoshida has the most innings pitched out of any of your relievers. I don't know that that's a good thing.

Analysis

That third base spot is a black hole right now.

Analysis

Let's hope benching Rance turns things around.

The mills of Lincecum grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly small. Hopefully. That paraphrasing may have been an attempt to get a nice segue into praising Wheat which I couldn't actually work out well enough, or it might not.

Anyway, that looks plausibly like Vaughan is back now, which will call for some rearranging now that others have rested and after I figure out why my desperation roster has clawed us back up to second.
