Crazy theory time: John finds Calliope! Why? Because she's the only character that has recently 'died' and would thus be newly chilling in the dream bubbles, which would fit with this being the lead-in to Hussie's dream bubble arrival. Additionally, John has no idea what is going on with Calliope, or even Lord English, and really knows the least of any of the non-B2 characters, so wouldn't it be perfect if he was the first one to find her in the dream bubbles, and just doesn't understand the significance of it? For further fun, the previous speculation that dream bubble Calliope is actually her fantroll also turns out to be true, adding further layers of confusion to John's inability to truly know anything, ever. Alternatively, "John, will you human marry me????????"

I do love the effort and craft that goes into showing John raising an eyebrow at a few horses. Homestuck is so much fun because there can be metric shittons of character development and plot and other goings on all swirling about and then we take a break for a day or two to look at some horses in the desert.

Hasn't that symbol also appeared earlier in the comic? When someone was checking out an image of earth, it was superimposed over the top of the planet? I wonder if hussie's really been sneaking it into the comic all this time as part of the longest hidden visual reference ever

As mentioned that spiral is a watermark from stock photos so it's probably not intentional exactly, although perhaps Hussie decided to do something with a spiral to make use of the "theme".
