ExecuDork posted:Given you didn't set out the video for coaching and driving technique critique, I enjoyed the third shot, especially the water spray. I thought it would work well for a more sophisticated video - those you posted had a definite "experimenting with camera work" feel to them - as a short segment, running for maybe a second or two, in a video otherwise mainly composed of a high-and-behind shot as was suggested by Muffinpox. That requires multiple cameras, of course, as well as figuring out where to mount the camera for a shot like that such that you can still place the front wheel right on cones without the camera knocking them over - the concern isn't for the safety of the camera, it's for your driving line! I've got plenty of fun ideas, i'd love to cut in a shot on the hood as close to the driver as possible, facing right at me, which would block my view nicely but, whatever. I'll split my shots between 2/3rds "fun artsy" shot and 1/3rd "Can see the driver and track" shots and try to make a long compliation video at the end of the season. As far as i was from the cones, and i noticed myself being more jerky with the weight transfer than i remember, do you think i left 5-6 seconds on the course? I mean the guy in front of me wasnt even close, and i'll be bumped to SSM soon. edit: Video link since its a new page. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrAsaPf23rY Flesh Croissant fucked around with this message at 22:53 on Oct 16, 2012 |

Ziploc posted:Your car seems quite a bit oversteer-y. Isn't it destracting? There were moments where the slide was definitely not helping either of you. I don't get distracted by the little wiggles but if the car comes out far enough I need to concentrate on where it is presently vs. where I want it to be which can throw me out of a rhythm. The car is super sensitive to throttle input and will oversteer if you aren't very smooth with the inputs, Saturday being really cold made it so too much throttle whatsoever would send the rear out pretty hard which made driving a bit of a bear.

The artsy stuff is cool, but I'd say put more emphasis on track shots. If I feel like loving with gopro mounts I usually try someting fun for my first 2 (of 4) runs, then switch it over to the view I've had in my last couple videos. Almost every time my fastest run is the last so it's good to see what I did right. I'd love to be consistent but I almost always trim off a huge chunk of time on the last run IF I don't waste it on cones. Crustashio fucked around with this message at 03:05 on Oct 17, 2012 |

Cameras are cheap. Multi-angle dat poo poo. Also, if you put a camera IN the car. Make sure it can see as much as YOU as possible. A lot can be learned from things like hand placement, where your head is turned, etc. This is my go to setup for analyzing my own runs. You can achieve this easily with a two point&shoots (for interior and pedal camera) and a GoPro. And a tiny bit of editing after. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bq-hgJ35ipg

I just put my parking lot cone dodging skills to the test in real life when an elderly driver almost backed into me 2 times in a 10 second period in a parking lot. Jesus loving christ.Ziploc posted:Cameras are cheap. Multi-angle dat poo poo. Yea, seeing what you are doing and then one outside for seeing how far the car is from cones is super helpful. I only run interior shots since I don't want my iPhone to go flying but normally the first thing I do after a run is review and see where I obviously need to go faster/slower/I am late. Hey all, attending my first actual autocross tomorrow (attended a novice autox class earlier this year) and was wondering if my tires will be an issue: No chunking, just worn down. That's fine, right?

They won't care as long as you aren't corded and the sidewalls aren't bubbling. ...I hope those aren't your street tires though.

Yea, theyll only reject tires that are cording, cracked, or have bulges.

No, definitely not my street tires. Thanks!

My clubs last autocross of the season is this weekend and then after that is rally-x season until the ice forms. Our rally-x's are usually done with $300 beater cars, but sadly craigslist has been pretty barren of those lately.

It sadly died after I accidently hit a large ice jump at 40mph.

About the cheapest subaru you can get with a valid inspection sticker here is 1500 so I'm trying to convince friends to go in on it. Share the parts/labour then when summer comes try to resell it. It'd be so much easier if someone had a trailer though, our RallyX club pretty much couldn't give a poo poo what you drive as long as the frame is in decent shape.

Here in central Wisconsin we don't have inspection of any kind so most cars get run into the ground/rust into nothing. It's hard to find anything in decent shape for under even 2,000. We do have a lead on a Crown Vic however.

I went to a Boston BMWCCA event that bsamu told me about and met up with him there. I let another instructor drive my car to see what it could do, I had managed to get a 72.914 with some mistakes and thought the car could probably get into the 70s. Then this happened: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5Ww_XgorZQ And he said he probably made about a second worth of mistakes in there.

My brother used our gopro for the dry morning, so I didn't record my best time (a blazing 77.488) but I managed to get my 4 afternoon runs as the course started to get wet. Here's the first run as the rain was barely starting (81.143): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaO4w1HbVVM and here's the last run (83.781): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufdBwLWqhhc As muffinpox said, the rain was fun to drive in but it was a bit frustrating because I was trying to beat my time from the morning session. I'll try a camera angle from inside the car next time, it'll be nice to have a wider view of the course and less wind noise.

I followed Brigdh's advice, and... promptly hit cones on every run except my last. I also worked on slaloms, because Picton tends to be just about entirely slaloms. The whole smooth, turn earlier bit helped a lot - I was definitely carrying more speed. I also need to get more confident with shifting; there were at least 2 spots where I could have used third. http://youtu.be/_zqLNa_gjUE Run will be done uploading in about 20 minutes.
