When did Portuguese and Spanish commentary diverge so sharply from English commentary? No English commentator ever does the "Goaaaaaaaaaaal" thing. I've watched some dodgy Chinese streams and even they don't do that. It seems like one of those clear lines between cultures but it's odd how it came about.

I don't think Spaniards usually do this though, but Portuguese commentators do it all the time so I would say it started in Brazil or Portugal and then Latin Americans adopted it. I've not seen it linked and had a quick look at the thread but it ruins Chrome for some reason loading all the youtube embedded videos. The FIFA Puskas award shortlist has come out.
