Oh he's only just begun to scar Frederick. Also Miraborg gets a henchman later with scars.

I’d chalk it up to mimicry of medieval symbolism except I don’t think it’s intentional.
You forgot Candace Liao and Justin himself though, both of them are pretty heavily scarred.

Stackpole clearly wasn't too concerned with making sure his huge walls of bad exposition fit within the frame. He did write that scene where Victor explains the Inner Sphere and the Clans to Hohiro and Kai while they were on Strana Mechty.

One thing GW does right is stick the lovely old "THERE IS ONLY WAR RAWR RAWR GRIMDARK!" blurb that's been in every edition of 40k into the first page of their novels, before even the contents.

It's all grimdark. Got that? Good: here's some bolter porn.

Awesome.

Aren't they basically hilarious patent trolls now who haven't ever made a product but basically spend all their time saying "if it's vaguely related to the things we licensed 20 years ago nope you can't do it without paying us 200% of the revenues"?

Because I would imagine if they had reasonable licensing schemes we would still have the Unseen. And, you know, actual Macross releases in America.

Incidentally, has this turn devolved into a fustercluck yet?

That was never an option, I won't force movement, heat, or ammo expenditures on anyone. I will make them move out of the way if someone else ends in a hex they're occupying though. I'm not going to punish players who have their orders in.

Lets do this X-Com style. Roll D6. On a 1 the mech does nothing, on a 2 it hunkers down and goes prone, a 3 it runs away, a 4 it charges towards the enemy, 5 it alpha strikes the nearest enemy, and a 6 it alpha strikes the nearest teammate... And you will always roll a 6.

I rolled 10 sets of 4 dice. The number '6' came up 9 times (22%). Statistically, it should be at 16%. My sample size is too small to make any sort of judgement but from inferential experience I'd say a few of my dice are a bit unevenly balanced.
