how do I get in touch with rappers that don't suck? I have enough beats to make a full length album. and that is something I would like to do. I need a consultant or something.

I've had some luck with the site futureproducers but, like with any other site, it's a crap shoot finding an artist that is really trying to put in work on an album. You could also check reverbnation to find someone locally.

I need a consultant or something. go to shows and chat it up with the artists afterward. i did that and was lucky enough to fall in with the local hip hop crowd; problem is i was pretty much an abstract electronic music producer and while i listened to a lot of hip hop and had produced a couple tracks with a rapper i couldn't really provide the type of instrumentals they prefer to rap on. i played a show they helped me get and one guy was going to do a track with me, but that's been about it for a while. i feel lucky to have a music scene around here like that at all but i still haven't really found my people. workin on it!

whoknew posted:samples are fun, production is lush, i enjoyed the raps; great work thanks! i am trying to do more like BSBD kinda poo poo with a lot more reverb and washes and space also here is an interesting thing - i recorded all the vocals to a click-track before i even started thinking about a beat and then i kinda went in and made the beat afterwards, like 'remixing' my own acapella, led to a diff approach and poo poo. it's fun to shake things up like that

ALi posted:what sort of rapper are you into? who do you listen to? let's talk about it Well I don't know if I'd call my sound "classic" but I have a variety of beats made completely from vinyl that I could make into a cohesive, full length project. I'm mostly interested in one person that would complement them. I like the idea of one producer and one rapper. I have a few songs I've made with one other guy rapping and a girl who sang on them, but I can't squeeze that much work out of them. nor does the guy really have the content/sound I want.

http://satellitehigh.bandcamp.com/album/radd-axxion here's my latest 'ep' or whatever, it's just a bunch of songs i've been recording over the last week for no real reason some if it is very loving weird, some of it you have heard already hahaha ----- mitchfm - i like that better than the last one but i get this vibe from your stuff where it seems like 'pieces' instead of a whole track, like the bassline and the drums and stuff all very detached from each other, i think it's a mix issue cuz everything is so dry, but it sounds more like "a bass track" and "a drum track" than it does a finished composition imo
|
# ? Nov 1, 2012 17:28 |

Try and use a gate on your bass and chain it with your kick-drum, it should help it "complete" it a lil better. Doesn't have to be anything extravagant, something like a 2-3 DB difference will do. Also your synths are hella plain, the melodies and all are all cool, but they end up sounding a bit dry. Try and play with the oscilation or add some reverb/delay/chorus. Again, try and send all of your poo poo through a reverb return track, it'll help everything stick together.

Good looking on that feedback Im using Reason and stock patches so everything is 'DRY', I am going to try that reverb return effect tonight. As far as it being more snippets then finished compositions thats cause Im really just learning alot in terms of construction, melody, poo poo just plain ol putting a whole track together start from finish. Thanks for the tips though be back with something.

I redid an old song but listening to it again a few days later I really need to change up the drums. http://soundcloud.com/grungerdude91/preschool-hour-of-the-witch-1 This one is newer but I can't really tell if its working or not. Should I cut the delay on the flute sample? Also how the hell do I let the separate trax breath while also being gritty and thick? I have no idea how to describe what the sound I'm looking for is but that solid brick waveform makes me uncomfortable. http://soundcloud.com/grungerdude91/preschool-dolls

behringer truth active, or KRK's or Alesis M1 spend $500 and you are going to get 8" speakers which you want, or get a cheap pair of 5" woofers and buy a seperate sub, depending on your needs here's what i have: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/B2031A/ these are cheap http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BX8D2/ can't vouch for these http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ResolvA8/

I could swing around 500 which from looking at the stuff you guys mentioned is probably what you have to spend, then. I'll have to save up a bit but thanks for the recs guys. I like those Truth ones cause they seem to have more fiddly bits you can gently caress with, and my room(s) are probably acoustically poo poo. I don't know what the measure of my living room is, but it's probably like around 10' deep and 20' wide?

yeah if you have a small room that's not padded, going for anything over 5 or 6 inches would be a waste of potential and money

does anyone have advice as to how to make basslines stand out on? I'm basically using a slightly tweaked synth generator in FL studio, but i'm unable to hear it on lovely speakers.

I'm basically using a slightly tweaked synth generator in FL studio, but i'm unable to hear it on lovely speakers. you got a lot of choices. basically if you can't hear it it's doesn't mean it's not good, but making good basslines without proper monitors is next to impossible (headphones usually have basses boosted so they're not really reliable). if you really wanna be able to hear it octave it one up and tweak your synths like that one of the way to make it pumpier/punchier is to gate it with the kick drum a couple of DBs. distortion/saturation is also good get yourself a real bass synth also, something like Arturia's Minimoog, Sylenth, or NI Massive, having a good synth to start with will make a world of difference
