I asked why my phone got shut off, he said "It looks like you were flagged during an audit as being ineligible for your current plan. If you would like, I can transfer you to what is called our 'SERO premium' plan. It will be a bit more money, but still a fantastic deal." Dude got a survey with all 5's from me for sure.

It used to be the sprint employee referral offer, not retention. It was originally a perk sprint employees could give to friends, and it required a name and an ID #. I think employees were limited to a finite number of referrals each month, 25 or 50? Then sprint was trying to improve its customer service image by interacting with the consumerist blog. They started out giving consumerist readers a special customer service number, then they offered readers the SERO plan using a name with unlimited activations. Then fatwallet publicized the deal and it exploded in popularity, but sprint's churn was so bad at the time they allowed it to continue. Speculation was that they were using SERO to drive up subscriber numbers to improve stock prices in order to finance what turned out to be the clear wire deal and wimax. Once their customer numbers were up they started driving SERO customers to more profitable plans. EPRP replaced SERO as the friends perk. Which is where I thought things were today. If they are back to offering SERO that is pretty big news.

My bet is the poster is actually on EPRP, not SERO, since it endsd up being a tiny bit more expensive than his now-defunct employee discount plan.

I was on EPRP about this time last year and was talking to a nice woman at sprint about my lack of signal at my new rental home. She gave me an airrave and put me in SERO. It does happen. Edit: That being said, can you actually legitimately sell a SERO account? I'll probably be jumping ship here soon. poxin fucked around with this message at 22:28 on Nov 2, 2012 |

I apologize I got it's history a little wrong, that being said employees leaving Sprint and friends and family that were on SWAC accounts are eligible for SERO. What I was getting at is that the plan is still alive and well with people getting added to it all the time. You just can't get it anymore when threatening to cancel like you used to.

The catch is that the account liability falls on the employee who sponsors you. If you deadbeat on the plan, he ends up with the ETF. Similarly I think handset upgrades have to go through the sponsor too. I'm also not really sure what happens when the sponsor leaves Sprint. I don't think SERO ever had liability falling on the employees, which is why it had limited availability for a while. I don't know a lot of people at sprint who trust friends enough to assume liability like that though. I know I wouldn't do it for any of my friends. Looking at the features, SWAC looks just like SERO but with a discount to cover the premium data. That $20 option makes switching to a dumb phone again almost appealing though. Phones cheap enough to not need insurance at all, and still get unlimited texting. If I didn't stream Internet radio at work I would try to drop back to normal SERO again.

I was really leaning towards the Samsung Note 2, until it was pointed out that it can't do simultaneous 3G data and voice (like the S3 does). The consolation being it can do LTE data and voice, which will be great once my town gets the upgrade in 2018. loving gently caress fucks. I'm actually kind of amused by the effort that went into SVDO devices like the SGS3. They had to duplicate the CDMA signal path just to support that one feature. Although honestly it's a nice (if useless) consolation prize for stepping down from a WiMXAX device to an LTE device in a WiMAX-but-not-LTE market that won't see LTE for another year or two.

My wife and I upgraded to Note 2s this week. We are absolutely loving it. The size hasn't been an issue at all and I can't imagine going smaller now. The only thing I wish it had was the multi window option that the International version has, but I'm assuming it will be released as an OTA update later on.

My only gripe so far is that the stock messaging app doesn't give enough real estate for the conversation. They keyboard takes up 1/2 the screen, the contact, and message you are entering take up a huge portion, leaving about 1/4 of the screen for the actual conversation. Also, I miss the directional keyboard buttons from my EVO keyboard. Krime fucked around with this message at 20:38 on Nov 3, 2012 |

ExcessBLarg! posted:Yeah pretty much. Hmm I might stay on Sprint then. I'm kind of in a confusion about that. If you don't mind, I have more questions. Are there some things the Nexus 4 may be able to do that the SGS III + CM10 couldn't? Like HDR mode in the camera app, PhotoSphere, Face Unlock, offline Voice to Text, Saying "Google" to activate Voice Search while in Google Now, basically all of the things the Nexus S is missing on ICS/Jelly Bean. Would the phone last me a while with a dual-core processor? I mean the LG Nexus has a quad core so I don't know. How does Samsung's processor stack up to the quad-core in the Nexus 4/Optimus G? Would the Sprint Optimus G be a better choice than the Sprint SGSIII if the bootloader is unlocked and CM10 officially put on it? Another question is, is the Sprint SGSIII officially supported for CM? I checked their site and they don't seem to be up to date. I think the last SGS phone is the SGSII.

In contrast there's a few reasons why the SGS3 is reasonably well supported. A big one is that it was the second of Sprint's "second-gen" LTE devices (the Galaxy Nexus being a first-gen) that utilized a relatively-open underlying platform, and another is that the device came out right near the 22-month upgrade date for folks who picked up the original Evo and Epic devices at launch. So if you like having even worse coverage with a not up to date phone to save $20 (with no customer support as well), go for it.
