Complements of Pandora: Tunnidge - Decay http://soundcloud.com/pro100-sasha/tunnidge-decay (note: that's not my soundcloud, that one just has the best quality I could find). I'm not sure exactly which genre this falls into- I'm trying to find more like it but am not having any luck. My apologies if this doesn't explicitly fall into the "UK" definition, but it has a similar structure as Benga (ft. Coki) - Night. Edit: Grammar. That's some straight up dubstep right there. On the deeper/darker side of things. Check out the Deep Medi label (Tunnidge has a couple of releases there iirc) and everyone on it, especially Mala/DMZ. Maybe Tempa as well. Also check out Youngsta's show tonight on Rinse FM, you can get podcasts from past weeks from rinse.fm

Yeah you're definitely in luck as there is a LOT out there like that. JamesKPolk's suggestions above are good. Try also Chestplate records. Edit: with regards to Deep Medi, there are three very useful releases you could grab - Deep Medi Releases Volumes 1, 2 and 3, which are all compilations of singles/releases up until that point. A suburban American's journey into Grime: Over the past few months I've become familiar with Ruff Sqwad and Roll Deep, then found my way to BBK (man, JME is sick), and Family Tree stuff. I got the Kozzie's The Problem's Started CD but it's disappointing after hearing 200RTs first, which is insame. I've also listened to like basically everything posted in here. After thinking I Luv U was sick I couldn't find anything else I liked by Drizzee, and had that problem with a lot of other people. So there's a story for you guys. Thanks for helping me find this poo poo that gets me fired up on my way to the gym. But man, I wish it was as easy to find grime poo poo as it is for doom, sludge, and hardcore-that poo poo's easy. When I'm hunting down grime poo poo I feel like I find a sick song, realize it's not on any album, get an album and realize it's nothing like the jam I wanted to hear.

Grime albums / mixtapes are generally pretty poor. Kozzie's is a perfect example of that - about 3 or 4 standout tracks where he's obviously paid for decent instrumentals and the rest is just filler that he's recycled bars from sets on. This doesn't apply to: - Dizzee Rascal: Boy In Da Corner (best grime album ever, infact the best piece of UK social commentary of modern times IMO) & Showtime (how can you not like another one of his tunes other than I Luv You?!) - Wiley: Treddin' On Thin Ice & Da 2nd Phaze - Slew Dem: Non Stop Working Don't ever buy full grime albums or mixtapes, just listen to them on Youtube then buy the tracks you like, there are always a ton of throwaway tunes. Stick to EP's and singles. Merky Ace - Catch Up is a sick EP I'd recommend.

What? Mixtapes are great. Albums, though, ya they're gash EDIT: Coincidentally, Spyro's show just started. Always a don.

# ? Oct 25, 2012 19:03 |
I'm struggling to think of a mixtape other than Da 2nd Phaze & Non Stop Working that I could listen too all the way through. Even the Tunnel Vision series has loads of tracks that went straight to my recycle bin. Don is the best word for Spyro. His set B2B with Spooky was the best technical display of grime DJ'ing I've heard

All the BBK mixtapes are great. Wiley's put out a lot of instro tapes, Ghetts had a couple that I liked, the Ruff Sqwad ones, that D Double E one that I can never find anywhere online. I think you have to just be discerning with your mixtapes to get the most.

Yeah that's what I'm noticing. It's gotta hard to keep up the Rough intensity all the way through an album. Though I think the ruff sqwad mix tapes had some sick loving tracks. War is a sick track, and the first 7 songs or so on the first guns and roses are badass. I like to blare poo poo hella loud in my car so I always grab albums instead of just using YouTube for the tunes I like. Edit: I was just relistening to roll deep and badman came on. Holy poo poo. That song fuckkng rules. The instrumental is so sick, all the dudes are top class when they spray. I'm only like 7 years late but man I love this loving song grvm fucked around with this message at 21:39 on Oct 25, 2012 |

Huge news from the Butterz crew: http://www.factmag.com/2012/10/25/leading-grime-label-butterz-switches-to-a-six-man-operation/ That's an all-star squad right there. WIth Elijah & Skilliam spending more and more time on the road, it doesn't surprise me that they are bringing more people on board. With Terror Danjah officially on board with Butterz, I wonder what Hardrive's future is. I've been waiting on the Hardwired comp for ages. Maybe Elijah & Skilliam needed some capital for a big new project. Elijah promised some more information soon. Also, Ben UFO is officially confirmed for FabricLive 67. Also, Frisco's newest tape was pretty good imo. Decline fucked around with this message at 00:44 on Oct 26, 2012 |

I've got to admit I've been liking that new Harmonic 313 release. Well the vocal rather than the dub I should say, Riko Dan bringing the flavour. And it's a 10" too which is always love. http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=WAP338

I finally (time is slow when you are waiting for records) got my stuff in from the Chemical Records sale. I picked up Kuedo - Severant, Zomby - Zomby EP, Disclosure - The Face EP, Skream - Skreamizms 1 and although not topic relevant I also picked up Siriusmo - Diskoding. All together shipped to Chicago, IL was about $60. I am AMAZED at the amount I can save when I pick things up from overseas at the right time. Not that I don't spend all of my hard earned cash at locals or anything... Kuedo, Disclosure, and Zomby are all my first full listens. Only just about 3/4ths the way through Severant, but needless to say, I am loving it. I've just started dabbling in DJing and really enjoying it so far. I have a weird setup right now: one Technics 1200 Mk5, an arbitrary 4-channel Numark mixer, and my Pro-ject Debut III on the other end. I kind of have to do unidirectional mixing... which is weird. Any djs in this thread by chance that can give me any tips? BaconCopter fucked around with this message at 01:11 on Oct 30, 2012 |

You can't really overstate the importance of selection but I don't know if you can really establish any continuity with just 1 deck. You can practice beatmatching though, and once you get passable at that start recording your transitions and listening to them. Compare them to mixes from good DJs. The things you're doing wrong will start to pop out. Also, check out the DJ thread and the DJ mixes thread in Musicians Lounge.

Basic Chunnel posted:Pretty sure they repressed it not long ago. I got it for $9 or so at Reckless in Chicago back in '09 Yeah the original was out on Skam a long time ago I think, and it did get bootlegged a few years ago. Well I say bootleg, for all I know it could've been a sneaky cash-in. And hey why not, the prices I've seen some of those BoC collectors pay I'd be sneaking repressed white labels out the back door 24/7. Kinda wish I had picked it up now, would've been another nice addition to my future pension fund. BaconCopter posted:I've just started dabbling in DJing and really enjoying it so far. Any djs in this thread by chance that can give me any tips? Sadly I didn't have the cash to properly take advantage of the Chemical offer. It was a good deal though. Ah well, all I was really looking forward to was the Unspecified Enemies repress on Numbers, which has made my month really. Anyway if you ask me, the best thing to do in order to be a better DJ is just to listen to as much and as wide a variety of poo poo as you can and buy as much of it as you can. New, old, whatever. Knowledge is power and all that bollocks. Though honestly if I ever had one of those Pro-Ject turntables it'd be out the window in five minutes man. I know they sound good but man, having to manually switch the belt to change speeds everytime would do nothing but piss me right off. Audiophiles are wierd cunts they really are, but when you get yet another double pack that has every side on a different speed you don't care if having a speed selection switch causes a minute amount of electrical interference that you could only ever hear in a sterile lab room on a £10k Linn system with the volume cranked up to 11.
