Not being a US citizen, I don't have quite the same thrist for republican tears. However, I've been diging through Free Republic and Fox and some other places and...well. I have to ask: how come you guys don't feel freakin' -terrified-? Are they all windbags and whiners? If I had a dime for each mention I saw of militias, revolution, sniper rifles and the biblical apocalypse tonight, I'd likely be able to afford running for president myself...after also funding an ammadnment to make it legal for me to run. Then again, for all the acrid words traded over there, you guys have neve r had a coup, while here in Brazil where we're sooooo amiable and docile the army has a distinct propensity to run tank threads over the institutions if things get too shaky for the elite...

Just caught the tail-end of Boortz. He closed his show lamenting the fact that Obamacare is not going away and that business owners should fire anyone in their company that voted for Obama because 'they' created the problem and 'they' should feel the burden. Boortz said rhetorically to his listening audience that 'You know who they are'. How many business owners do you think are going to take this seriously?

Amazing as it seems to be, I think the scales have fallen from many of the GOP shills' eyes, and they are seeing that the majority of the American people actually rejected their arguments last night. Because I really would have expected them to try and find some way to claim the election was stolen. But I think after the absolute drubbing they got last night, they can't really say that anymore. Rush sounds remarkably chipper this morning, I suspect that despite any happy talk that he had an idea what the real odds were going into election night. It is interesting that he is actually praising Romney to the skies, talking about what a great guy/good man he is and how his ideal Mormon family represents the American ideal. I expected Mitt to get immediately savaged by the whole right wing media crew, so this development is a bit unexpected. Now that the election is over I am really curious whether Fox will abruptly drop the Benghazi thing that no one else but right wingers care about, or continue to flog it as the next Fast and Furious impeachment bait. Edit: In the immediate post-election broadcast in 2008 he seemed completely flummoxed and not to know exactly what to say, a big contrast to today. I understand that Republicans / right wing have been demonizing socialism for years now, usually in the form of anti-communist rhetoric, but unless I'm mistaken, wasn't 2008 the election was socialism became the buzzword it is today? 2000, 2004, and 2006 were all about how evil liberals were, but I don't remember any talk of socialism from those elections for the most part.

"Socialism" (and its connection to Nazis and fascism) became the new buzzword(s) after Obama got elected, even though no conservative I know can name one single thing that Obama has done that's in any way "Socialist" or even define what it means or why it's bad, and also never even mind that what's so bad about socialism in the first place when it comes to clean air and water, law enforcement, firefighters, the military, schools, things that benefit us all etc. This is what I mean when I say that I disagree with posters who posit that people who listen to this poo poo do so for the purpose of reinforcing existing beliefs. No one ever even mentioned the word until Sean, Neil, Beck and Rush started saying it and now they just repeat it Ad nauseam without even knowing what it means or offering any evidence of how our President embodies the concept. Okay for those who have continued to listen to Rush today, earlier it seemed like he was veering away from straight up "we wuz robbed" in favor of "country now full of dumb Obamaphone negroes who outnumber us", but just a moment ago before this current break he went with the really loud emphasis of "either we outnumbered OR THE BIGGEST ELECTION THEFT IN HISTORY HAS OCCURRED, one or the other". So is he "just trying to ask questions" and play all cute with this poo poo?

You'll never hear anything out of these right wing shows, ultimately, that doesn't amount to "we are right and must never abandon TRUE CONSERVATIVE principles", "libs suck", so after a big election loss I'm always curious if there's ever any "we need to do things different" but that would go against those other messages, so it just winds up being a muddled mess.

I think they also generally hear news and take it as one more piece of the puzzle and like to disseminate what the information in a larger context for themselves. The conservatives I know usually don't have an opinion on anything until 24 hours after it happens - or after they're told what to make of it. No liberal thinking people I know regurgitate whatever it was Rachael Maddow said last night or wait to decide what they think about it until she weighs in. Rush and Neil were right about a few things today though. They are outnumbered and the extreme right wing ideology of the GOP is dragging them down in terms of electability and the demographics of the country are changing. I remain sceptical about how much they really buy into this nonsense versus how much they just don't want to bite the hand(s) that feed them and keep their bread buttered. If there's one thing that unites their voices it's that making money is an ends unto itself, so I imagine they have enough faith in what they say, at least along those lines, but if there was money to be made in left wing radio, they'd just do that instead. I think measuring a person's value to society as measured by their income is a fundamental pillar of their ideology; meaning that if a person is rich or wealthy than they're automatically doing something right - and they may have a point to a degree - but if that person is a professional athlete, actor or musician they seem to find a way to make an exception to that rule. Jeez. I didn't mean to rant like that.

I saw a little bit of Rush's meltdown today on MSNBC, and it could not have been more wonderful to see if I'd scripted it myself. I seriously thought the guy's head was going to explode like the dude's head in "Scanners". It's been said before, too, but Fox News was wonderful last night into the wee hours of the AM. They literally started turning on and sniping at each other, as some pundits tried to argue actual reasonable positions, while others were sticking their heads in the sand and denying that an ultra-conservative position could have remotely been responsible for costing them the election. O'Reilly nearly broke down in tears, Rove lost his mind, and Morris looked like a bumbling fool, with Megyn Kelly laughing in resignation all the while (and fulfilling the Fox News "show a lot of leg" directive when she wandered down the hall to talk to their numbers guys after Ohio was called). It truly was a wonderful night to watch right-wing media collapse in on itself.
