Ah had one of those as well. Give it til 2014 and you will be able to import direct from Japan as the earliest ones will be 25 years old. That said I would budget on an engine rebuild as the RB26 while a great engine is not that reliable especially after 25 years of being thrashed about. Even then I would pick up the later 93+ crank as the oil pump nose is longer which is the main weakness of the 89-92 RB26. Fun car but can be ruinously expensive to run.

I'm always curious about upkeep on those. Initial purchase price is pretty low for R32s in Canada (even on the east coast) but parts availability always worried me. That and the provinces cracking down on RHD cars.

The only thing it had going for it was AWD. Exactly and even then they were temperamental cars that liked to break something in their AWD drive train a lot. Getting the transmission out of one isn't any fun.

Saw one of those in a yard in Tucson with a for sale sign on it. Looked like it hadn't run in years. They were asking ~2500 bucks for it. That's the extent of my knowledge of the value of these cars, but based on that, this car looks like a bargain.

Problem with the 3000GT is it was essentially still basically a widened/Shortened Galant like the DSMs of the era, but with some different body work and the 6G. While the DSM cars could handle the weight, adding every technological and stupid thing you could get added up fast. They also rumbled around for about 10 years with the same basic chassis/suspension its entire run, although they got lighter as the days go on. I think people have gotten them down around 3100-3200lbs these days, depending on how much of a tin can you want to ride around in. http://www.jdm-option.com/eng/pickup/06_12/pitroad.html They can make a lot of power, but all and all I'd probably stick with a 4G63 car. I've kinda softened my haterade to them as I have to the R33 Skyline. Octopus Magic fucked around with this message at 07:20 on Nov 12, 2012 |

I had a Golf Rallye on hold back in 2004 when they first were legal to import to Canada and if I could have managed the insane insurance I would still have it. The G60 syncro will eventually transplant itself into the horrible mechanical failures thread, but by Jesus will you have fun getting it there.

Also complete an out of province inspection depending on where you're importing it to. It would be 100% worth it.
