But what I really want to say is, $123 is a lot to spend on games! IF anyone's looking to spend less but still get in on the free shipping deal, anyone wanna coordinate ordering for two people at once and then splitting it up when it gets here? Would cost about an extra $10 for shipping once it gets to the USA, I guess. Who knows, I might take it back and just spend the money.

Oh man, I would be all over this if someone wanted to split their order with me. I don't need or can't really afford $123 worth of stuff at this time, but I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help with odds and ends.

Speaking of which, my travel route goes by Osaka-Kyoto-Tokyo, week on each locale, meaning I have well enough time to scour for retro goodies. Are there any "must hit" places in Osaka or Kyoto? I hear there's a similar district to Akihabara in Osaka and Kyoto most likely has its share of retro gaming stores.

edit: actually, it seems Europe is poo poo out of luck for free shipping (or even 4000 yen off shipping). There's no mention of eligibility outside of China, Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, USA, Canada and Australia.

I had better luck with retrogame shopping in Osaka's nerd district than I did in Akihabara but Akihabara is easier to find and navigate. There were more shops dedicated to retrogaming in Osaka and they were all very close to each other but I had some difficulty in finding the area because my guidebook was unhelpful and there weren't exactly signs while Akihabara has its own clearly marked station.

FWIW, I found Super Potato had the best prices on hardware and they had a lot of selection but other shops generally had better prices of software. Shopping around is a good idea when it comes to retrogame stores since prices vary a lot.

That said, the real bargains aren't going to be found in either of those places. Go to a store like Book Off, the bigger you can find the better (there was one just outside of the south exit from the Akihabara station; that's not one to use). The smaller locations seemed to just have current games but there's larger ones that have a much bigger selection including tons of retro stuff. Prices start around 105 yen and don't go up an awful log. Selection is spotty at these places but you can just fill up a basket with a pile of games that seem interesting.

I went to the one in Kawasaki since it was only one major station down the line from my hotel and it was a pain to get to (my map didn't have a scale so I wound up walking for about twenty minutes). However, it was worth the trip since I just loaded up with everything. I'm still kicking myself for passing up a boxed Super Famicom for under 2000 yen at that location. Getting back to the station was easy since there's a bus that goes right there from the front of the store.

I want to take advantage of that Rakutan deal but I've bought so much gaming stuff in the past couple of weeks... And yet I keep looking and saying, "Oh, do they have this?"

I pmed you about this but I'm putting it out there for anyone.

I have an item I'd like to get for 4,400 yen. It's ONE item, and not that heavy so it won't hurt your shipping ratio and be very cheap to ship to me.

That's almost halfway to your goal. If anyone wants to take me in on their order, just pm me.

I don't know how much stuff you need to get, but my portion of the order is 4,660 yen and almost half the entire order. We only need 5340 more yen, which is like 60 bucks, or $30 for you and $30 for someone else. or $20 for 3 people.

Now, I just need to clean the inside of it out, because holy poo poo it's dirty as gently caress on the inside. Incidentally though, it plays games perfectly fine that don't read well on my SNES mini. I guess I have to give the cartridge slot a better cleaning on my mini.

If an item does not say "there is no box theory" in the item name, then from what I understand, it should include the box and manual.

This is right as far as I can tell. In my first purchase, everything I got that didn't have a box said "There is no Box Theory" and everything I got that had a box didn't say that and the item was listed with a picture of the box.

Hey guys! I've been lurking this thread for ages and just wanted to pop in to advertise my retro-gaming related glass art!

(The Link one is sold, but I have other stuff and will be adding more soon!)

I make glass mosaics of video game characters! Hooray! They're kind of like those pearler bead things, but, in my humble opinion, quite a bit nicer! 16x16 pixel sprites end up being about 8 1/2 inches square and the colors are SUPER BRIGHT. I even include scanline emulation for no extra charge!

Please check out my Etsy store at http://www.etsy.com/shop/zachsgamecrafts

I also do customs, so feel free to PM me or email me at zachsgamecrafts@gmail.com if you'd like a custom quote, although I doubt I'll be able to do any customs before Christmas!

Last but not least, here is the biggest custom order I've ever done. It ended up being 18x16 1/2 inches and weighed a loving ton;

Back when I worked at a video store that had games, we were under orders not to use the disc resurfacers on DC discs because they would gently caress them up irreperably - so I've had a fear of using anything on a DC disc that wasn't specifically intended for DC. Something to keep in mind~

HKR, that's a pretty badass haul. I like the way you bought all of the Guilty Gear incremental releases. But I see CvS1, but not CvS2. Did I miss it? If not, it's a criminal oversight. At least they play substantially differently than the Guilty Gears which are more or less obsoleted by each successive version.

Also, is that first item... a fuckin' Pocket Station?! That is simultaneously cool and not cool at all. Do you have Ridge Racer 4 and FF8? They are the only two US games I can think of off the top of my head to support the Pocket Station. What a silly accessory for $35 2000 dollars and now, they only cost $.50.

The new thread seems to be moving pretty fast with the holidays/SS. I declared Retrothread bankruptcy and skipped about 10 pages.

My rule for buying used stuff is $5 or less. CvS1 was under $5, CvS2 wasn't. (I also really really like GG)

The first item is a collection of pocketstation games I believe. I also have a secret desire to collect every single japanese release that supported the pocketstation. I imported one back when they first came out for a crazy amount of money, and a few years later my brother stole it and sold it for drugs. I picked up a new in box one last time I did a Rakuten sale for about $1.

So the secret to Pokemon Blue, I am learning, is "Take Bulbasaur, level it up to like the 30s VINE WHIP-ing everything, teach it BODY SLAM, and then one-shot every motherfucker in your way"

Because that sure seems like the secret to success in Pokemon Blue. It's laughably easy with my lv.35 Bulbasaur.

The secret to success in pokemon is always level up your starter and use only him. Though the original has some fun tricks.

Psychic pokemon are always the best type. Hyper Beam doesn't have a recharge if you one-shot the enemy with it. Always use Ice Beam, since a frozen enemy won't be able to thaw unless you attack them with fire. Also the Special stat affects both Special Attack and Special Defense, so some pokemon (venusaur) are at a huge advantage.

I don't like when video game swag becomes valuable. I noticed that Mega Man 9 Press Kits sealed go for the price of a Wii U on eBay, and I'm getting tempted to sell mine. It's a really cool thing, but that's a crazy price for it.

It's tough looking at the price of some retro games and merchandise. Sometimes they'll keep climbing, and it was a mistake to sell, sometimes prices will plummet with a downloadable version comes out on modern consoles or a re-release happens for merchandise. I think the Disgaea figure collection that was originally for sale only on NISAmerica.com was going for over $200 at one point, but with a few figure collection releases since then, values have plummeted.

You have to ask yourself if you're collecting because you like games and want to have cool things, or if you're collecting because you want to make a cool profit. Both are okay but when it comes to things like the MM9 press kit you have to ask yourself why you got it in the first place.

Normally with games, it's pretty straight forward for me. I buy them to play them. Swag and merchandise is such a different thing. The Mega Man 9 press kit just contains a hollowed out NES cartridge with a CD containing some Mega Man 9 media on it, but I'm not really hurting for toys and figures that look cool on shelves. Add that in with, I had no interest in owning a Wii U before launch, but there's enough games in the lineup that I really want to play, and the idea of turning this silly little box into a Wii U is tempting me. It's really silly, but I'm actually pretty distressed over this, normally I don't get flustered by stuff.
