The strict hammer of moderation usually improves online communities greatly, and you don't have to look farther than this very forum to see that.

My number one reason I greatly hope the Wii U is a phenomenal success is the idea of other gaming services taking after their example and beginning to moderate content in the same way Nintendo has, from what I've been hearing.

Even just discouraging being an rear end in a top hat and encouraging friendly conduct makes me really happy, and from everyone I've talked to who owns a Wii U, very little to nothing has slipped through the cracks and it's working exactly how Nintendo wants. That makes me really happy.

Say, how does ZombiU do it?

Most of the time the gamepad shows a minimap, which you can click a button to send out a radar pulse that tells you where nearby creatures are. You can also hold it up to use it as a scanner a la Metroid Prime. It also functions as the inventory system, forcing you to take your eyes off the screen in order to loot stuff, making you more vulnerable.

All said it's actually quite well implemented and seeing a launch title use it this well has me excited to see how games will use it down the line.

A few random questions I still haven't seen answered yet that I'll throw out again:

1) Is there any trick to registering Nintendo Land on Club Nintendo if you got the deluxe pack-in? I've seen people say that registering the Wii U does both, but I only ever got the survey/160 coins for the console, and never saw anything regarding the game. Those extra 70 points sure would be nice.

2) What is the icon in the bottom right of Miiverse posts that looks like a tv/box with a check mark by it? It's next to the icons that show the number of yeahs and replies.

3) Has there been any mention of how soon demos/more games will pop up on the eShop, or any mention of a weekly schedule sort of thing like the PS3 and 360 seem to have for those releases?

Also, has anyone beaten the second level of Donkey Kong's Flip Your poo poo Over And Die on Nintendo Land? I'm curious if there's more.

Assuming you mean the end of the first (red) level, you have to take the first few ramps very slowly, and then go left really fast on the last ramp and flip it back right as soon as you land on the last platform. It's pretty tough and usually takes me a few tries, I also usually end up finishing mid-crash on one wheel, but it still lets me go through.

So my Gamepad seems to very easily lose communication during F-Zero in Nintendo Land if I am not holding it completely vertical. Am I the only one here? I am just surprised to see it basically freak out and lose it's calibration so quickly in that game, it makes it unplayable.

Yeah there's at least one more. It's weird. You beat the first level once, then you have to beat it again. After you beat it the second time, a new path opens up that takes you to the second level. In other news, it's currently my favorite NintendoLand game.

I saw your miiverse post right after I died 3 or 4 straight times on that last ramp. I've gotten to the second level twice, but my first level runs often end on that last ramp.

That's just rampant speculation on my part about orientation maybe causing overheating, but I'm sure you will be able to get a stand super cheap.

I've had no problems at all with it, apart from when I wanted to hold it flat in the beginning it forced me to go vertical.

Everyone should play DUKE games.

:dukedog:
Nintendo released that statement about how they're working on a solution to the long load times when starting/exiting different applications and games. Is that something that's even possible to do for the current stuff? Or do they just mean future releases will be better optimized? Just curious.

ZombiU IS very repetitive but I like it a lot overall. Not quite my dream game but I'm really happy with it. As a launch title with some hype I'm hoping it does well enough despite the reviews that more slow first person games are made, or maybe the WiiU could get an Amnesia port or the holy grail happens and From Software makes a new King's Field game or something. First person games that aren't an FPS are literally my favorite type of game ever I just want more more and more.

King's Field would be pretty awesome on the Wii U actually, it was one of the first games to experiment with minimal HUD so having it play with all the information on the pad and just the game on the tv would be great.

It really is an annoyingly long wait between closing and opening other apps. I'm hoping that they mean they're working on fixing things for current applications, and if it's a software issue then it's definitely fixable for all apps.

The headline is rather alarmist, but the content doesn't seem that hit-driven. Is it really that unprecedented as the article makes it, that the games are being sold with a discount already? I have no idea how American retain works and the whole Black Friday-stuff eludes me.

What the game makes me wish for more than anything is a 1st person Silent Hill that is a return to form in line with the first and second. The Black light use in ZombiU is really cool, and would love to see some other games do something like it. A new King's Field though.....

ZombiU is unarguably a tech demo but it's a pretty good tech demo. It's just neat and shows how a game that makes you take your eyes off the screen can do so effectively. It's by no means a system seller but nothing besides Mario U really is. (And Mario U is probably one of the best launch titles in recent memory when it comes to consoles, but that's faint praise considering how bad launch lineups suck.)

I've seen several games have discounts on them on day one pretty much. I think Best Buy and Toys R Us often has stuff like buy 1 get $10 off or a $10 gift card or buy 1 and get a game from this selection free, etc.

And yeah, Black Friday is when lots of retail stores do big discounts to turn people into ravenous beasts willing to murder each other to save $5-$15 or so.

We don't really know exactly what's possible at this point.

One thing that's noticeable is how everything that's included in the home menu (the stuff you can boot without leaving a game, like the shop and browser), loads very quickly. I believe these are the apps that have access to the OS's dedicated 1 gig of memory.

Everything else (games, the main menu, the system settings menu) requires you to leave what you're currently doing and load up the new app. That suggests to me that each of these programs would need to be individually updated to load faster. The built-in ones could be done as a batch, I'm sure.

I have this weird bug in zombiU. I am at the first part where the zombie horde attacks the safehouse. I died around 4-5 times and finally wiped out the last zombie. He tells me to rest. I can't rest, it says the area is too dangerous. I leave and continue the mission to buckingham. I get to a sewer grate and still can't save at the bed. What gives? I really wish that article had taken the tone of "here's how you make sure someone gets a friend request". It was actually pretty informative. Admittedly, I don't see why Nintendo needs the "registering" option. I wonder if that's the way it was originally going to be handled, then later developed the user search.

Well I started over at that same point because I lost all my supplies after dying on my way back from the supermarket, and then having to skip right to the defense with nothing but 6 bullets. I died like 8 times. It took less than an hour to get there again, and it was still fun.
