Speaking of that hiimdaisy dub, is there any place to just look at the original comics? The dub is great and all, but I'd just like to see the originals without the editing work, and livejournal is telling me I need an account there. I don't plan on ever using livejournal, so gently caress that.
EDIT: Also the link on the page given by a google search leads to a blank album for some reason.

Here's a handy video Atlus sent out a while back that shows how to do it.

The most important thing to remember is to make sure the unit is clean and free of dust and dirt specks.

Unfortunately I think he has the majority opinion in Japan. I liken the situation with homosexuality in Japan to the way it was in the early 80s in the US. Clearly lots of people still think gay sex only happens in public restrooms and that AIDS is a gay only disease, and so on.

And I think that sorta ruined the take on Kanji's character that they were going for. It would have been pretty groundbreaking if they made him bisexual. Instead, they made him straight, but confused, and ultimately straight again. There was so much talk about Kanji's character that I was let down by the path that was taken instead.

Well, when I say "majority opinion" that probably includes most of Atlus's staff, so they decided ultimately not to go there.

edit: either that or they believe that homosexuality is a choice and that Kanji eventually chose to be straight, since he found a girl he liked.

The whole point of the game was that despite people having different tendencies, it was ok to have them. Kanji being made fun of because he was gay shows the exact opposite of that, that keeping it inside was the "right" thing to do. Funny enough, Yosuke is much better about this in the anime, but Kanji himself is worse and Naoto is plain old insulted.

I never considered Kanji to be straight. It makes more sense to me for him to swing both ways.

After all, his feelings for Naoto don't seem to change when her true gender was revealed.

Yeah, this is I thought an old and buried discussion--Kanji's sexuality was always meant to be left ambiguous, and it's really up to you to decide what you feel he best is (unless they confirm it in later games).

Interesting that everybody dogpiles on Yosuke. He's 16 and acts like it--hating him for that seems a bit harsh, especially since his "homophobia" boils down to three or four cracks at Kanji's expense, and one situation where he's uncomfortable sharing a tent with him (which is also something I think a teenage boy would be hesitant about, especially a sheltered rich-kid like Yosuke.). I feel a little silly defending him, but it seems that there's a bit unfair levels of criticism leveled at him at times.

Also Cake Attack's prolly on the right of it, I always felt Yosuke had a bit too strong a broship with the main character. :P

Honestly, I think his homophobia is over-exaggerated by his detractors. I'm not saying it's not there, but I do think he actually gets a bit better as the year goes by.

During the camp out, he was pretty bad, I'll give you that. Though for the record, when it looked like Kanji was going to do something that could get himself into trouble, he made an earnest effort to calm him down and keep him from running off.

After Teddie gets a human form, Yosuke lightly teases Kanji, but then drops it after Kanji tells him to knock that poo poo off (more or less).

During the school festival, if you choose to sit on the girls' side of the table at the group date cafe and hit on him, he's still squicked out by it... but he also mentions that he's a bit flattered. And while staying at the inn after it's all over, he's able to be completely civil about bathing with and sharing a room with Kanji without any of the "oh please don't violate me in my sleep" crap that he was doing during the camp out.

So yeah, I'd say he starts off bad with the homophobia, but he does make an effort to get over it, and he doesn't really give Kanji any more grief about it than he gives other people about the things that get under their skin.

Edit: Spoiler tags added at the request of the post below this one.

But yeah, he gets a lot of undeserved crap for being pretty much a stupid teenager that runs his mouth too much. Doesn't mean the game isn't lacking a "Shut up, man" option, more often than not. I considered him to be less annoying than Junpei, even though they share the same role, considering he wasn't compromising the whole mission just out of jealousy.

Kanji's sexuality is never confirmed in any meaningful way. This is pretty intentionally so. Any argument you can make is specifically coached in such a way that there is a counterargument for it. If you are reading him as straight, that is your own takeaway of intentional ambiguity.

The punishement part is also the thing about learning that one of the few people that actually seemed to like him in Inaba was just brown-nosing to him and loathing him in his back. But yeah, Yosuke usually get some karmic payback for most of his wrongdoings: the camp has him wasting his night hauling Kanji out of troubles, then getting pushed into freezing water (in which Mooroka puked in), the date cafe is a failure, the pageant has him getting pressganged as well. He never really gets away for free.

I think the thing with Saki is even worse for him since the Shadows show the deepest repressed side of a person. So it's completely possible that Saki actually liked Yosuke, but he'll never know for sure.

Also, I don't think comic relief really counts as Yosuke getting punished. It doesn't seem like he learned from any of those things.

It doesn't have to be the complete opposite. Everyone else who had a Shadow came to to terms that what their other side was saying had some form of truth behind it. A part of Saki did resent Yosuke, but that doesn't mean that's all she felt for him.
