https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raqxctNC04k A Swedish group(?) called Kate Boy released their debut single the other day and it's now featured on Pitchfork where I stumbled onto it. The song reminds me of The Knife in a big way, but atleast the single is a bit more melodic and a bit less abrasive. Been playing it on loop all day and I love it! I hope they release more soon.

No problem. And agreed: Geographer > Freelance Whales, though I like them both. And since I'm in a good mood this morning, here's a couple of bands I haven't seen mentioned. Beautiful Small Machines: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3e02AbGv2Bk I'm not sure what to say about them. Very upbeat pop that sounds like it comes straight out of an 80's movie. I've trouble tracking down some of their music, but it always puts me in a good mood. Masshysteri: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1v_VXLb1Yk Novak brought up Swedish groups so this is my contribution. Someone gave a psychotic Swede who wasn't in The Hives a guitar and this is what happened. Again, very catchy and a lot of the guitar bits a very impressive.

My name is JAK3. I'm an independent electronic artist, and I am working on my debut album for release in early 2013! I've been producing for many years, but mostly for other people, and I got tired of making beats for rappers, so I decided to do my own thing and make the sort of music that I want to make. I know that a lot of people do not like heavy use of autotune, so if you are one of them, then you may want to skip me... but if you don't mind heavily processed vocals (or think they sound beautiful like I do) , then please please check me out. I would place the genre in "electronic pop" , but the album will be a mixture of the electro sound heard in "Empty Avenue" and also a psychedelic rock sort of vibe. I'm still in the very early phases of being a solo artist and trying to build my audience - but music creation and the music industry are my two passions, so I know that with enough dedication and hard work I will get to the level that I aspire to be at. If you dig my stuff, please share it with anyone else you think may like it, and even if you don't like it, thank you so much for giving me a chance and listening to my music!! Here's the video for my first single, Empty Avenue (my first iTunes release!!) http://youtu.be/fhj1RDsZxfo?hd=1 And the acoustic version for the autotune haters: http://youtu.be/t1N_BMhBhSg Official Website: http://bit.ly/UkUdii Facebook: http://on.fb.me/W4qsnj Twitter: http://bit.ly/Zyw4d8 (note: I posted this in two different threads in the music forum. Is this ok? I couldn't decide on just one category to put it in. Not trying to break any rules - Let me know if it's not ok.)

crystal castles live was a lifechanging experience, one of my top 3 shows of all time, and I've seen them all. Go under all circumstances. It cost me like 25 bucks when they were in austin. Get near the front and get prepared to be destroyed, the new lightshow is absolutely seizure inducingly wonderful. Feels like you're on a different planet.

appropriatemetaphor posted:I dunno I'd rather see CC than radiohead. Supply and demand I guess? At this point, I'd rather see CC over Radiohead too! I wasn't saying that I prefer one over the other but more that Radiohead is just a bigger name so they'd have a much higher honourarium and tickets would have to cost more. But I agree, supply and demand could definitely come into play if the folks weren't expecting CC tickets to sell that well and a price hike was their only option. edit: Although price increases are usually an almost last resort behind excessive aggressive promoting and adding openers/co-liners.

I found a band with a rather interesting combination of instruments. Now, being folk, the traditional way of selecting instruments is "Can you get your hands on it? Cool. Can you play it? Well, learn", but I feel that didgeridoo, harp and hurdy gurdy deserves a special mention. So yeah, Omnia. Here's one song of theirs I rather like.

I've been listening to Sufjan Stevens new Christmas album. It's 59 songs, so there is alot of crap but some of this stuff is just excellent. I'd say mostly skip through the first 2 discs, and listen to the last 3. Christmas Unicorn is especially good, mostly for the amazing lyrics.

Spotify doesn't give me the names but disc 1 is pretty drat good and disc 2 was terrible. Discs 3, 4, and 5 all sounded pretty similar and I liked 3 the most of the bunch but that could partially be just getting a little bored going through all of them. I liked it more overall than I thought I would but I probably won't be trying to buy the whole box set.

Even the songs that are EXACTLY like what you'd expect from a 5 disc Sufjan Stevens Christmas album are still pretty sounding and enjoyable. But it's the completely insane left turns the album takes (especially in the latter three discs) that make this worth the time. "Christmas Unicorn" is honestly in the running for one of my favorite songs of this year.
