Beef Log Boy/Shreddie Mercury PSA: I was talking up your tunes to two of my friends that work the Boston scene pretty hard as a tandem act and they dropped your Spectrum remix at Prime the other night and the whole place went hammer. Thought you would want to know!

So I know a dude who works for Isotope. He's working on a VST that let's you collaborate with people and stream stems between DAWs online. Basically the idea is that one person has this VST on an empty channel in their DAW. The other person has the same VST on a channel in their DAW that has music written in. Then you connect to each other through the VST on the internet. One person transmits the audio to the person with the empty track, and you essentially share the same track now. He's working on syncing midi timecode as well. Anyway he was looking for ideas on what to add to the concept. What do you guys think sucks about online collaboration besides having to share stems?

I'd rather just share stems through a shared dropbox folder like I always do - how would that VST sync playback and stuff and not just create an unholy mess?
|
# ? Nov 15, 2012 16:25 |
|
Well you would be able to record the audio, so you would only have to transmit once. I also forgot to mention that he is designing a web app that lets you actually tweak the knobs of the other person's synth.

Anyone in here using bitwig? and any idea of how it's shaping up in the beta/timeframes? I want to leave ableton - i'm still on 7 and only use it for arrangement as it is, and bitwig looks like a good move for me.

Did Ableton Share just disappear? IIRC it was supposed to come with 7 or 8 and it looks like they've removed it from their site entirely. Seemed like a pretty good solution for sharing sets, wonder why it didn't work out.

Just this morning I finished up the most ridiculously happy sounding song I think I've ever written. It's Drum & Bass and it's so over the top and it was absurdly fun to write and produce: http://soundcloud.com/killhamster/siiiiix I'm having a bit of a writer's block though; I can't seem to come up with decent drum fills or breaks lately. Kick or snare rolls seem boring and predictable, so I find myself using various effects for a bar or two instead, or combining this with little drum breaks. Any advice on livening up that sort of thing?

I've got a decent paying job as of late so I'm looking to get into producing again, something that I feel money has prevented me from doing in the past. It's just less fun when you're using a computer keyboard, ya know? My thought is that I'll just need an M-Audio Oxygen 49 keyboard, and along with Ableton Live, that'll do. Is there any other keyboard you guys think I should consider? If Ableton Live 9 is releasing soon, should I just wait to buy it and use FL Studio which I already have? Lastly, is there a subreddit or some other decently-paced forum you guys can point me to for this thing? Supposedly the Live forums are good. Thanks goons. I started working on a House cover of the Eternal Sunshine theme today. Don't know how much more I'll work on it but it was fun and I loving love the actual theme. I think I'm going to soundflower in a vocal clip from the movie in that break around 1:50. This is what I have so far: e: New version: http://soundcloud.com/heyitsben/eternal-sunshine Please critique! I'm very much a novice. e: Also the actual song is in 3/4 and I tried to adapt it to 4/4. My theory game isn't great so I don't even know if that's possible but I tried to keep the vibe of the main melody and harmonies in there. I think I'm going to soundflower in a vocal clip from the movie in that break around 1:50. I think you done good switching from 3/4 to 4/4. Sounds legit, and the tune is still recognizable through it. I do feel like the synth sounds could use work, or maybe just effects and such to give them more "body." The lead sound that kicks in at 0:40 or so is super dull and tinny. If it rang out more, and took up more space in the mix (of which you have plenty) it could sound really epic and awesome. cubicle gangster posted:I'm curious as to the general verdict on this - http://soundcloud.com/downpour/wip-nov This is loving groovy, but I'm a sucker for melody and it leaves a lot to be desired in that regard. Though listening to some of your other stuff that doesn't appear to really be your thing so keep on keeping on. As for myself, I started on a remix of Flume's "Ezra" yesterday and I'm not really sure how I feel about it. Tips of any sort would be appreciated. And also made this this experimenting with some adjunct beats by resampling loops after putting them through beat repeat a few times unSavory fucked around with this message at 03:13 on Nov 18, 2012 |

I'm having a problem with Traktor and my electribe and maybe you guys can help. I used this guide http://www.freewebs.com/sobotoys/mapping%20engl.html and used Midi-OX and Midi Yoke to get the knobs on my Electribe ER-1 to send MIDI data. This works fine in FL Studio, but for some reason Traktor detects all the knobs as the same so I can't assign different knobs to different things. The buttons work fine, though. edit: it detects the delay knobs as seperate, but they only go in one direction for some reason Number Two Stunna fucked around with this message at 00:48 on Nov 19, 2012 |

Sorted up a track I've been working for a while, would love some feedback! https://soundcloud.com/stosz/weaken-1 FutureGarage.net seems to like my stuff, they've been supporting a few of my songs. It's pretty loving weird to see my own music posted alongside some of the best in the genre right now. I love how the electronic community is so much more open and helpful coming from a background of making guitar music

FXpansion Geist and Tremor are on sale for $85 at jrrshop.com with the code Thanksgiving15. I find sequencing drums somewhat tedious in Live and was considering trying a maschine mikro or Xfer Nerve, but one of these might be a better choice? Does anybody here use them?

If you need to go lower or want to go higher you can, but those are a good place to start looking.
