Anyone else get a little dej v when Jonathan told the story of his adult DVD authoring friends in 347? Not sure what episode it was when he first told it, and he made some alterations (he changed 'meat' to 'steak'), but it was basically the same exact story. Seth didn't seem to notice it was a retread either. Not that I can blame him, it's a pretty good anecdote and it was a long time ago I think.

Putting out a request for a 'HEY FLORIDA' compilation. As in, you guys who know all the best editions of it put a word in here, then just make a video or two of them. I really think they are some of the greatest segments. Florida is like a third world country. Edit: Also, I just jump around when it actually comes to listening to episodes, because I am lazy. Holy loving poo poo, Seth's story in episode 15 about meeting a crazy lady in his mute vegan restaurant is nuts. One of the best stories I've heard from this podcast, and even better because it's in the same episode as the guy who wanted a 12-year old girl to blow her cat. Is there a specific episode where they get into the whole backstory of why Seth doesn't talk at this one restaurant? I feel like I may have heard it long ago but I could stand to listen to it again.

everyone asks, it's because they gently caress up his order if he gives it verbally so he just pretends to be mute and writes it down.

He talks about considering 'going full-on written notes' at other places he goes to as well (I think Blockbusters specifically), so I'm going to say that the vegan restaurant probably isn't the only place that he's ever pulled this at. Some good stuff in this week's, always enjoy Seth's rants about sobriety

SammyWhereAreYou posted:Don't listen backwards with this show. Listen in order because the early episodes are even better and there are lots of callbacks (though less so these days, I've noticed). Yeah I already jumped back to one a couple days ago now. I'm on 13, and just listened to Seth's rant at people complaining about the price of gas and stamps. Jesus Christ was that hilarious. I know what's coming up "next week" too, when they are talking about how To Catch A Predator goes to Florida. That episode was filmed like 2 miles from where I live and it was all over the local news at the time. These Florida segments are just killing me, so god damned funny. Edit: Holy poo poo, the story with the crazy lady in the restaurant is the best thing I've heard yet. This is incredible. dvorak fucked around with this message at 10:26 on Nov 18, 2012 |

Edit: I started listening from the beginning, since I started from 80 onwards. The first few episodes start with them begging people to email them because they don't know if anyone is listening to them. It makes me want to be there from the beginning to let them know they're awesome But who knows, maybe it was that anxiety that drove Seth insane enough to be this dope. I'm loving the show more and more as I get further through. I made it back from the current episodes to about 320, but then went back to the start. Now I'm on episode 21, and Jonathan is basically explicitly describing the location of the meth lab for Season 5 of Breaking Bad in 2006, before the show even existed. Not sure if anyone else noticed that or not, but uhh... something tells me Vince Gilligan is a fan of their show. For those who are up to date on Breaking Bad: He goes into detail about how smart it would be to run a meth lab inside a fumigation tented house, citing all the logical reasons that the characters themselves point out in the show. A crazy coincidence, a neat influence, or something to be sure. dvorak fucked around with this message at 00:17 on Nov 22, 2012 |

There's some weird prophetic poo poo in the show. I can't think of any examples off hand but I remember at least on 2 occasions going "wait, didn't UYD talk about this years ago?"

They mention at one point that KROQ (a Los Angeles radio station) did a skit on the Kevin & Bean show that involved the phrase "American-Americans." Also, I can't be certain but I'm pretty sure Seth Macfarlane ripped off UYD for the movie Ted. Early in UYD's run Seth mentions the nsmes of UYD's interns: Jennifer, Michelle, Bianca and Chardonnay. If you watch the Ted trailer, at one point Ted is hanging out with four strippers, and the fourth one is named Suavignon-Blanc. Pretty big coincidence if you ask me.

Yeah I think they talked about Obama in maybe the first couple episodes. The only thing the national audience would have even remembered him from at that point would have been the 2004 DNC.
