On a pregnancy site I read a name poll: the mom-to-be really loved the name Nevaeh but wanted to spell it differently. Should she go with Nevaeh or Neveah? indeed.

I like weird names myself, but working in hospitality you see some unfortunate ones. The saddest was a nice old man named Gaylord Newby. Second favorite is Reginald Peen. Then probably Mirna Smoot. You really gotta say them out loud, preferably in your best poo poo-eating customer service voice, to get the effect. Our computer system logs names in Lastname/Firstname format, so when I came in and saw Straw/Bary, it made me smile I also met a Stirling Black once. Pretty sure he was a superhero. Boner is also a surprisingly common last name.

I once met the most insufferable "harikrishna" "artist" in Fayetteville AK. He had a little rat tail and a voice that made you want to commit murder. He introduced himself as Blade A. Grass. I made a point of asking him how he writes it out and sure enough it's just like that. I died a little that day.

Iworked with a guy named Harry Carey. I also talked to an Ob-Gyn who said he met people who were havig a child on Halloween and had settled on the name Spook, and another that liked the name Luscious. Lastly, I know a little girl who is named Seaven. But on the sweet spectrum, my sister named her daughter after me- Julianna Kathleen. :3 we occasionally call her Jukabee for giggles, although I prefer Julie-bean (jellybean) .

I spoke with a Dick McAnally once or twice, several years ago. He was a pastor. His business card said "Rev. Dick McAnally", and I regret losing it, because that's the kind of thing you want to keep in a little gilt frame or a display case for the rest of your life. I still don't know why he didn't go by "Richard". EmperorFritoBandito has a new favorite as of 01:22 on Nov 26, 2012 |

My great-grandmother came across an unfamiliar word in a book and she thought it looked so pretty that it became the name of her first child. The word? Couturier. Great-grandma apparently had no idea how to say it, as it was pronounced within the family as Ka-tray-ah.

Last week I bumped into a girl from high school whose name is Aranda (no I didn't spell that wrong) I guess her parents decided she was such a special snowflake that the name Amanda just wasn't special enough. She has decided to continue this unfortunate trend by naming her son Dreco...

I just started reading this thread, and I know this is from the first page, but holy poo poo, lol. That's my mom's name. It's a Mexican name. She usually does go by Maria though.

My work involves schools so I get to see a lot of interesting name choices for people's children. A great example is these three kids, all sharing the same surname and presumably crazy parents: Blaze, Phoenix-Star, and Zeal.
