And people cried about keyboard goop. Psh.

I have 2000 unread posts in the GK thread and I feel really bad about not keeping up. I think the series works better when you read whole chapters in one go.

I've been meaning to ask this a long time: what's with all the ad pictures of scanty clad ladies on the bottom of the page that lead to Amazon?

Adrastus posted:I've been meaning to ask this a long time: what's with all the ad pictures of scanty clad ladies on the bottom of the page that lead to Amazon? A very clever ploy by somebody using Amazon's referral link program (where you get like 1% of the cost of whatever people buy from following your link to Amazon) to make some money. I would not be a bit surprised to find out they pay for themselves quickly.

Of the dog smileys (e.g. , ), which one appears first? Also is it a reference to a specific dog or just a random dog? What is ? I know 'bunt' is a technique in baseball where you hold your bat horizontally in front of the mitt so that the ball will almost always bounce off weakly off the bat, but what is this emoticon referring to? Lastly, what is ? What's N, D, A and R?

And it is pretty funny. I think it was just a dog modeled after the frog.

Fraction posted:Maybe just... don't click the ads? vv The person who buys them actively obscures the fact that they're Amazon referral links, right down to using TinyURL to hide the url. Aside from the totally obvious "click here for NAKED LADIES " banners you have no way of knowing if an ad is a legit Goon business or the Amazon parasite until after you click it. het posted:Sure, but the general concept is the same, it's not just because they're pseudo-porn. If my Amazon purchases are going to indirectly fill someone's coffers, I want it to be deliberate. Deceptive ads don't ultimately benefit anyone but the ad owner. Not only that but they're an active detriment to the site, since going off of the QCS drama a lot of Goons that had banner ads whitelisted have started blocking them again to avoid seeing the borderline-NSFW Amazon ads. gently caress rewarding this guy for actively hurting My Posting Experience.
