Well I've been through a lot today with it. Thinking I had bricked it for quite awhile, due to not making backups of the firmware. Anyway I ended up just straight upgrading it to the newest version and I've got it working again, and I'm definitely going the IMEI route. Though after everything I did get it to somehow downgrade the radio to 05.13.04.

A friend has picked up an iPhone 3gs currently locked to O2, and wants it unlocked so she can pop her Orange sim in. I've just got a PAYG Orange sim so I can give it a try.

Currently it is on iOs 5.0.1, baseband 05.16.05. It has been wiped and when I pop the new SIM in, I get the "incompatible sim" message so I can't activate. Can I go ahead and use redsn0w to unlock, or should I get an O2 sim firstly to get the phone up and running, and then try the unlock?

Surprised the "news" of "DreamJB" hasn't been on here, even in rumor form. Some of you may know there is rumor of a Dec. 22nd JB. For whatever reason, this one seems to have stuck within the community and people are waiting for more information/proof.

Supposedly there will be a video posted on YouTube today before 8pm EST of the JB in full working.

According to the FAQ on the site, it's a WebKit vulnerability that you run on your phone and then execute some software to finish the JB. I don't know about you but that sounds...weird given how jailbreaks work.

Whatever, I'm assuming by 8pm tonight we'll have a yay or nay, but I'm remaining highly skeptical of this. Although, who's to say this isn't another GeoHot or Comex?

Sounds like bullshit but I'm not going to complain if it turns out to be true. I kinda still miss Google Voice integration but the bulk (read: girlfriend and couple coworkers) of the people I used to text recently updated to iPhones so I just mostly iMessage now.

It'll be nice to have again for sure.

It screams fake.

I don't know why I keep seeing info about this. Rumor sites get more and more pathetic.

There are teams of highly-skilled security researches and crackers working away on iOS, with no real progress made.
Meanwhile, some kid whose only achievement in life so far is a high head-shot count on his Xbox 360 is getting thousands of hits on his Twitter page because he says he magically was able to do what all the experts haven't been able to.

I am not in a position to judge the validity of this new claim, but hasn't this sort of thing happened before? New exploits don't always come from the existing pool of experts.

I've seen stuff come from "new" people. Existing people (Dev Team) don't poo poo all over them and proclaim "FAKE", though. So I'm not the only one that doesn't trust the guy.

The "Dream JB" guy put up some new web site, domain, and a twitter page - then refused to give any info, refuses to speak to existing people in the community, then announces a date. Why have a predetermined date?

What "new" person in the past released something like this?

To derail the DreamJB talk, does anyone know if there's a way to manually open/browse the zip file DataDeposit makes when backing up app data? I'm no longer jailbroken but I still have all my old games backed up on dropbox and I'm trying to manually restore some of the old save games via iFunBox. The problem is trying to unzip the backed up data gives me an error.

EDIT: Nevermind, got it to open with 7-Zip

Yeah, this really does scream fake to me. If you read into anything about the security measures in iOS 6, it's extremely unlikely that one lone-hacker will pull it off. The notable exceptions to this are comex and geohot being the people who basically do the entire exploit process. However, the past few both of them required some form of help. Even geohot used some of the dev teams work in limera1n, more or less without their permission.

With that said, we may have some genius out there who really did do all of it on their own but it's really REALLY unlikely. Again, I'm HIGHLY skeptical of this. With this community, I wouldn't be surprised if the video he/she posts is a Rick Roll.

Edit: Most of the dev teams haven't said "THIS IS BULLSHIT" yet because there is LITERALLY nothing out. Just some guy saying poo poo. They said basically whatever it is, don't download it until its vetted, which I'm sure they'll do for all of us. There's no way any of us would know if it would or wouldn't kill the phone, install spyware, install a botnet on your computer, etc.

Followed this poo poo live because I have an IP5 and I was excited about this, while I was happy it wasn't a rick roll or some other BS when the YT video finaly processed, the video posted is fishy mostly because the the screen turn off exactly 1 minute after last input (it was supposed to be prepared by the "webkit exploit") then kernel patching and a progress bar, then apple logo and home screen, which is strange because it's not booting to lockscreen as musclenerd pointed out, then dreamjb tweets that it's a bug of his software when no passcode is entered.

Anyway I'm pretty sure this one is bullshit

I got a 4S that luckily didn't have iOS6 on it. I jailbroke it successfully, but do I have to pay for TetheMe again?

I don't really care as it's $5 and helps out the devs, but that is also sort of lovely if I would have spent way more than $5 on other jailbroken apps.

What IS awesome though is that after installing all my old jailbreak apps it remembered how the icons were set up on my old phone.

"Find My Phone" (the app) is simply used to find OTHER iOS devices using your phone.

If a thief stole your phone and wanted to disable Find My Phone tracking they'd just have to shut the phone off or simply disable Find My Phone from your iCloud settings tab.

There might be a jailbreak that makes turning it off require a password, I have no idea though.

They should make that app usable on a computer. Annoying trying to use someone else's iOS device.
