The new crew have been in the opening since episode 1. The tank they drive is a Type 3 which is weird because that means the Tiger Porche they found still doesn't have a crew.

I would be expecting Miho and crew to upgrade to the tiger, with one of the others taking over the Panzer IV.

Actually, those mechanics might be next crew. There's four of them (enough for a crew) and only 2 of them have appeared outside of the opening which means the other 2 will probably show up sometime in the last few episodes. They even have an animal symbol, the lion team.

Also, I really don't think they're going to switch tanks. The tanks have basically been each crews "partners" with the Panzer IV being the mascot of the series. Not to mention that a lot of the merchandising is tied with the tanks and their crews.

I had just been looking at the OP this episode and wondering "When are these weird chicks going to show their faces?". They APPEAR to my world-of-tanks-vision to be driving a Renault FT. A Renault FT is in the same order of magnitude of badness as a Type 89 though, so I don't know how it could even be useful, considering that as it is the Type 89 is relegated to flag duty due to its inability to hurt enemy tanks.

EDIT: On further thought, it's way out for an FT, having the wrong track layout and the turret is too large even for chibi vision. I was thinking the BDR G1B, but then I realised that was never actually produced, only existing due to WoT. Also, wrong track layout. I'm increasingly thinking that it is a D1 chassis with an FT turret, which apparently happened.

This changes relatively little of what I was just saying about it being incredibly lovely, except that now it's slightly slower and slightly better armoured.

The most fun non-JoJo anime this season with another strong episode. And this time it lives up to its Shounen Sports billing with strong SHOUNEN HEART!! moments especially in the second half.

It warms my WOT-blackened heart to see light tanks to what light tanks do best: be annoyingly hard to kill. Including the STUGIII to the anime was also a stroke of genius despite it not technically being a tank. Having a low-profile ambush specialist like that really expands the tactical possibilities.

It's always the little things that make decent series good and good series great. Small things like 38(t) having its white flag pop up out of its underside when flipped over, the two killshots that the 38(t) manages to land on the t34's are both on their turret rings, one of the weakest-armored places that even the 38(t)'s weak gun can penetrate, the sudden improvement in the 38(t)'s k/d ratio being the result of switching gunners, cementing the student council Hitler's character as a lazy underachiever and monocle girl as someone who literally couldn't hit the broadside of a Churchill pointblank, the two killshots on the KV-2 are on its turret ring and lower glacis plate, very smart aiming by the gunners, the p4 and flag t34 passing by the dead KV a second time, showing how they're not just figuratively driving in circles on a wild goose chase, you first wonder how the STUGIII managed to get under so much snow so quickly, then you remember that the last time you saw it was when it was doing some weird backwards skidding maneuver, and you realize the STUGIII literally slid under a mound of snow to hide itself. STUGIII: still a BOSS.

Which reminds me, I like that song [e: Advance in the snow] too they were singing.

Well, that episode finally renewed faith in this series. Not that stalling for 3/4 of the episode with unnecessary teeth-gritting moe wasn't a complete waste of time, but finally watching someone drive and fire a tank well was quite glorious. Never knew the 38t had it in it, but perfectly possible with the shots it made. Flank, dodge, weak points/side armor/rear armor, and effective use of terrain. That committee member, besides Ooari and the stug crew, must be the only non-pubbie of their entire team. At least the others know how to follow orders. M3 Lee, still a shitbucket.

So, yeah, shamefully watch this WoT goon bait of a show. For all the hand-wringing moe drama you have to put up with, they better roll out the Tiger P really soon. After realizing that silhouette wasn't a typical Tiger H, it's been the only thing I look forward to in this show anymore. It's probably my favorite tier 7 heavy in WoT, even more than the technically superior T29. Fuckoff hull armor, and the knowledge of how to use it right, will always be more useful than hull-down only supremacy.

BTW, thanks for pointing out what the end-of-episode chibi tank thing was. Even though the Type 3 is another paper-armored hearse, at least it gets a 75. I'd replace the Type 89, but it seems tank crews spring up everywhere in this show. Don't hold out much hope it'll matter, I don't expect another season. At least it provides tons of content with which to troll the WoT forums.

Yes, there is always the danger that for people who consider (girls doing stuff) == moe then the parts other than tanks will seem necessarily tortuous. This is true for most other sports anime as well; think of any baseball/soccer/shougi/go anime and consider how much time they spent on non-competition activities like following families, motivations, relationships (not necessarily romantic), or character interactions.

For my part, I have a hard time finding much of the show moe at all. The art designs are not stylized like wideface Hidamari or puffy cheeks K-on. Most everything they do builds character/plot/setting. I feel like they could just gender-flip the entire cast and not much would be different but for the absurdity of girls driving tanks (which is not insignificant considering absurdity is one of the draws of the show), and maybe manlier voices for the shouty parts during matches (which goes back to the absurdity bit). But that could just be me immunized from consuming so much Japan.

Most of the episode was one giant Stalingrad analogy though, and I think did a good job in building tension.

And I mean c'mon, the anglerfish dance call back and that Russian Squat Dance, Sumire showing off yet another Russian folk song, and Guderian and the scouting scenes were all pretty fun.

I dunno, its starting to seem as if like any grin worthy scene that's fun qualifies as moe so long as there's a girl in it which may not really be an instructive definition.

I think that they drive tanks invalidates any negativity from whatever moe it may have. :mil101:

Didn't realize that analogy until you pointed it out. Really jarring with the roles reversed like that.

But, lets be honest, that loving dance is so goddamn moe there is absolutely no point to it other than 'atypical quirky organized dance routine by Japanese high-school girls'. Also, we're 9 episodes in, and for a show about girls in goddamn panzers, we've had 3 real battles and one painfully bad learn2drive '
battle'. Sure, those battles mostly cover more than one episode, but only because they start the battles near the end of an episode and end them the following episode. The practice battle against the Brits was done well, it started with a battle and ended with it. Clear learning curve hitting them in the face, but it was drat fun seeing urban tank combat. One huge miss was their fight against Anzio, which happened entirely off-screen. It was 99% moe drama with a quick 'oh hey, our completely poo poo team of horrible tanks won because Anzio was nothing but a pile of garbage Italian tankettes and a wannabe T-34'.

If the characters weren't so generic outside of the tank battles, I'd have no real complaints, but they are that boring and predictable. Late to school, everyone they meet on the way waves to them, forgettable talking topics as they all meetup outside school before class, massive emphasis on clubs, teachers either faceless drones or uncomfortably too friendly and involved in the affairs of the students. The worst part is the main character is the biggest moe bait of the entire series, while playing an actually competent commander. Also, the student council president, the small spunky one with a characteristic fang tooth :ughh:, can actually drive circles around T-34-85s and take 'em out like a pro in a 38t tin can. The stronger the moe, the better at tanking they are.

You know who should be taking more initiative and standing out? The stug crew. They're probably the least moe, least generic girls of the bunch, yet all they get are 'dur hur rommel fanz' type lines and play second-fiddle to the PzIV the entire time.

If, big if, they decide to make another season, it won't feel nearly so frustrating. However, in all likelihood, this is all we're going to get. And for such an effective use of tanks in Anime, despite how insipid 'moe' is, I expected more. I'll be delightfully surprised if we ever get more than this.

Well good and bad news then. Both episodes 11 and 12 aren't going to air till march and the director is hinting at more of the show after 12.

Girls & Panzer Delays Episode #11 Tentatively Until March posted:

The official Twitter account and website for the Girls und Panzer television anime confirmed on Saturday that the episode on December 24 has been delayed. Instead of episode 11, a special reintroduction episode "10.5" ("Shōkai Shimasu 2!") will air. Episode 10.5 will also be included in volume 5 of the Girls und Panzer Blu-ray and DVD release.

As a result of this delay, another episode will be delayed beyond the scheduled run of the anime this year. The staff tentatively plans to air the remaining episodes on participating channels in March as a television special. The 12th and final episode was already pushed back due to the delayed airing of episode 6.

Director Tsutomu Mizushima personally apologized for the delays, and noted that episode 10, like the previous episodes, will have improvements and animation corrections in the Blu-ray/DVD releases. He added that staff will ensure the utmost quality in episodes 11 and 12. He concluded by saying that he personally thinks that the end of episode 12 is not the end of the whole story.
