It wasnt that bad, after you left I got to help put out the fire!

The new Forester seems more like an SUV and they make my old one look small. The old ones are definitely more of a wagon than a SUV.

Got some new snows on mine the other day then took it into the woods.

My dad has a new forester (and I used to drive his old one, literally the exact same one as the post above) and it is most definitely an SUV now. Super high with terribly visibility. Old one was much easier to drive.

Yea, its a great car. Handles pretty well for an old man mobile and the visibility is top notch.

I'd say that's more like a station wagon than a SUV. I could certainly be tempted to buy one, but not as a daily drive. Seems like a perfect thing to haul lovely friends, rifles and shotguns to your hunting turf.

Yeah, I think it counts as a station wagon.

Autralians too - Falcons and Commodores could be optioned with extra seats (before the Falcon wagons was killed, and the Commodore downsized)

Also I reckon the international Odyssey is more of a wagon than the Accord (which now has a laughably small load area)

This is the ultimate wagon tragedy. I was offered my stepmom's old (2004) forester in 2008 but turned it down because it was an auto and I thought "I'll just wait for a few years when I can afford a newer, manual one."

That car is probably never going to materialize :(. It amazes me to see Subaru move so far away from what used to be their bread and butter (AWD station wagons).

My '04 V70 2.5T. Love the car, love the seats, though some maintenance tasks are annoying. Drove to Tulsa to get a Volvo wagon and came back in one, but not the one I was looking for. I found this one while test-driving the car I went there to see.

I sometimes see spoilers like this on wagons. I like the look of it, but is there any more to it than that? If it helps with fuel economy I'm interested.

In some cases, I believe these spoilers help to change he airflow over the rear and might aid in keeping the rear glass cleaner.

There's a lot of turbulence behind most hatches that will result in the rear end getting really filthy.

I just bought a spoiler for my 855T today, since the wagon I was pulling the wheels off had one and I've been wanting one for mine. I was less enthused when I got it home and discovered that the spoiler only fits on tail-gates that came from the factory with them :saddowns:. Soo...anybody need a spoiler?

This is especially true in light rain or a snow storm as well. If the snow is wet enough, it'll end up coating the entire backside of your wagon. I was considering getting a spoiler for my 850, but I'd need to get the platinum paint right, which I've heard is difficult.

I don't quite recall this being an issue when my dad had his V70, but my hatchback and 'sportwagen' are a bit miserable to drive if the road's wet, since the rear glass constantly gets covered.

Incidentally, I think I need a new rear wiper blade. Or I guess figure out how to actually use my wing mirror's defrosters and just use those to see behind/around me.

After some googling it turns out I was wrong, you can mount the spoiler to non-spoilered cars, it's just a bit tricky. I haven't actually gotten the spoiler and the car in the same place yet since my Volvo is currently sitting on the side of the road with both passenger side wheels broken...don't let friends that tend to hug the shoulder borrow your car! :suicide:

I'd enjoy the Holden but I think in terms of the most likely thing I'd buy to replace my daily driver, probably that Mazda6 wagon. If that had existed here last May when I got a car, I'd have probably bought it.

My newly acquired '99 Legacy 30th Anniversary 5-speed wagon next to my girlfriend's '98 Outback Wagon. As you can see we like our Subarus, and being skiers in the Pacific Northwest it was kind of inevitable. I was loving the AWD in the little bit of snow we had here in WA the other day!

I was missing owning a wagon, I've been in a Subaru sedan for the past 2 years. It was time to fix that mistake. My new wagon is very similar to my last wagon from 2 years ago, just newer and nicer. My old '96 Legacy Brighton on coilovers with dark tint:

That generation of Outback is almost as common as Volvo 240s where I live (I'd be willing to bet my town has the highest concentration outside of Sweden, seriously) and it's easy to forget that they can actually look really good in addition to being practical as hell. I don't know if it's the wheels, it being a solid color, or just having a different front bumper from what I'm used to seeing, but that is a classy wagon, sir.

The car in the back is a Legacy Outback, the car in the foreground is 'just' a Legacy. All Outbacks for a while were two toned - it's part of the Outback package, as are the foglights (and therefore the different bumper).

I agree that the solid colour cars look way better for some reason, a little less like a kids' car. Even though I picked up an '02 Impreza wagon earlier this year, drat if I didn't just spend the last 15 minutes on Craigslist looking at Legacies of that era. I might have a problem :(.

Nice score, Alphius!

Edit: Pic of my wagon from earlier this summer when I got a flat tire on my motorcycle, and had to borrow a trailer from a friend for a rescue mission:

I have a wagon fetish. To give a brief history, I owned a volvo v70 first, which I loved. It ended up having way more electrical problems than I was ready for and sold it for a small loss. My next car was an 85 mercedes 300TD wagon. It was a bucket of rust and hate but had moments of fun and would have been awesome if it wasnt falling apart. My next wagon came in the form of a 91 buick roadmaster estate. I still have the car, because it has treated me extremely well for 3 years. I change the oil every 10,xxx miles and thats it. GM build quality is very apparent, but it still runs, blows cold air and hot heat.

Well, as of late, I figured I had paid my dues of driving a piece of poo poo with the buick and started to save. Last week I made a move on the car of my dreams. A 2001 Saab 9-5 5spd wagon. The car is beautiful, fun as all hell, and CLEAN. I quit smoking the day I got it soley due to the fact that I never wanted to get it dirty. Last night, however, shook me up. I was driving to a friends house to show off the car. It was rainy and wet out so I was driving extremely carefully. Being as this is my first manual, I am still not 100% perfect, but close enough.
Anyway, not two miles away from home, I am watching a big blue diesel truck roll up to a stop sign I was about to pass. We all have the moment where we envision the car/truck running the stop sign right into the road, but it rarely, if never happens. Well, not this time. The truck runs straight through the stop sign into my lane. I quickly tap the brakes to turn off my cruise control and merge into the left lane. The truck decides to merge all the way over too. I even more quickly switch over to the right to try and avoid rear-ending him. He brakes and merges right back infront of me, causing me to brake, slide into his bumper that sends me sliding into the guard rail. I watch in pain and rage as he slows down, then speeds off. I stalled out and couldnt get it started again right way to follow him.

Anyway, here is the car on Christmas day, in all her beauty. Its mostly the right quarter panel that got damaged, but it feels like someone stole my girlfriends virginity. I am heart broken.

Any other saab wagon owners in here?

God damn it, you've got to be kind.
Pretty much bone-stock 2003 1.8t with 46,500 miles on it. The last Jetta body style I liked. It doesn't get much use since I've been walking to work the last couple of years and it looks close to new inside and out.

Square wagons are the best wagons.

I started with an '86 Integra LS and that got me hooked on the utility of hatches. I replaced it with an AWD '93 Impreza L which was slow but got the job done until it hit 60,000 and immediately started falling to poo poo. The VW was a nice upgrade apart from its lovely mileage.
