If anyone liked that 2:54 video I posted the album is well worth getting, the album kinda conveys that sound throughout. I'm really liking DIIV at the minute and yes it's because pitchfork gave them a good review, well worth checking out I would describe the album as Real Estate meets Deerhunter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciKpw3ZLjFc

If you haven't checked them out yet, Sleep Party People are great shoegaze/dream pop. I've seen them live, and they sounded much better than they do on record, which is an achievement. It's very pensive music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFUzvbkEvRk - I'm Not Human At All (Sleep Party People) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUYgatAyyJo - Chin (We Were Drifting On A Sad Song) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibfztHrOPK8 - The City Light Died (We Were Drifting On A Sad Song) I once read a review of their latest album, We Were Drifting On A Sad Song, that said it was music you listen to when you want to go to bed, but you want to finish your tea first. Pretty accurate, but the song Chin does get me up in the mornings. Their self-titled debut album is really great too, but more somber.

Okay, so I thought I got this song from this thread ages ago, but my searches have shown it was never posted here. Whatever, maybe I'm just blind. I`ve been trying to find a place to download this song for ages. I wish I could find it! It's not like I'm trying to rip it off for free, I really haven't found it anywhere. But I`ve been trying to find it for over a year and have had no luck. It`s really very good! Maybe someone could point me in the right direction? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsrSHNiOeF0 It's Urban Twilight by Oeil. I've found other songs by them, but I really, really want this one! Goons are pretty resourceful. I'm hoping someone here has a link somewhere.

Having listened to it I can agree, I love this ethereal type of stuff. It's like a very minimal Beach House project. Is anybody here familiar with Sleep∞Over? It's more electronic in its production but I think it still has that same dynamic most dream pop has. http://youtu.be/HKbh3-JWbdQ

http://halfstring.bandcamp.com/ Got into this band recently and they've quickly become one of my favourites. Eclipse * Oval * Hue is a great place to start. "Oval", "Sun Less Sea" and "Arc-Fold" are the standout tracks IMHO. Discovered them via Captured Tracks' 'Shoegaze Archives' project, which has plenty of other good stuff (really enjoy the Should release in particular, and the Medicine reissues are excellent too).

Alcest is coming near me in a few weeks, but he's only supporting some metal band I'm not interested in (Katatonia). I also have noone to go with, so I'd pretty much just go for Alcest and then head home. Has anyone seen him live, is it worth it? 75 bucks worth?

I saw Alcest open up for Enslaved and while they were cool it would not be worth paying $75 for (imo). I think Ghost was supposed to be on the bill too but could not make it.

A documentary about shoegazing/dream pop called Beautiful Noise has been in production for a looong time, but it finally has a trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3K8Nru6fnc It seems interesting since it is mainly interviews and the whole genre is still a bit obscure. Despite being a fan of their last five albums for years, I somehow managed to not know until today that the Raveonettes had three entire records prior to LustLustLust and also that they're incredible. I have a really bad habit of just listening to bands and never bothering to find out who or what they are.

My favourite Airiel song is Sharron Apple https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teFjDLAKBLY. I first heard it on this radio show called post-punk for post-punks. My Bloody Valentine put up a facebook status a few minutes ago saying they finished mastering the new album on the 21st. It's actually happening, we're getting a new MBV album Vienna Circlejerk posted:I've been going through my library and listening to things I haven't listened to in years, and ran across Love Spirals Downwards. They were kind of a darkwave-ish dream pop group in the 90s that I found on a Projekt Records sampler CD back in the day and promptly fell in love with. Hope you don't mind me sharing a bit of my old man nostalgia in this thread. Love Spirals Downwards is so awesome. They're in the my library and I haven't listened to them in so long as well, until now. I think I'm the only person who probably connects them with Jack Off Jill. I mean they're entirely different musically, but I got into both at the same time and they remind me of a certain time period.

Hope this fits in here, because these guys are pretty much genreless. This is Pram and they're very dear to me. They were part of the initial movement that coined the term "post-rock" along with Stereolab, Bark Psychosis, and Laika but come nowhere near the current definition of it. Just started listening to the band Rumskib again. Their self-titled album is a really nice throwback to the 80s dreampop sound, but with an electronic spin. I've heard Jonas Munk (aka Manual) produced the album too, which is pretty cool! I picked up the CD a few years ago and loved it ever since. A bunch of people called them dream pop so I basically went "eh, whatever," and posted it here. That's a neat recommendation. It's tough to find stuff that remotely resembles them.

Is anyone else into that whole "movement"? Not much of a movement since they were all just bands doing daring things so none of them sound alike at all. I'm a die-hard fan of "first wave" UK post-rock. Love Bark Psychosis (Hex is the best album of the 90s), Disco Inferno, Moonshake, Main, Seefeel, Insides and, yes, Pram. There are elements of shoegaze/dream pop in some of the stuff, but I prefer the term post-rock. Long Fin Killie, Prolapse and Flying Saucer Attack are some bands from the UKPR "scene" that overlap quite easily with the shoegaze genre. Excellent stuff all around.

I'm so happy there are people who like early post-rock. It's such a different animal from what usually gets called post-rock I'm always scared to bring it up. Do you think it's got enough fuel for its own thread? I'd be really interested to see what other bands people pull out that sound like that stuff.

Original post-rock is, as you say, entirely different from later stuff. Well, actually, I guess Talk Talk's post-rock albums actually do have much in common with Mogwai et al, but stuff like Disco Inferno doesn't at all, so it's worth a thread. Especially since that style never actually went away - Tarentel, for example, started out sounding like GY!BE but then ended up, on We Move Through Weather and the EPs, sounding almost industrial and more in the DI vein.
