Who will win the greatest battle of them all?

So DJ Shadow got kicked off the decks for playing bass music in Miami last week, but all is right in the world :patriot:

This matters because he was playing a massive future bass tune when he got kicked off the decks for being "too futuristic"

I had to laugh when I heard about this as like the last time DJ Shadow played here or whenever, half the people in the audience wanted to boot him off the stage.

It's nice to hear they'll learn from their mistake. Of course they could've learned from their last mistake when they booked Dennis loving Ferrer and booted him off. Honestly there should be like a club version of a driving test. Fail it 10 times and you're stuck driving an automatic for life. Which I guess in the club world would be like having a closing time of 11pm and no booze. It'd be nothing but unders nights for all eternity. I can hear club owners tying a noose right now at the thought of it. Almost makes me wish their really was a club license like that now.

To be honest just like I said last time, I still think it's loving baffling kicking someone off the decks like that. Sure if it's your Friday night chart DJ who loving back announces every track, takes requests and is only there as background noise while people go on the pull, if they're going nuts gently caress 'em right off fair enough, but someone you've booked in? Either be one of those clubs or be a hiring venue I say. At least then you won't get such a split in your audience.

See folks this is why I always say just do it your loving self. Book a pub's function hall, a dead night at some bar, hell break into an old warehouse, bring in a proper big soundsystem, hire someone cool to DJ and have a proper do. gently caress all this table service pish! Cans of lukewarm Red Stripe for a quid all round I say! What more do you need really?

Also wow does the new Soundcloud layout suck. I mean I know I've said that about most new website layouts since 2007, but I'm really not digging it.

Well it's good to see someone has been taking my suggestion and is listening to Deja Vu. It's a nice change from Rinse which everybody nowadays will be locked into. Though I have to admit neither quite has that wee extra spark they used to. I miss that proper bad boy pirate image. Having a proper license was obviously a massive loving deal for Rinse, but legal and online only in the case of Deja... I kinda want a proper rig on a tower block loving coppers banging down the door thing again.

Well true I guess. But you do get some stuff like old Soul/Raregroove classic shows thrown in there, and they do good on the Reggae/Bashment side of things. They also do pretty good on garage too, though I have to say I was really disappointed with the retro Nice 'N' Ripe mix. Too many A/B sides used to fill the thing which kinda bugs me. Especially since some of the mixes were like A-Side>Another plate>first one back on/switch to the B-Side, something that kinda bugs me. You'd think if you were doing a label special (especially with NnR which had a billion sub-labels) you'd have a couple crates of stuff. So much potential wasted.

This sounds awesome, gotta remember to download when they post it. P-Money's going in right now at the boxing day rave, the place sounds live-o. Why does Rhythm & Gash never get old? And what's this NERD - Lapdance dub? It was in the Butterz show last week too.

May have been posted already but Boy Better Know at Red Bull Culture Clash is a dope set too. Frisco over some tropical Julio Bashmore poo poo at 5:00 is crazy, and Gangnam/Too Many Man at 7:50 is ridiculous.

I'm not his biggest fan, but he did a lot for the grime scene in the early days, plus he brings a lot of new hip-hop to the UK. If you can get past his jarring radio persona he's not that bad really.

Oi! I'll let a lotta things slide but this scandalous insult against Westwood, king DJ of the radio world I won't stand for!

Westwood is loving awesome and I won't hear another word said against him. Sure he's an OTT son of a loving like, Anglican vicar but man, I give him props 'cause you can just tell he loves the music. Really helped push rap way back in the day (like proper back in the day) and really helped with Grime too. Plus by all accounts he's supposed to be pretty brand new in real life too.

Plus he really made Pimp My Ride over here so much better than with Xzibit. It'd be a big loving laughing stock if you tried to get a bigshot American rapper talking about tarting up a loving old 1.6ltr Capri or Fiat Uno, Westwood just fit the UK vibe perfectly.

It is a great tune, just a shame it was download only. But then I always say that. And since this is me talking, I'll more than happily blame that as one of the reasons you don't hear it too much. Well actually it probably didn't help that Get Along Gang was the A-side (or is that the 0 or 1 side for a digital?) which was a great track too. Similar kinda sound to it too.

Also I think I posted about it over in phiz, but I've not stopped playing the new Ashley Beedle EP on Girls since it came out a few weeks ago. Run The Track might even be my favourite tune of the year. Proper UK vibes. Between singles like this and getting all nostalgia'd up at that Kismet 4hr garage special on Rinse a few days ago, it's really reminded me of what I love more than anything else, and it's really sort out some thoughts I'd slowly been having as 2012 wore on. In 2013 let's say gently caress Berlin, bomb the Berghain and big up Brixton instead! Here's hoping we get more grimey, more attitude, more funky, more flexy and more sexy in this new year!

On the subject of production, this new Skrillex tune is making the rounds since it is a departure from his usual 5 minutes of nails on a chalkboard/blender noise.

My take on it: I may as well listen to Burial or Distance if I want to hear this kind of thing, especially since their tracks aren't so disconnected. Just because he's trying something different doesn't automatically equate to it being good.

I agree with you. It'll be interesting to see what else he comes up with in this vein, especially since he's a pretty talented producer but this kind of falls flat. I don't like the vocal at all and it sounds SO much like at an attempt to sound like Burial.
