I searched the forums and barely saw mention of my favorite timekeeping program, ManicTime. The reason it's killer is it's automatic. As long as it's running it keeps track of which programs you're using, for how long, and what documents you're looking at. If you get distracted easily you'll see that clearly on the timeline it creates. For jobs where you're getting paid for your output like article writing or transcription keeping track of how long you spend at the computer versus time actually spent working versus pay is something you ought to do. The only important feature the free version doesn't have is the stopwatch. You can manually enter your own tags with start/end/duration if you like, though. Kind of a bummer for Lionbridge type jobs though.

I haven't used RescueTime but I'll try it out alongside Manic for a while. They seem to have the same purpose, I just really like the way Manic graphs the day. edit: Haha, RescueTime includes an option to automatically not record your porn browsing time. How thoughtful. I wish textbroker would go ahead and review my first 5 entries. It's been days and they haven't even done one yet. The client reviews I've got have been really good though, so I think I could make some decent cash on this site. Once they actually let me write.

When they do it, they'll do all five of them at once, because the editors go through and rate a ton at a time. Having written for them for a year now, I tend to get reviews of my stuff once a month, sometimes longer -- the most recent one was two months and a week since my last one, and rated something like 90 articles. They should do yours soon though, I know it didn't take them a month to give me my initial rating.

I need someone to write SEO copy for a website I have. about 800-1k words per article, I'll give you the basic guidelines for what I want but you can pretty much just BS your way through it as long as you follow how often I want the keyword used, etc. Send me a pm if you're interested.

Anyone notice that the new Leapforce guidelines excludes Meaningless Query? There's only two unratable categories now, "Didn't Load" and "Foreign Language" according to the new guidelines. I found some old guidelines: http://antoniovelo.com/wp-content/googlespam.pdf Meaningless query is included in those while excluded from 3.29... I'm taking the exam and old content is showing up in the exam that is not explained in the new guidelines. Is the exam compatible to the older guidelines? Also, this is in my exam: (B) Useful pages are "as good as it gets". The "as good as it gets" is not mentioned in the new guidelines but is in the old. Also, some logic contradicts newer guidelines. Is "meaningless query" still a thing? It isn't according to the new guidelines....how do I answer those questions on my exam? The provided me with insufficient information.

Has anyone managed to book work through a site called oDesk, or even Elance? I signed up to both, but they seem flooded, and the rate of pay most people expect to get away with is pitiful, but some money would be better than no money.

Yeah, this thread is more for off-site earning opportunities, SA-Mart is the best place for Goon-on-Goon deals. They have systems in place to deal with such things. Of course, if you're a Goon and post assignments on Textbroker or oDesk or Elance or whereever, you have the third-party site regulating the transaction, and could probably post it here without issue. In Textbroker news, I wrote my 500th article the other day, and promptly claimed a massive project that's worth about 2/3rds what I make in a typical month. Hopefully they'll like what I produce and I can slack off for part of January.

Well, Textbroker's copy editing seems to be done by their in-house team. Demand Studios had copy editing work, but as far as I know it never paid well to begin with and who knows if they still hire for it. You might be able to pick up such jobs on one of the freelance boards (oDesk, Elance) but I have no idea how available it is, if at all. That said, if you do find anywhere that hires copy editors and has a decent pay rate and work availability, by all means let us know. Most people here seem to be keen on the writing end of things, so that's what gets talked about. That, transcription and Leapforce work.

My wife found a good job on Elance(actually they found her but still.) It only pays about $4 an hour +bonuses , but it's easy and she got me in for some extra money on weekends too. So yes they do exist.

I've done some work off and on on oDesk and eLance. Basically, you'll need to work those crap rates a few times to get a good rating, then you can dig for people who want to pay for actual work rather than "I want a knockoff of Amazon.com and will pay $1/hour up to $30."

Read through the OP and decided to apply to all three search places: leapforce, lionbridge, and butler hill. I just head back from lionbridge and there's an nda. This is probabaly an "of course" but you can't work with leapforce while doing work for them. However there's nothing about butler hill (whom I still need to hear back from). I haven't read through the whole thread but I would be curious if anyone who still reads this has anything to say about the jobs or their experience? I'm technically able in every way possible but have been bitten by the layoff bug. I do digital consulting on the side so this would be a nice little padding of work to do while watching the baby sleep.

You do get most major holidays off, and the service is occasionally down, but in my months working there I have yet to experience a lack of tasks.

After reading all of it my largest concern is do you feel the time invested is an issue? There seems to be something about lots of training or guidelines that are changed frequently. Are we talking training that tells me how to "turn on a pc" first or are we talking about deep technical stuff? I'm digitally literate so most training doesn't phase me. AndI'm totally fine with a 4 hour day m-f, it's just that I don't want to enter into work where I'm dumping hours upon hours of "training" . How are the hours tracked? Are the tasks really vague too? (edit) Also about glassdoor. Some people want to turn this into a career and are ticked about 40 hours of work as well as being mad management doesn't talk to you. I literally could care less. I freelance anyways so I'm just wanting some mindless hours while I'm sipping my coffee in the morning. Plus once a site is launched I'm always hustling for work so this would provide a nice basic supply of hours. Am I wrong in thinking this is a good idea to explore? I dont mind the work most of the time, but some of the tasks can be boring. It helps to have something on TV to watch while working or something to read.

Fairly sure I started at $13.50 doing search engine work, which ends up being just under $300/week before taxes. Unfortunately, they pay out once a month, so that is a blessing or a curse, depending on your situation.
